OT: Marcus Lattimore dislocated knee
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said running back Marcus Lattimore had his right knee dislocated against Tennessee, and the injury is something he can come back from to play football again.
Spurrier said the injury was significant, but discounted speculation Lattimore never would play football again. Lattimore has not used a redshirt season so he could take as long as necessary to recover and still return to the Gamecocks for the 2014 season.
It's too bad for this guy and hopefully he can bounce back from it. It's pretty crazy they are already ruling out a return for the 2013 season and talking about redshirting. I'm obviously not a doctor, but there's still 10 months to go until that season starts.

Good to see he can come back, but how? That was the worst joint-injury i've ever seen in a football game.

For some of our MgoDocs, what is the typical damage that typically accompanies a dislocated knee cap? Are there ligaments that get blown out?

I'm a doctor, and to put this injury in perspective, every ligament connecting his calf to his thigh was completely torn AND he broke his thigh bone. That's not something anyone, even a well-conditioned 20 or 21 year old, is coming back from in a year. Hope he can make it back for 2014 and have a great career, he's a beast

This is actually an improved prognosis from what they were thinking yesterday. As of last night, they were thinking he'd never play again. This was just heartbreaking to watch yesterday, from the injury to all of the aftermath and post game interviews, for such a great young man. Seeing him play several times in high school at Byrnes is something I will never forget. So sad.

That doesn't make any sense. The knee isn't a ball and socket joint, so how can one dislocate it?

I am a transplanted Michigan fan representing in Columbia, SC, and my heart sank when I saw Lattimore go down with this injury. He is obviously an incredibly talented player, but he also seems like a genuinely good kid who represents the Gamecocks admirably. Only time will tell how it will impact his future football career. I'm hoping all the best for him.

I saw that game and it was heart breaking. This is a kid that really was needing to go NFL to have a shot at something and I don't know if anyone wants him with the injuries he has had.
I wish him the best of course.
