OT: Maryland Beats No. 2 Duke
February 16th, 2013 at 8:52 PM ^
There ya go
February 16th, 2013 at 8:54 PM ^
Jay Bilas still thinks Duke should be a 1 seed.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
Jay Bilas still endorses Bernie Madoff.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:20 PM ^
Listening to him on gameday this morning it made it tough to hear him he had duke so far down his throat.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
That caught me off guard. Well played.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:55 PM ^
What are we going to be ranked Monday?
February 16th, 2013 at 8:57 PM ^
probably somewhere between 6-8 and that honestly might be a little high.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:28 PM ^
Wait, how is dropping from 4 to 8 after getting whipped and losing 3 of the last 4 considered something worth downvoting?
February 17th, 2013 at 6:38 PM ^
It's not. But apparently unless your answer is "#1 in the country, long live Bo!" you will be received as a hostile force.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:31 PM ^
We'll almost certainly be 22-4, while having played a very difficult schedule, when the new polls come out. Why would a ranking between #6 and #8 be high? Where would you put us, outside the top 10?
February 16th, 2013 at 9:46 PM ^
Have played a tough schedule but no real marquee wins. pitt and k-state are solid, minnesota on the road is good but looks less impressive now than it did. I'd probably have indiana, duke (better wins), miami, gonzaga, syracuse, florida, msu, and possibly arizona though they have no real great wins either. That puts us at 7th or 8th and you could still make an argument for kansas though their schedule is easier. I'm not saying we are worse than all those teams, just that our resume matches up with those and how you choose to shuffle them around is mostly bias.
February 16th, 2013 at 11:08 PM ^
and NCSt & @Illinois are also two wins over "Others Receiving Votes"
But, yeah, 7-8 sounds reasonable. Anything in the Top 10 will work itself out by the end of the season.
February 17th, 2013 at 7:06 AM ^
dude, you're completely ignoring the bad loss column, which for M is COMPLETELY EMPTY.
Our 4 losses are to 3 top 10 teams and a top 15-20.
3/4 on the road.
February 17th, 2013 at 8:09 AM ^
4/4 losses on the road
February 17th, 2013 at 8:25 AM ^
To me, a 23 point loss is a bad loss even if it was against a top 10 team on the road.
February 17th, 2013 at 8:58 AM ^
w/e then everyone else has 1-2 more bad losses as well
February 17th, 2013 at 9:51 AM ^
U of A beat Florida and Miami (YTM), so it has great wins It's 20-4. But, it too lostits last 2 games (Cal at home and Colorado away), and it's ranked 16th in KenPom vs. Michigan's 5th.
February 17th, 2013 at 11:01 AM ^
My guess is 10-11.
February 17th, 2013 at 6:35 PM ^
For real? He asked what we would be ranked tomorrow and I gave him my honest opinion of 10-11. I guess its trolling unless I say we will be #1 in the country tomorrow even though we have dropped 3 of 4 and had a really hard time with a crap Penn State squad? Flamebait, what a joke.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:56 PM ^
Until Kelly comes back. If he comes back healthy they will be just as scary as they were at the start of the season when they were blowing through top 5 teams. Hopefully Morgan has that same effect on our squad...
February 16th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
Morgan is no Kelly sadly. Serviceable, but still not great
February 16th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
By one statistical analysis (conducted in mid-January), Morgan was the Big Ten's most valuable defender.
February 17th, 2013 at 6:40 AM ^
When they where blowing through top 5 teams like Kentucky and Louisville?
It's late in the season and alot easier to judge who is good and who isn't. It's a down year for college basketball but the big ten easily has 4-5 teams in the top 10 and 5-7 in the top 20.
Reminds me of the tourneys back when the big ten would have 4-5 teams in the sweet 16 and 2-3 in the final four. Michigan struggled onthe road vs. a good MSU team , name one team who wasn't struggled horribly in atleast one game. While you're at it name another who would have played better. Seriously they played Indiana , Wisconsin and MSU on the road 95% of college teams would go 0-3 in that stretch.
Until Michigan gets stronger defensively and stronger inside both defensively and offensively this seems like a sweet 16 team. They have the pieces to be an awesome team but college basketball doesn't really allow teams to gel for more than one season anymore.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:58 PM ^
holy shit, you mean other teams lose too?
it's not just M that loses 3-4 games a year? b/c I was under the impression (based on all the hoops threads) that only a crappy Beilein disaster of a team could lose 4 games.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:25 PM ^
Only undefeated teams are good. It's a well known blog rule.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:25 PM ^
For all intensive purposes are season was over after that msu game. Its like the team could of cared less. Theres no way they can bounce back from that.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:28 PM ^
Bunch of pre-madonnas.
February 16th, 2013 at 10:08 PM ^
1) it is "Intents and purposes"
2) the season isn't over until we lose in the NCAA tourney. Everything else is just a warm-up.
February 16th, 2013 at 10:21 PM ^
It's also "could have" and "couldn't care less." I thought it was obvious he was doing it on purpose...
February 16th, 2013 at 10:28 PM ^
When in doubt, see how OMGShirtless replied.
If it's sarcastic, the post was probably sarcastic. If it's mean, the post was probably serious.
February 16th, 2013 at 11:25 PM ^
not are season.
I think he was having fun.
February 17th, 2013 at 1:05 AM ^
These purposes are real intensive yo
February 18th, 2013 at 5:08 AM ^
I just wanted to throw this out there because I see it a lot, and this is in no way discounting anything you just said - but the saying is "for all intents and purposes"
February 18th, 2013 at 9:56 AM ^
Yes, that was truly fiery.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:02 PM ^
Fire KrzyzewskiRod!!!!!!!11!!1!!one!!!1!!
February 16th, 2013 at 9:03 PM ^
Always smile at a RR reference.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:02 PM ^
Looking forward to another quality hoops program in the conference. Unfortunately, the football programs of Maryland and Rutgers make me cringe especially after just cutting the check for my PSD.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:07 PM ^
Crabcakes and turnovers! That's what Maryland does!!
February 16th, 2013 at 9:16 PM ^
Nom nom nom nom nom nom
February 16th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
Meanwhile, last years national champion (Kentucky) lost by 30 to Tennessee and probably won't make the NCAA tourney.
Moral of the story? Things could be much worse
February 16th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
I don't know. Would you take a National Championship this year and a shitty season next year with no tournament. Or would you rather have an Elite 8 this year with a sweet 16 next year?
February 16th, 2013 at 9:26 PM ^
National Championship hands down.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
I hear ya. Point was, things could be worse relative to expectations.
Yes, I'd rather have a national championship last year.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
How many times has a team forced 26 turnovers and lost? Crazy game
February 16th, 2013 at 9:55 PM ^
I made that up - I have no idea
February 16th, 2013 at 9:07 PM ^
It's getting to the point, where I am just expecting at least 1 or 2 teams in the top 5 to lose every week now.
The week teams 1-5 go undeafeated, I will be surprised.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:09 PM ^
From an offensive standpoint, Maryland actually played some inspired basketball, shooting almost 13% above their typical effective FG%, whereas Duke actually put in what for them would be an average performance by most measures. Then again, anything which gives Coach K a sad makes the world a better place at least for a moment or two.
