Trestman has a bad track record as a play caller. Basically, his year #1 offenses are pretty good, but in year #2 he goes to the back end of the league. As a Bears fan, I witnessed the year #2 dropoff. Casual fans could identify most playcalls by what formation and personnel he was deploying.

But it was a windy day in Chicago.  The gales of December were blowing off Lake Michigan.  Marty's vaunted passing game stood no chance against the elements.   He was too smart for the game.

Actually, Marty was ahead of his time.   Under the current regular season NFL OT rules, I think his strategy might've been sound.

Since the NFL is limited, only 32 teams guys like Marty have to settle for positions like this to stay in the game.  What I find amazing is how you go from making over $ million as HC to several houndred thousand as a qb coach. Moral of the story, when you are a HC, spend your wisely because you do not when it is going to end.

Jelous Browns fan here.  We lose a decent, not great, but decent OC in Kyle Shanahan largely because:

A. We have no QB

B. The Owner likes to text play "suggestions" to the OC during the game

C. The Owner thinks we have a QB and is going to ram little Johnny Football down the throat of the OC thereby dooming his future

So who did WE get today for our OC?  Why none other that the immortal John DeFilippo, he of Raiders QB coach fame, who has never coordinated anything at the NFL level although he was the OC at San Jose State for a couple of years.

Oh and DeFilippo (who might be awesome but has zero track record so who knows) will be our SIXTH Offensive Coordinator in six years.  God help me.

All I can say is that you can't really go 5-27 as a QB coach really, or at least it won't be your name which comes up when the record comes up in sports media, but then he was a QB coach/OC with San Francisco when we came calling, I believe.

That aside, it's interesting how coaching is a small community - Trestman will be with the Ravens as well, of course, and that is who Mornhinweg replaced as OC at San Francisco in 1997.
