(OT) Made a healthy cooking video with Darboh and me (Vincent Smith)

Submitted by MrSmith on

Happy NewYears Mgoblog.

Here is a video that Darbo and I (Vincent Smith) made to promote healthy eating as part of an assignment in his ROSS bschool class.

One thing I realized recently is that one of Michigan's strengths and the reason why our garden is going so strong, is because at Michigan we learn to work in groups.

I learned how to work with all different people and to communicate and work together. To figure out the best solutions.  I had spoke as a guest last fall and this fall at ROSS and the students from Dr. Rob Pasick's class all had assignments to contribute consulting tips to Team Gardens

(we athletes build gardens with kids to make veggies cool for anyone reading that doesnt know)

Amara Darboh and I collaborated to make the first episode of our healthy cook series.

Last year, my doctor gave me some very sobering news about my health and strongly advised that I change my diet as a result. In less than six months, all of the blood chemistry tests for indicators of heart disease had done a complete 180. One of the things I did was to create a OneNote recipe book that I keep online to share with family and friends. Not all of the recipes are "healthy" (there are some holdouts from the days before my doctor visit last year). But you're welcome to anything in there. Let me know if you'd like me to share them with you.

Have you eaten at Hut K resturaunt in Ann Arbor? Mark is friends with Dr. Swarrop Bojani .  Dr Bojani (Taught at UM Med School) designed there menu to be healthy. I love the food there.

Marc and Dr. Bojani do lectures together and I missed the last one.

The whole food and plant diet is where its at.  Thanks for the link its on my 2017 list to meet up and learn more from Marc

I hope you do some vegetarian videos! I made some major changes to my diet last year and mostly live off of lentils now. Always looking for new recipes.

Whole Foods Market has some great online resources. Also, consider expanding beyond lentils, to include other legumes, tempeh (if you can eat soy), and various crumbled meat substitutes that you can make using tofu (some of them are very good - in bolognese sauce and chili, you won't notice much difference). Last year, I ate at a vegan restaurant in Calgary. The use of tofu, cauliflower, and other ingredients as meat substitutes was a revelation. It used to really miss eating red meat. I don't anymore.

We most definenitly will add vegetarian videos as well. its very delicious. i just tried Ethiopian food and had two types of lentils. I really enjoyed it maybe you will as well.

Whole Food does have alot of great beans, qinoa and many other types that we can substitute for a heathier meal.

Ross emphasizes group work and it does make a difference in a career. You shouldn't worry about the multiple takes - even Martha Stewart has multiple takes after years of filming these types of clips. Perfectionists grind until it's right.

Thanks for the videos. I watched this first one and enjoyed the positive influence on me to keep eating healthy, but I'm even more hopeful that the kids that want to grow up healthy and cool like you will follow your lead.

First time I saw Vince Smith I could not believe we had a RB wearing #2.

After watching his entire career I came to the conclusion it could not have gone to a better man. Guy played with so much heart, our current backs should be watching film of his pass pro every day.

Vince's website is:   teamgardens.org

It would be great if everyone from the Mgoblog family went to that site and purchased a shirt (very cool looking ones, I might add) to support his work.

Vincent,

My son has to prepare a meal for his scout troop's Polar Bear weekend campout next weekend.  He's going to make your steak and peppers fajitas for his troop.

Hello! We all understand that nutrition is an important part of the training. However, nutrition is not everything. Sometimes we need to take additional Keto-friendly Ketogenic amino acids to get the results more fastly. Somebody should have mentioned it
