OT: Mangino out at Kansas

He resigned. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4711389 Lousy ending for him. Sort of like our season if everything about it had been worse.

didn't he say a month or so ago he was confident he would remain and wouldn't resign? obviously they gave him 'the option' of being fired/resigned but holy shit that was quick.

Yeah, that's how I understood

Yeah, that's how I understood you. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see that, but I'm not sure if OU brings him in right now. Too soon after the controversy and I'm not sure the Sooners would toss Wilson back to co-offensive coordinator right now. He has improved the OU offense as the lone coordinator since Mangino left.

Mangino probably will not go to OU in the immediate future. That publicity would not be good.

OU is not going to touch

OU is not going to touch Mangino. In fact, I would be very surprised if he gets another high profile job in college football. Excessive work allegations aside, some of the comments he (allegedly) made to players were highly racialized... (http://kansas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1018041) When allegations like this surface, it all but destroys your ability to recruit.

welcome to the nfl mark mangino

It's not like Mo ran into difficulty finding work after his concerns...not much recruiting as a coordinator or position coach in the league.

My Grandpa had season tickets

My Grandpa had season tickets at Oklahoma, and sat a few rows behind the Sooner bench when Mangino was an assistant there. He said that Mangino would take players and scream and berate them with unbelievable language near the stands, and it was so bad that the fans booed him. I was a little surprised when I first heard this (around the KU Orange Bowl win), but I obviously can see how this happened. Pity, he could have been a good coach.

That sucks. For the amount of money he surely paid I'm sure he was pretty pissed that he didn't get to see much of the field...

He is much happier with his

He is much happier with his new ones on the same yard line, just much higher. He had to catch an early flight home from our Thanksgiving gathering to go to the OSU-OU game, and he was incredibly happy with that. Epic little brother smackdown.

I will now root against KU football

Nice work running off the greatest coach in the history of your crappy program because of "allegations of verbal abuse." Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones"?

Hopefully the big guy lands on his feet somewhere, since I doubt he could get up otherwise (sorry, couldn't resist).

The actual reason Mangino

The actual reason Mangino resigned was due to the impending shift in gravitational pull. He and Weis are such heavy masses that they've become gravitationally attracted to each other. With Weis moving East(most likely since that's where more of the NFL is centered), Mangino is preparing for the adjustment that he'll have to make. I think he ends up somewhere around Tennessee/Kentucky.

Surprised he resigned

There was some speculation that Kansas was trying to fire him for cause and that is why their investigation was dragging on so long.

Okay, just saw on ESPN ticker

Okay, just saw on ESPN ticker that Magino took KU to 3 bowl games in 8 years, and KU made it to 3 bowl games in the previous 101 years. That's right, 101 years. Good luck Kansas; hope you're happy. Enjoy becoming a Big 12 doormat once again.

Dumb

Mangino was the best thing ever to hapen to KU football by a long shot. Terrible decision really. Many football coaches have tempers, but you really didnt hear people complain when they were in the orange bowl 2 years ago...they should have reprimanded him or something but firing is just plain dumb. No good coach is going to want to coach at a school that is a basketball first school.
