That's because he was bigger. Marquez was moving up three weight classes to take the fight at welterweight. They agreed to fight at 144 lbs. (welterweight is 147). Again, that's still a big stretch for Marquez, who's only ever fought at lightweight at the heaviest. Marquez came in at 142, Floyd came in at 146 and had to pay $300k for each pound over 144 (or $600k). In boxing, those extra pounds will usually tell at that weight class. In other words, it's kind of bullshit, and was always going to be. That said the guy's still a super slick fighter who did well in the fight. Should have knocked him out, but whatever.

Vintage Floyd. Faster than you, Better than you, Smarter than you. If he had a knockout punch, he'd be nearly unstoppable. As it is he's close already. I'd love to see him fight Pacquiao next. I'd buy that PPV, no question.

Floyd did what he needed to do. I guess he had a long layoff, but I was kind of disappointed. The weight seemed way too much for JMM, who couldn't do anything. Pacquiao-Cotto will be a much more entertaining fight. And I'd love to see Manny be able to fight Floyd. He's one of the few who can match the speed.

I love how everyone is giving the Pacquiao-Cotto fight to Pacman already. I know most people didnt know who Pacman was until the last year or so and dont realize that he has 4 losses already so no he's not superman. I just think Cotto has a better chance of winning than most people think. Pacman doesnt have the power to KO Cotto, I think everyone knows that. And Cotto is no Hatton. Cotto has shown he has incredible heart, he has boxing techniques, he will go to the body, has KO punching power, and while his speed isnt as quick as Manny's he does have decent enough speed. You guys see Mosley jumping to the forefront trying to fight Mayweather but the reality is, Mosley already lost to Cotto. So yea I'm a big Cotto fan but the people who think Mayweather-Pacquiao is a given need to hold up cuz Pacman has a big bump ahead of him in the name of Miguel Cotto.

I've spent something close to a month in Puerto Rico every year since I was born (until now that I have a job and such.. damn you college, last forever). I love Cotto and am likely to be biased toward him, and I think he's got a great shot in this fight. That said, saying Manny Pacquiao doesn't have the power to knock him out is just plain silly. Cotto doesn't have the greatest jaw in the world (see the Margarito fight... yeah I know maybe weighted gloves) and Pacquiao hits very hard (maybe not for that weight but in general, still hard enough to hurt). I know Cotto is better than Hatton but Pacquiao was seriously hurting Hatton with his punches and I see no reason for it to be any different vs. Cotto. At least one of Pacman's losses was a fight he literally gave away because he was moving weights anyway. Since he's been with Roach the guy's been unreal. We'll see how long he can remain as fast as he is. For Cotton to win he's going to need to slow Pacquiao down by hurting him a bit early. As the fight goes on, Cotto has the edge.

You know I'm not giving it to Manny, but I just really want to see that fight (Mayweather) anyway. I don't see Manny's and Cotto's power difference being significant. He may not be able to knock him out like Hatton, but he definitely can hurt Cotto especially over time. And he doesn't get tired. Either way I don't see the fight going less than 10 rounds.

As for this fight, I have to say that it was kind of boring given it was only one person that felt the need to fight. Marquez is a good fighter by all means but everyone knows that Floyd is too smart to schedule someone tough after a 21 month layoff. As for Marquez, yea he's a good fighter but can we all admit he did it for the paycheck. He's had 4 losses already so whats 1 more to him? He jumps up 2 weight classes, gets his biggest paycheck ever, goes down 2 more weight classes and will contend for a belt down there. Pretty much a no brainer. And Floyd, he still has his speed and his defense. Didnt see any ring rust. As a Mayweather fan (GR stand up!) I'd like to see him keep his hands up more, too often he keeps him down. It hasn't hurt him yet especially in recent fights but I remember a few fights past back in his 130 days when it almost did. I just hope decides to challenge the #1 fighter next whoever it is. Mosley is past washed up and I dont want Mayweather having the Roy Jones Jr syndrome of fighting washed up and B class fighters. Freddie Roach ahs accused Mayweather of ducking Pacquiao.
