OT; Maryland v. Duke

Good game and atmosphere. Can someone who isn't a maryland fan convince me that these refs aren't getting paid? These charge/block charges are atrocious.

Knight is a GREAT analyst. He points out stuff most people have no idea to look for. The wealth of knowledge that he shares is unlike anyone.

And this comes from someone who really doesn't like Knight, but I can't deny that the man knows his stuff.

Knight, like Greg Mattison, they've been around so long they just see everything and can teach anyone and everyone who will listen.

Sidenote: I worked at the University of Maryland for 3 years in athletics. There is nothing like Comcast Center when Duke or UNC come to town. Best place in college basketball. Look at how many students they give seats.

Also, little know fact...behind Duke's basket is the student wall. It's built at like a 30% angle, the steepest you can get to build an arena. It's full of students and really looks like a "wall." It's the craziest thing, if someone were to fall at the top, it's a ways down...but very intimidating.

Always remember this.  Duke gets to play "Duke Defense."  The other team gets called for touch fouls.  That's just how it is when you play Duke.  I'm amazed that they ever lose a game.

lol your irrational hatred of maryland might be the funniest thing on this board. Also to the poster talking about the crowd, the student section is the largest in the nation for basketball and it can get incredibly loud, though I still miss cole field house, hosted the final four that texas western won starting 5 black players.  Had no air conditioning and the building would shake, the maryland duke games in the early 2000's were literally the greatest atmospheres I have ever seen, jj reddick had to write poems about gettting abused by the crowd.

It's irrational like my hatred of MSU is irrational.  All UVA fans hate Maryland.  It's a rivalry - as a Maryland alum (I'm guessing) you ought to know that.  Every UVA fan can tell you a Cool Story Bro about their terrible experience with Maryland fans, ranging from cursing out 9-year-olds to slashed tires on RVs to the school president talking out his ass about UVA.  Way things go.

Actually just from Maryland, whole family went there, rooted for them the first 18 years of my life etc.  But I agree MD and UVA don't like each other but as far as I can tell MD fans don't hate UVa it's more annoying thing because you guys are such a pretentious fanbase for no reason.  Having better academics impacts sports how? and wearing ties to football games? really?  Uva fans are the reason I hate when people on mgoblog bringing up academics in a sports debate with state or ohio, yeah its funny to make jokes but if you are trying to have a legitimate sports discussion its just annoying and pretentious.  But yeah I would always root for uva over duke or unc so I think its funny that you hate md that much.

Maryland basketball is easy to dislike. Thre is a meanness about their crowd. Some fans have chants that are meant to get under players' skins but they cross the line too often into tastelessness. Then they rioted 2 years ago after beating Duke. There's some pent up hostility at that place.
