He resigned. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4711389 Lousy ending for him. Sort of like our season if everything about it had been worse.

OT: Mangino out at Kansas
WOW
didn't he say a month or so ago he was confident he would remain and wouldn't resign? obviously they gave him 'the option' of being fired/resigned but holy shit that was quick.
that and a $50 gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse.
It was part of the severance package.
Guess it is not a good year for coaches who have extra weight placed on them....
Very PC
Mangino will end up back at Oklahoma
Yeah, I mean how else do you fill the big shoes after Bob Stoops goes to ND.
[/sarcasm]
Weis to Kansas.
Congratulations, you are now a source in an upcoming Detroit News story about Kansas' new football coach
I get the joke, but I meant as OC.
Yeah, that's how I understood you. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see that, but I'm not sure if OU brings him in right now. Too soon after the controversy and I'm not sure the Sooners would toss Wilson back to co-offensive coordinator right now. He has improved the OU offense as the lone coordinator since Mangino left.
Mangino probably will not go to OU in the immediate future. That publicity would not be good.
OU is not going to touch Mangino. In fact, I would be very surprised if he gets another high profile job in college football. Excessive work allegations aside, some of the comments he (allegedly) made to players were highly racialized... (http://kansas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1018041) When allegations like this surface, it all but destroys your ability to recruit.
It's not like Mo ran into difficulty finding work after his concerns...not much recruiting as a coordinator or position coach in the league.
Mangino with Charlie on the same staff = heaviest coaching staff in NCAAF????
that's a weighty issue to consider...
dammit, I couldn't much help it.
I'll just put this here...
Insert fat jokes here__________________________.
My Grandpa had season tickets at Oklahoma, and sat a few rows behind the Sooner bench when Mangino was an assistant there. He said that Mangino would take players and scream and berate them with unbelievable language near the stands, and it was so bad that the fans booed him. I was a little surprised when I first heard this (around the KU Orange Bowl win), but I obviously can see how this happened. Pity, he could have been a good coach.
"My Grandpa had season tickets at Oklahoma, and sat a few rows behind the Sooner bench when Mangino was an assistant there."
That sucks. For the amount of money he surely paid I'm sure he was pretty pissed that he didn't get to see much of the field...
He is much happier with his new ones on the same yard line, just much higher. He had to catch an early flight home from our Thanksgiving gathering to go to the OSU-OU game, and he was incredibly happy with that. Epic little brother smackdown.
Isn't Magino KU's most successful coach ever? Too bad it had to end this way.
story says he was two wins short
I guess a single BCS appearance is success in Kansas...it is too bad it had to end that way.
like being the smartest guy at the bowling alley
Nice work running off the greatest coach in the history of your crappy program because of "allegations of verbal abuse." Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones"?
Hopefully the big guy lands on his feet somewhere, since I doubt he could get up otherwise (sorry, couldn't resist).
The actual reason Mangino resigned was due to the impending shift in gravitational pull. He and Weis are such heavy masses that they've become gravitationally attracted to each other. With Weis moving East(most likely since that's where more of the NFL is centered), Mangino is preparing for the adjustment that he'll have to make. I think he ends up somewhere around Tennessee/Kentucky.
There was some speculation that Kansas was trying to fire him for cause and that is why their investigation was dragging on so long.
Column which outlines the reasoning ... I wasnt aware of his rep so this was helpful for anyone curious.

CALLED THEY WOUNDERED IF HE WOULD COME WORK AT THE GOLDEN DOME, HE ACCEPTED BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THEY SAID 'GOLDEN ARCHES". iM GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL.
PLUS THE DOME LOOKS LIKE A GIANT SHINY CUPCAKE,MMMMMMMMMMMMMM
equals suxors
Okay, just saw on ESPN ticker that Magino took KU to 3 bowl games in 8 years, and KU made it to 3 bowl games in the previous 101 years. That's right, 101 years. Good luck Kansas; hope you're happy. Enjoy becoming a Big 12 doormat once again.
With Mangino and Weis gone thats going to be a large line for unemployment.
Mangino was the best thing ever to hapen to KU football by a long shot. Terrible decision really. Many football coaches have tempers, but you really didnt hear people complain when they were in the orange bowl 2 years ago...they should have reprimanded him or something but firing is just plain dumb. No good coach is going to want to coach at a school that is a basketball first school.
WHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!
Oh Jesus Christ why did you post this? In the past two hours I've found out that our future stub RB has a torn ACL and our best returning defensive player isn't returning at all. Have you no mercy?
Man, it is a really bad year to be a fat bastard of a coach. The only reason Friedgen didn't get fired is cause his buyout is insane.
That's like 900 pounds of fired coach when you factor Weis in.
I bet it's more than that...
