OT: MBB Is Cray.

#1 IU escapes on poor clock mgt. and FT shooting by #4 MSU at the end.

#2 Miami wins on a last second Derp rom UVA.

#4 MSU: see above.

#5 UF loses to unranked Mizzou after blowing (2) 10+ pt. leads.

The #1 seeds are there for the taking; March will truly be Madness.

EDIT: I see there are (2) similar threads on the topic. Mods feel free to edit or merge.

Who even cares if we get a 1 seed at this point.  The top 10 at least are all pretty even and anyone can be beaten on a neutral court, moreso this year than ever.  A 2 or even a 3 seed is more than sufficient.  It's all about matchups, which pretty much comes down to luck.

"Michigan Defense" is dominating everything, in every aspect of life. That's a rough definition.

Not only can anyone be beaten on a neutral court, but I can't wait to get back to some of the teams that conferences besides the B1G think are good.

Helps Michigan get itself back in a good position to snag a #1 seed. May still have to beat both IU and MSU for that, as the rest of our remaining schedule isn't very strong, but its doable.

You look at the B1G, and you see all the top teams with 3 or 4 conference losses. You say, I can't rank these guys higher, even though the teams they lost to are also top teams with 3 or 4 conference losses. The conference sniping is a drain on the rankings.

HOWEVA, I think if we can win out the remainder of the regular season, and Indana does the same save the finale against us, the Big will end up with two 1's (M and IU), a 2 (MSU), a 5 (OSU), a 6 (Wisky), and three mixed between 7 and 10 with Illinois, Minny and Iowa.

I see no problems with 8 for the B1G this year.  It's such a killer that I figure 7-9, no more than two OOC losses and a quality win or two will do it.

Add in that there seems to be a pretty significant talent drop off after the top 12 and there's a definite advantage in being a top seed this year, and avoiding the 2-3 game (if seeds hold) in the sweet 16. Just going on Lunardi's latest, you're looking at playing 3-seeds Louisville, Arizona, Kansas or New Mexico in the Sweet 16 if you're a 2 seed, versus Okie State, K State, Marquette or G'town if you're a 1.

Jesus, during football season isn't it terrible when SEC homers emphatically vow that X top team in a lesser conference wouldn't finish in the top half of the SEC and use it as evidence that they shouldn't get a BCS bid?

Well, now that Gonzaga, who lost to a middling Illinois team at home will quite possibly get a higher seed than us, I kind of know how they feel.

LSU 2011: Oregon @ Jerrydome, @ West Virginia

Alabama's played in other kickoff games against IIRC Clemson and Va Tech, and played a home and home against Penn State.

Florida annually against FSU; South Carolina annually against Clemson (not sure if these count).

Georgia played Boise St. (and lost)

Arkansas played recent series with USC and Texas A&M (before they joined the SEC)

Even Auburn, who's perenially been one of the culprits, had recent series against Clemson and USC.

I think the real criticism is that they mostly play OOC games against the ACC, which has perenially underachieved and which means they rarely travel outside the South.

EDIT: And if you think about it, the Big Ten is just as bad if not worse. We usually play one tough OOC game against ND and three variations on tomato can depending on how you feel about UConn. OSU plays one. PSU sometimes plays one tough OOC game, often none. Wisconsin never plays anyone OOC. Nebraska's been playing a mid-tier Pac 12 team. Looking forward, it's pretty unquestionable that the most aggressive OOC scheduler in the league is ... MSU. Annual series against ND that continues into the future and scheduled series against Oregon, Boise, and Alabama.

You have to remember though - the #16 seeds are bad teams that happened to win their conference tournament.  Most of them wouldn't have been good enough to get an NIT bid.    Any halfway decent tournament team would be a big favorite against a #16 seed.

Im sorry Miami is not impressive it all, I don't care if they only have 3 loses. They are not that good of a team. It's in the eye test, they lost to Florida Gulf Coast, so I'm pretty sure theres a good chance they could lose to a 16 seed.
