OT: Mayweather- Mosley

Submitted by Rico616 on

Who do you have? I'm going with Mayweather via decision.

Mosley is probably the stronger fighter but Mayweather is extrememly fast, technical, and is a smart boxer. He's said to have a pretty strong chin but it hasnt been shown because he's so elusive and defensive. Mayweather will tag and move on his way to a UD.

Maybe after Mayweather win, Pacquiao can agree to a drug test and he can fight Mayweather. I mean if Mosley, an ex steroid user can take a drug test why cant Pacquiao?

Again. Mayweather by decision

Purely for the reason that I want him to be unblemished when the Mexicutioner destroys him.  Pac-Man is the best pound for pound fighter around and he is alllll business.  No showboating or chatter like Floyd loves to do......

I like how you think!  I want Manny to take Floyd's zero away, but it'll be hard for me not to root for Mosley.  Floyd was one of my favorites too, but I think too many "24/7s" have brought out his annoying side (I know it's just an act).I

I'll have to agree with Rico, PBF by decision, but I think he'll get touched up.  And while I think Manny has a legitimate concern, I hope he can compromise a little more on the testing.

Pacquiao has been really good the last two years however people act like he doesnt have 3 losses already and the majority of people think Marquez beat him (who Mayweather destroyed).

I dont think Pacquiao could beat Mayweather. Even though Pacquiao has all this power all of a sudden and somehow, I just dont think he can get past Mayweather speed, defense, and technicality. Mayweather isnt a one trick pony, he has so many things in his favor. And while Mayweather does talk a lot, he takes boxing serious and is as serious as anyone when it comes to training, game planning, and being ready for the fight. He doesnt drink, doesnt smoke, just focus on his body and boxing.

I cant wait.

Are you still bitter from the Cotto loss?  Haha.  Good to see you back anyway.

Sure, he has 3 losses one to Morales-one of the best of his era, one when he was 20 and one at 16.  His signature has always been the extremely powerful straight left.  It's definitely not new or all of a sudden, and no longer his only trick.  Mayweather's D is unbelievable though and may be the difference in this fight, possible one with Manny, and any other in the future.

Which fight, 1 or 2?  1--3 knockdowns in the 1st rd makes a big hill to climb (and one judge did not score that round 10-6).  2--another knockdown gives Manny a cushion.  I was at that fight in person, and before Michael Buffer's announcement, I was pissed that the draw was one of the few things we didn't put money on.

Nah man I'm over it. While Cotto was an excellent fighter until he had to fight Margarito's cement blocks and Pacquiao's steroids I think we were just looking for the next Felix Trinidad. Cotto probably wont be a top 2 or 3 draw in his division unless he has a Mosley like comebck in him. However we still have Juan Ma Lopez and a couple Ricans on tonights undercards.

All we can do is speculate on Mayweather-Pacquiao but for it to even happen, Pacquiao has to agree to drug testing and Mayweather has to get past a very strong Mosley. Dont get it wrong its gonna be a tough fight for Mayweather tonight. However he's in a lose-lose situation because if he manhandles Mosley people will probably blame it on Mosley's age instead of Mayweather's actual skill.

Either way I'm looking to a great fight tonight as I think most of you my fellow fight fans are too!

Mayweather:

1- speed, speed, speed

2- Mayweathers defense  is sick.  This dude hardly ever gets hit.  He's slick, smart, and avoids being punched.   When is the last time you seen Mayweathers face beat up after a fight?  Never.

3- Mayweather is undefeated, and might be the best ever...arguably.  He's so good, that people say that he hasnt fought anyone.  They also say that he only fights great fighters when they are old.  Its not that he hasnt fought anyone, it’s that he makes good fighters look like scrubs.

Mosley:

1- speed, speed, speed.  If mayweathers speed is a 99, then mosleys speed is a 96.

2-Mosley has fought some good fighters in his career.  He's fought the guys that others avoid.  He's fought in superfights.  Remember the mosley vs de la hoya fights.  De La Hoya was no slouch in the late 90's.  In fact, in my opinion, these two guys (De La Hoya and Mosley) were he best in their class in the late 90's.

3- Mosley has speed, and power.  This is a deadly combination.  Yes, Mosley is waaaayyy stronger than Mayweather.  Mayweather might get knocked the hell out tonight. See Debo's work on Friday part one.

In my opinion this fight is gonna come down to Mayweathers defense vs Mosleys power.   They both have speed and they both have experience, so those things cancel each other out.

If I were placing a bet, I'd bet on Mayweather, but I'd be very nervous about it.  This is gonna be a great fight.  I wanted to see Pacman vs Mayweather just like the rest of the world, but this may arguably be a tougher fight for money may.  I cant wait.....!!!

I've spent about 7 years getting drunk and yelling "Come on SUGE" 1-3 times a year.  No reason to stop now.

Unfortunately, while I really believe in his prime (and at 135) Mosley could have worked him, Mayweather is probably a better boxer at this point and he'll take this one.

I see this fight as someone who is old and couldn't get past Winky Wright against someone who is too busy "living the life" to be an elite fighter anymore and scared to fight the person the entire boxing world wants to see him fight.  This would have been a lot better fight five years ago.

That being said, I think Mayweather still has enough left to beat Mosley, who is pretty much a proverbial "shot fighter" with the proverbial "puncher's chance" at this point.

Wow you have Mayweather all wrong. I dont think you can find too many reports of Floyd Mayweather Jr "living the life". I think his talk on camera is what gave you this point of view.

Mosley is a legitimate fighter. Hes still top 5 in the division and who else can Mayweather fight given the breakdown of talks w/ Pacquiao. Mosley is going to be a very good test and is someone who will come prepared. I dont expect this to be a boring fight, however it does have the opportunity to be so with Mayweather defense.

And you cant put the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight solely on Floyd's shoulders....Mosley has agreed to the terms and Floyd has suggested that USADA drug testing will be a requirement for future fights. Fighters with nothing to hide should have no problem agreeing to the same standards all Olympians do. I hope Pac can compromise and agree.

it's not like Floyd himself wouldn't be subject to the exact same USADA regulations in testing as would any of his opponents. He would have to comply equally.

Like him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather is like a giant banking machine for his opponents in terms of their purse; indeed, who else is out there for Pac to fight where he could generate enough income for he and his children's children's children to live off?

I appreciate the apparent pain in the ass factor of the testing but I also wonder, given the sort of monies involved, what's Pac got to hide?

Wrong. Mayweather-De La Hoya is the highest selling PPV fight ever w/ 2.4million buys.

Here's the list of most PPV buys according to Forbes.com

Mayweather-De La Hoya 2.4 million buys
Holyfield-Tyson II 1.99million
Lewis-Tyson 1.97million
Holyfield-Tyson I 1.59million
Tyson-McNeely 1.55million
Trinidad-De La Hoya 1.4million
Foreman-Holyfield 1.4million
Tyson-Bruno 1.37million
Tyson-Ruddick II 1.25million
De La Hoya-Pacquiao = 1.25million buys
Holyfield-Lewis II 1.2million

Pacquiao-Clottey received a modest 700,000 buys and Pacquiao-Hatton = 800,000 buys. This is supposed to be the prime of Pacquiao's popularity. The constant you see here is obviously Mike Tyson with a little De La Hoya sprinkled in. De La Hoya fighting Mayweather almost doubled what DLH-Pac did.

Mayweather hit 1 million buys against Ricky Hatton and Marquez with another 1 million expected against Mosley. So Marcus I think you're confused.

In the present most reasonable boxing analysts give the devil (in Mayweather) his due. It's possible to be a Pacquiao apologist but let's face it, Money Mayweather is the most marketable guy in the game with the unblemished record and the name recognition. Pacquiao is a great fighter but he clearly has never seen any fighter with the sort of abilities of Mayweather. In the present Pac needs the Mayweather fight for his legitimacy, really.

Haven't seen Floyd in Time Magazine.  Just saying there's different measures than just $$$.  All my posts have been giving Floyd his due, btw.  But this was not a fight that makes people excited about boxing.

Please name these boxing analysts you speak of.  Ring Magazine has Manny #1 P4P, as well as Dan Rafael on ESPN.  School me you freaking canuck.  Ok, Bute would beat Manny, are you happy?

Mayweather by a decision, or Mosley by a KO/TKO. Mayweather is five years younger, but gives up an inch in height and two inches in reach.

Pacquiao is obviously one of the best fighters in boxing history, but if he fights Mayweather I don't think he's going to be able to overcome a huge five-inch reach disadvantage, especially considering Mayweather's speed and boxing skills. He also gives up an inch-and-a-half in height. Unless Mayweather turns out to have a glass chin, Manny is going to be hard pressed to overcome the physical disparity with him.

I'd have to believe that the Pacquiao camp is rooting for Mayweather tonight, since an undefeated Pretty Boy is still Manny's biggest $$ ticket by far. His refusal to agree to the drug testing could cost him the biggest payday he's ever going to see if Mosley pulls the upset.

I'll whoop Manny ass and then i'll run for office in his country.  Im kidding, but i got a cousin who will whoop his ass though.  Dont you hate the guy that says that he has a cousin that can do anything.  He has a cousin that boxes, plays in the Nfl, and of course his cousin is the best rapper in the world.  Sorry about that guys, but the "i have a cousin guy" kills me.  Anyways, i have swag, and i talk shit, and by the way, i am hoping and praying that Demar Dorsey makes in to campus in the fall!!  Michigan Football needs some swag.  By the way, all of my cousins would get destroyed by Pacman, dont tell them i said that though.

Manny is seriously coming off as a bitch and a cheater, he needs to submit to olympic style testing.  Not just Manny, all professional athletes that participate in all professional sports.

Well, Floyd looked good, but this shows why he's not the GOAT.  Mosley's face didn't even look like he'd been in a fight, let alone losing it.  Floyd talks about wanting to put on a show, but landing 12 punches a round doesn't qualify.

I worry a Manny-Floyd fight will be more of the same, but bring it on, PLEASE!

Rico616

Floyd faced adversity in the 2nd rd and pulled through it, I liked that. He also displayed elite conditioning, speed, and defense. As soon as Floyd caught a few punches he adjusted and made the fight his like a professional should do. At the end he made Mosley look like an amateur fighter and not the guy who just recently punished Margarito. Mayweather has destroyed Marquez (who Pacquiao fought 2 close fights with) and Mosley, I'm impressed.

Seriously this fight re-enforced my opinion that Mayweather would beat Pacquiao. The only advantage I give Pacquiao would be power. However often when manny punches he lunges and throws off his feet, I dont think he could do that with Mayweather as Mayweather clearly is the faster between the two.

Obviously the whole world wants Mayweather-Pacquiao to fight. All Manny needs to do is submit to the drug testing and from what I see in the media, message boards, and speaking with friends I think the general public think that Manny should submit to it if he is drug free. It would be a hell of a fight.
