He'll get drafted but no way is the dude going to be a top-flight NFL QB. Below average arm strength, never played under center and schooled in a single-read passing game where his check down responsibility was limited at best.

IMO a he's a taller, better citizen Johnny Manziel.

Their play styles aren't even remotely similar. Manziel is an improviser/scrambler type while Mariota is much more of a pure runner/system passer.

Mariota won't be a successful traditional NFL QB (just like Manziel won't) but if any NFL team decides to try a college style spread Mariota would be the number one choice to run it.

Mariotta made a great decision to go pro. He is a good college QB who has almost zero NFL potential. Will be out of the NFL within two years. That Oregon system is simple for a QB to learn and has very simple passes, so it's no wonder that a QB would have good stats.

Oregon is the McDonalds of College Football. Everything is very automated, and nobody has to be particularly skilled. Players do nothing at Oregon to make themselves more NFL ready. This is why so few of their players become NFL guys. Hope you had a good time in college before selling insurance.....

We've been sending like one guy per year to the league for the last 5 years. Obviously we aren't a good comparison. Still though, Oregon is getting a lot of 5* guys who are not improving at all over their time in Eugene. Some have been so athletic that they will make an NFL roster, but it certainly wasn't Oregon who put them there.

59 total tds to only 6 turnovers is ridiculous. That is the best ratio in the history of college football. Regardless of how QB friendly Oregon's offense is, it's not like just any QB could put up those numbers. Arm strength isn't everything, if it was the Tim Couch's and Ryan Leaf's of the world would not have been NFL busts. Intelliegence and decision making can make up for not having the best arm strength.  I am not sure how he will turn out, but he has the intelligence to learn a more NFL oriented scheme.

Marcus Mariota won every CB award for which he was eligible. He has nothing left to prove as a college player. His size, his arm, his footspeed, and his character bode well for NFL success.

And FWIW, today's newspaper article about Marcus noted that coming out of high school in Honolulu the recruiting services rated him a three-star recruit. So those who're concerned about Coach Jim scouting three-star QB recruits in Texas or wherever shouldn't worry: I suspect Coach Jim has an eye for QB talent.
