OT: Marcus Lattimore dislocated knee

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said running back Marcus Lattimore had his right knee dislocated against Tennessee, and the injury is something he can come back from to play football again.

Spurrier said the injury was significant, but discounted speculation Lattimore never would play football again. Lattimore has not used a redshirt season so he could take as long as necessary to recover and still return to the Gamecocks for the 2014 season.

It's too bad for this guy and hopefully he can bounce back from it.  It's pretty crazy they are already ruling out a return for the 2013 season and talking about redshirting.  I'm obviously not a doctor, but there's still 10 months to go until that season starts.

Yesterday I read this tweet:

@AthletePride: Marcus Lattimore suffered a Broken Femur, Broken Patella, Torn ACL, Torn MCL, Torn PCL, and Torn LCL in Yesterday's Game. #PrayForLattimore

I'm a doctor, and to put this injury in perspective, every ligament connecting his calf to his thigh was completely torn AND he broke his thigh bone. That's not something anyone, even a well-conditioned 20 or 21 year old, is coming back from in a year. Hope he can make it back for 2014 and have a great career, he's a beast

He suffered a Broken Femur, Broken Patella, Torn ACL, Torn MCL, Torn PCL, and Torn LCL. Yeah that's gonna take a while to recover from. Also his second ACL tear.

Hate to see that, especially to a guy that had so much riding on this season for NFL prospects. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery. I wonder if this would qualify as a "boo-boo" under Hokes ridiculous injury classification system.

This is much much worse than Mcgahee's injury. I will truly be surprised if he plays any meaningful football again. It's sad bc he is/was a beast and apparently well-liked. He will need extensive rehab. This isn't a normal injury.

I cringed when I watched it. His leg flipped back over like a useless piece of meat. Thoughts and prayers for a full and speedy recovery for him.

Much better than the tweets I saw that said he tore acl, mcl, pcl, broke his femur and dislocated knee ... yes all in one tweet. So hopefully what you posted is right and he can be back out there in a year or two.

This is actually an improved prognosis from what they were thinking yesterday. As of last night, they were thinking he'd never play again. This was just heartbreaking to watch yesterday, from the injury to all of the aftermath and post game interviews, for such a great young man. Seeing him play several times in high school at Byrnes is something I will never forget. So sad.

The patellofemoral joint can dislocate. The kneecap goes lateral (away from the body) and goes over the femoral condyle (bony prominence at bottom of thigh bone) that's what u see well in the beach soccer Internet video (YouTube it...it's a great example)

Mgoorthopedicsurgery here if there r other ?s

He tore his ACL, PCL, MCL, and who knows what else. He will definitely take a year at minimum to recover. He will NOT be a cutback running back for two years. Sorry Steve, but you are high.

What, exactly, are you smoking? The team doctor specifically said that there were no fractures or broken bones, and didn't say anything more than there were injuries to several ligaments. At this moment, there is absolutely no reason to think he can't recover and play football again at a high level.

I am a transplanted Michigan fan representing in Columbia, SC, and my heart sank when I saw Lattimore go down with this injury.  He is obviously an incredibly talented player, but he also seems like a genuinely good kid who represents the Gamecocks admirably.  Only time will tell how it will impact his future football career.  I'm hoping all the best for him.

I know they're different players but I see a lot of people comparing the injury to Willis mcgahee's and he's having a very good game tonight. There's definitely still hope for Marcus' career. Until then my thoughts and prayers go out to him.

I saw that game and it was heart breaking. This is a kid that really was needing to go NFL to have a shot at something and I don't know if anyone wants him with the injuries he has had.

I wish him the best of course.
