OT: Manning on passing
They have Peyton in the booth of the Tenn/LSU game. He just stated that 75% of his throws come without him being able to step into the throw. He says they practice it regularly. I just found it interesting considering all the talk of Denard's problems in the passing game.

There's a difference between being able to step into your throws and throwing them off your back foot while leaning away from the line of scrimmage. It also helps if you're Peyton Manning.

Practice him not stepping into his throw? I confoosed. I must add, while I respect Payton a lot (alot alot alot alot), I do recall him not winning to many of the big ones while down in the ESS EEE CEE...perhaps he should of stepped into his throws? I don't know, I'm off for another cold one while I think of something else to write in teh Tigers Rangers thread...

You don't recall him winning many big games in the SEC? How about his more recent history of not winning any big games in the NFL? For all the "Peyton as a top 5 QB all-time talk," he was 0-4 against Florida and 1-3 in Bowl Games, and in the NFL has a losing record in the playoffs and his only Super Bowl came against an opponent that had Rex Grossman as their starting QB. He's one of the all-time Comes-Up-Small players in history.
But hey, he sounds all folksy calling people "liquored up kickers" whenever he's called out on being anti-clutch, so who cares, right?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Let's also remember that in his lone SB win, beyond the fact the Bears did not have a QB, Manning did not play particularly well. The Indy defense, led by Iowa product Bob Sanders (hate him!) played a huge role in their victory.
Also, let's not forget that Tee Martin followed Manning at Tennessee and led essentially the same team to a 12-0 record and MNC in 1998.

Manning was 2-2 in bowls. The victories came over Ohio State and Northwestern in the Citrus bowl in consecutive years.
I have to agree about Manning's big game performances, though.

Quarterbacks do practice throwing without stepping into their throws. They practice throwing on rollouts and squaring their shoulders to the target while throwing on the run. They practice throwing while hitching up into the pocket under pressure. But when Manning had time on a three step drop, I bet he stepped into the throw. Denard still hasn't mastered that basic throw especially when throwing to the left. I think he will master this and other skills, but I don't think we will really see the results until next year. Michigan did not play well today, but Sparty beats us 4 times in a row once a century. Denard and Michigan will bounce back from this, and they will continue to improve.

It's a lot harder to throw when they're in your face 24-7.
Today was the worst - Huyge and Omameh were getting eaten alive all afternoon.

MSU's DL seemed to have a quickness/speed advantage at the edge when trying to turn the corner. That forced our guys into more situations where they had to choose between holding and letting the D-lineman blow by them. Neither of those is a good outcome, and our coaches need to work on fixing that going forward.

Why all the consternation? They were beat by a better team. The players know it as do the coaching staff.
That said, they will learn and no doubt improve. Whether enough to beat better teams remains to be seen.

Well there's a difference between a 10 year NFL vet throwing off his back foot and a guy 3 years out of High School going through an Offensive System change throwing off his back foot
