OT: Mariota and Winston Are What We Thought They Were (Combine Results)

Mariota threw 13/15 on throwing drills, ran a 4.52 40 and had a 36 in vert

Winston threw 16/16, ran a 4.97 40 and had a 28 in vert

Winston's a more polished passer; Mariota is a better athlete.

Chip Kelly was paying attention to Mariota for sure. Kind of scares me as an Eagles fan of the lengths he might go to getting him. Wouldn't want to pull a Washington with RG3 mortgaging the future of the team...

I think the Bucs will still take Winston #1 and Mariota will fall to around 6-10... Eagles might make a play for that Jets pick.

Pertinents of the .gif please. I've long divorced pop culture I'm afraid and this made me chuckle for some reason... and I have no idea where it orginated from or what is transpiring there, other than seemingly unintentional hilarity. TIA.

You sir are a "hater". I hope that you find peace at some juncture EGJ. A felon? Lol...soda pop thief....wow. This kid made stupid mistakes and has been crucified by holier-than-thou grown folks who likely made many of the same mistakes. If the false allegations never surfaced...you wouldn't have ever even heard of the garbage you rattled off. Way to be a sheep.....letting the NY times, ESPN and other pay for click media outlets shape your opinions. Pathetic.

Sorry I am a realist.  When there is this much smoke, smoke, smoke, there usually is some FIRE.  We all did stupid things in our youth, but I guess I was too boring as I did not reach the JW pinncle.  In addition, these "kids" are taught by their athletic departments to understand the conceopt that they are quasi-public figures and that represent their university and need to be careful not to do stupid things.  Many people, like you I am sure, were apologists for Johnny Football, well how is that working out now, just calling them like I see them, it would be awesome for everyone if he does shape up.  But get....

Winston WILL be a huge failure in the NFL because he doesn't have the mental tenacity, maturity, and discipline to succeed in the pros.  Give him a ton of money and take away the weak leash that FSU and the NCAA had him on, and you have a recipe for disaster.  Any team that invests a high draft pick in him will be making a huge mistake.  Bank on it.

religion: hate on these people, love these people. With Winston, people let their hatred get in the way of seeing his talent. He's pretty bright, and he's a damned good QB.

Don't bother to 'splain me; he's done some awful things. As the SI article about his showed, no one demanded any discipline from the guy from the time he reached 8th grade.

That doesn't mean that Christian redemption isn't his for the taking, just like all of us.

Winston lost one game in college.  He led a lot of fourth quarter comebacks.  He can cram passes into small windows with split-second timeframes.  But he doesn't have the "mental tenacity?"

Winston made a lot of sophomoric mistakes: as a freshman and as a sophomore.  Go figure.  He will be a much better NFL QB than Manziel was this year and will be much better than Mariota.  Matiota has a lot better chance of being the next Julian Edelman than the next Drew Brees.

At disappointing people?  Sure.

He's a good QB, but for the life of me I don't see how anything he's done this year would make him seem like a shoo-in star in the NFL.  He might not be a bust, but is he demonstrably better than Blake Bortles, to pull a name out of a hat?  I mean, yea, he completed 16/16 passes.  He's also pretty slow, not supremely athletic, and seems like a bit of a headcase.  If I'm TB, that would scare the crap out of me at #1.

The fact that you liken him to Cam Newton of all people explains a lot. The only similarity he has with Cam is that he is black. Jameis is a pocket passer....not a zone read guy. He reads defenses well and is elite in terms of arm talent and accuracy. He is also football intelligent. He has a high a chance to succeed at the position as any qb to come out in years.

28 interceptions in two years (including 18 last year) doesn't support your assertions of reading defenses well nor football intelligence...  And that's in the weak ACC not known for defenses and with FSU having tons of talent around him.

He definitely has skills, but he's nowhere close to being a sure thing...

Matt Ryan had 19 interceptions and he was drafted fine... I love how people LOVE to compare Winston to other black QBs who have nothing in common with him other than his skin color, but refuse to acknowledge how similar Winston is to other white QBs before him.

The casual fans really showing their true colors.

Winston seems like the case where he looks like he runs much faster than his 40 time. He's got that athletic ability and elusiveness to his game that provides a huge asset. Tampa might as well sign him now.

im a skins fan and everyone blows up the rg3 trade. ill explain this again. they traded 1st round picks in that draft only with a 3rd. then gave up there next year 1st which don't forget ended up being pick around 23, and gave up a 4th round that year.that isn't much to take what EVERYONE thought was a game changing qb.

mGrowOld!!! I moved to CLE in 1985 for work. I've never encountered such an annoying fanbase. I prefer to root FOR my teams, and not hate on others. After a few years here, I genuinely wanted the Browns to lose every game by 40. The franchise is pathetic, but the fans are worse than Bucknuts. Help me understand how one can "become" a Browns fan.

I promise I wont make fun of you

I love being a Lions fan living in DC because every offseason the skins fans are their usual ass selves, then ever since RGIIIs second year, have been terrible.

He was only a sure thing as the second pick in the same way that Darko was a sure thing as the second pick - it was dumb and a lot of people said it was dumb, only the Redskins traded 3(!) first rounders and a 2nd rounder to get him.

The RGIII deal was unequivocally dumb.

That draft I had the Lions drafting Stanton in the 4th round. When they grabbed him in the second... I questioned the move.  But then Millen knows football better than me, so that's why he's the Lions GM, right?

Not sure why so many think that the Bucs are automatically picking Winston. He has too many issues that have surrounded him. Did anyone watch the Rose Bowl? Mariota showed everything in that game you needed to know...so did Jameis. My money is Tampa pick the Marcus.

Jameis had maybe 1 turnover that was his fault in which he was trying to make a play on 4th down resulting in a funky fumble.

The rest of the turnovers were cause of his receivers and rb coughing it up. Winston is a better pocket passer and if he can show any semblance of maturity, he will be picked.

Winston seems destined to be the type of pick that haunts an NFL franchise for years. He has the physical tools, but the disciplined mental makeup just isn't there. Also don't see Winston and a multi-million dollar contract being a good mix.

Except Jamarcus was an under 60% passer for most of his college career. Winston has been consistently above 65% as a passer. He's also a much better second level passer and he fits balls into tighter pockets than Russell could. Jamarcus threw for 6625 yards in 3 years, where as Winston threw for 7964 in two. Winston is stastically better in every single category and in a shorter amount of time. Winston also won't go into camp way overweight. Winston has a lot of question marks and red flags, but he's much more talented than Russell ever was.

If I'm the Bucs, I'm praying that Kelly is desperate enough to trade up for Mariota. I'm not sold on either QB, and the Bucs have so many holes on their roster that a QB isn't going to fix by himself.

If I'm the Bucs, I'm praying the Eagles want to trade up and mortgage several years worth of first and second round picks. They need an infusion of talent in a lot more places than just the QB position.
