OT: Luck plans on staying for senior season at Stanford

Submitted by BKFinest on

I'm not going to take the Harbaugh angle; instead, I find it interesting on it's own that a near lock for the #1 pick is going to go back to school for his senior season. Impressive.

"SI's Peter King reported on Football Night in America on NBC Sunday that Stanford QB Andrew Luck's "current plan" is to stay in school rather than leave for the 2011 NFL draft.

King cites Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, who doesn't think Luck will go pro because of his commitment to academics. Should Luck enter the draft, he'd be the consensus favorite to be selected first overall by Carolina. Ultimately, the third-year sophomore's decision may depend on his performance in the Cardinal's December 3 Orange Bowl matchup with Virginia Tech. The Hokies have one of the most talented secondaries in college football."

a)  he heard from Luck that Luck's current plan is to stay his senior year, or

b)  he heard from Jim Harbaugh that Harbaugh doesn't think Luck will leave because he knows that academics are important to Luck, and

then King made the logical leap himself and asked us to join him.

In other words, do we know Luck said he is staying?

And in more words, I am getting sick of having to parse everything the reporters say because they do more speculating than reporting.  Section 1 has convinced me that I cannot believe what I think I'm reading.

I have to hand it to anyone that can put academics over a dream come true and 7 million a year, but on the other hand I really have to wonder about anyone who can put academics over a dream come true and 7 million a year.

is starting to grate on the nerves. Jan 1st cannot get here fast enough. I would rather listen to my two year old twins YO-GABBA-GABBA Boom Box that Santa brought them for XMas. I have no idea why I clicked either. JHC my effin mind is melting.

Is that this bring T Pryor one step closer to the NFL and us one step closer to having Joe Bauserman line up against us next year. One more QB slot open, and with his twisted sense of logic, probably  thinks his chances of scoring some more $$ are increased.

But someone please explain to me why Carolina would take him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just draft Clausen? I can't see them using the 1st pick on another qb before they really give him a chance by surrounding him w/ some talent.

Peter King is the most self-important reporter in all of sports.  He is all-knowing, never wrong or in doubt, until of course he is wrong, at which point he simply moves on without comment to his next breaking story.

Just like Manny Harris was going to finish out his senior year.  And Jim Harbaugh is just about to sign that extension.  And Pryor is going to give back his Corvette and sit out 5 games.  Then monkeys are going to fly out of my arse.  You dont want to miss that.

It's obvious to me from the posturing on both sides that there will be a work stoppage of some kind next year in the NFL.  It would be pretty stupid to leave early this year.  I"m pretty sure Luck is serious about staying.  Terelle Pryor, on the other hand, will probably leave because his massive ego too often overrides what is probably a fairly decent intellect.

Besides, Luck is playing it clean; Pryor may be afraid of being caught for a lot more violations than the ones the NCAA has found so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't any deal Luck signs before the new CBA comes into effect be null and void and would have to be readjusted in order to come into compliance with the new CBA? I seem to remember reading that when it came to some monster NHL contracts post-lockout.

... I think it's even money that Harbaugh stays at Stanford.

I believe there was a recruiting commitment by JH to Luck to stay there as long he does.  I am sure Luck's father, now the AD at WVU, would have wanted that for his son, who was recruited by Harbaugh after RichRod left WVU for UM.

Perhaps next year they can be a package deal to a better team than the Panthers.

There is some serious man-love going on between Luck and Harbaugh.

So all you Harbaugh fans out there, get ready for the Brady Hoke era.  There may be some serious nostalgia for RichRod about one year from now...

FWIW- Chris Mortensen just mentioned on ESPN radio that San Fran may be a landing spot for JH. At this point these guys are just making stuff up. Cited the fact that he wouldn't have to move very far.
