Good for Magnus. I know he has a few haters (Dudeness) but I've always appreciated Magnus's insight and contributions to the board. I hope he doesn't big-time us now and stop posting here on this blog.
I was always curious . . . what is the relationship between Brian/MGoBlog and Magnus/TTB?
For a long time I thought Magnus was one of the writers for MGoBlog, he is such an ever-present figure here. I was quite surprised when I found out that he had his own competing blog.
How does that dynamic work? I know that blogs will link to each other, but I don't think I've ever seen a case where one blog proprietor spends so much time on another blog proprietor's site. Does Brian ever post on Magnus's site?
The relationship between MGoBlog and TTB is pretty much what you see on the board and on the front page. I link to MGoBlog sometimes, and MGoBlog links to me sometimes. I spend a lot of time on this site/board, but AFAIK, Brian doesn't post on TTB. Of course, he's not a frequent poster on the MGoBoard (probably because he's busy writing and doing technical things for the front page), so I wouldn't expect him to post on my site. There's not much interaction behind the scenes.
It's probably a mischaracterization to say that I run a "competing" blog. TTB is no competition when it comes to traffic/community. I think the thing that really drives MGoBlog from a business perspective is the community that has been built on the message board, through comments, etc. I simply don't have that kind of interaction on TTB.
If I had 45+ comment threads congratulating a site participant on an accomplishment, then I probably wouldn't have the need/desire to come to MGoBlog and interact. It just doesn't happen in many places, so I come here to get a dose of snark, pop culture, sports news, etc. I do interact regularly in the comments on TTB, but there are simply a lot fewer comments/commenters.
I simply don't have that kind of interaction on TTB.
Smaller, but energetic ... your thread on Ben Mason was interesting.
I really like TTB ... Magnus/Thunder's writing and analysis is great.
Congrats on the opportunity to crystal ball prophesy!
Right. The posters are good, and we have some lengthy conversations. It's just a smaller pool of participants.
Less people to pee in the pool. I like it.
Your insights are much appreciated by most on MGOBLOG.
I don't post but I often read
I come here for Brian's writing, and that's it. Recruiting news and whatever he writes.
The rest is parroted shit.
And if you come to the message board for any form of entertainment other than to laugh at Mgoposers, man, your life must be shit.
looks like here's your dose of snark for today Magnus.
My life is pretty good, but if you need to put me down to feel better, I'll be your Huckleberry.

+1 Informative.
Congrats indeed. Does WD get a vote in the new season of project runway next?
Maybe use a different S, WD. Also why so far in advance?
Lots of work. And I'm talking about inputting the data onto the site, not just building the site framework.

On the surface, the site sounds pretty cool. But data loads can be a work in progress - upload what you have ready and leave placeholders for the stuff that isn't ready. Not only does that get the site live quicker than 2018, it also gives you the chance to edit/upload stuff people are looking for, rather than whatever it is you decide we're looking for. If you decide wrong, nobody ever goes back to your site and it dies a slow, painfully agonizing death. Re-visits are what will keep it viable...
And for the love of God, CHANGE THAT S!!!
I envision you spending years putting this together only to come to the realization much too late that Mr. Skin has already been doing a SuperGuide for years.

either that or he will get some chick knocked up in a year and won't have the time to do that.
That "maize" is too orangy.
Do not like.
Really? Congrats Magnus. Wish you the best going forward.
What is his first crystal ball? Also, does he actually communicate with recruits? If not, how can he make predictions that aren't based on other people's work. However, I would love to see him contribute to the overall rankings
Perhaps Magnus would like to answer your other questions. I was wondering the same thing.
I don't think Brian and Ace communicate with recruits, so I don't see how it's any different...
Great point. Still seems weird
if I am to be consistent, it seems that maybe the shouldn't. I feel like the only way to truly have a system like this and make independent predictions is by maintaining close relationships with receuits. Otherwise it is just a true guess based on hearsay
As someone mentioned above, my first Crystal Ball last night was for Corey Malone-Hatcher to Michigan.
As a matter of principle, I don't frequently pursue interactioins with recruits. I used to reach out to them a little bit, and I actually got pretty positive results. But I think it's a bit of a conflict of interest to interview them and pretend to be warm and fuzzy, and then turn around and criticize their athleticism, behavior, etc. At one time I had someone else doing interviews (shoutout to Andrew) in order to maintain that distance, but that fell by the wayside as he got busier and busier with his own life.
I do have recruits and parents reach out to me at times to give me updates. Through my own professional connections, I hear some things from other coaches regarding players. I've also had some critical comments from parents and recruits. However, my contact with them is far less than someone like Steve Lorenz. As for giving access to the CB picks, I see it was mentioned that Ace has a CB account, too. So there are others making picks who are not heavily involved in recruit interactions.
I have always thought your strength was your even-handed evaluations of prospects.
Steve, Steve and Clint and to a slightly lesser extent Ace/Brian are the only cbs I look for. Magnus will fall in the same category as Ace and Brian. Most of the rest are pure speculation and homerism. Tom Loy and Sean Scherer are two of the worst. The Rutgers guys are also pure Homers. MGoFish has a cb now. I look at his site occasionally but his cb is meaningless. If we are competing for a recruit with someone like Alabama and thier writers cb to Michigan Ill put some stock into that too.
I go to TTB frequently but have never posted. Thunders analysis of recruits is some good stuff.
Congrats Magnus....
Well deserved, and he has great stuff. Of course I would read his blog a lot more if I weren't afraid of being accused of looking at pormography.
Porm is evil.

You're going to be accused anyway, so you may as well do it.
Magnus and Brian should crystal ball everyone to MSU and OSU and then laugh when they commit to Michigan kind of like Lawrence Marshall.
All hail Magnus! All hail Magnus! All hail Magnus!
Congratulations, Magnus! You deserve it, man
Glad he got one. He deserves it. Couple people here rag on him for whatever reason, but his analysis and projections tend to be spot on.
Congrats, Magnus!!
Wasn't easy I'm sure, but I appreciate your insight
Congrats to the Magnus. Now everybody can see your balls
They're shiny.
Crystal clear.
Theyre blue.
Theyre blue.
Congrats! Shine them up real nice because you're on the big stage now!
So......I expect one for DPJ to U-M as your first one.
