OT: Luck plans on staying for senior season at Stanford

I'm not going to take the Harbaugh angle; instead, I find it interesting on it's own that a near lock for the #1 pick is going to go back to school for his senior season. Impressive.

"SI's Peter King reported on Football Night in America on NBC Sunday that Stanford QB Andrew Luck's "current plan" is to stay in school rather than leave for the 2011 NFL draft.

King cites Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, who doesn't think Luck will go pro because of his commitment to academics. Should Luck enter the draft, he'd be the consensus favorite to be selected first overall by Carolina. Ultimately, the third-year sophomore's decision may depend on his performance in the Cardinal's December 3 Orange Bowl matchup with Virginia Tech. The Hokies have one of the most talented secondaries in college football."

there's a lot of risk involving coming back to college.  What if he has a career ending injury?  What if he regress?  He's turning down millions of guaranteed money when he could always come back to get a degree later.  It cost Matt Leinart.  It didn't cost Sam Bradford but two shoulder injuries at OU could've cost him dearly.

I could argue that going pro now increases his risk of a career-ending injury in the next year than coming back to college.

If he gets his degree, he'll be marketable for a good job in the workforce regardless of whatever injury he suffers in football.

Let me stop you right there... if I had to do it all over again, I would not pick this career in all reality. Architects are amazingly underpaid and under valued.

If he goes #1, that first contract he signs will be more money than he would make in his entire 50 year career as an Architect.

Leinart only came back because he needed offseason elbow surgery and wasn't going to be able to workout for pro teams (making it much less likely that he would be a top pick).  SC staged the "I love college!" press conference to put a positive spin on things for him but he came back because of the injury and was still a top-10 pick a year later (people just viewed this as a "slip" because he fell behind guys like Bush and Young).

It is spelled HOKEAMANIA.  Our coach is an ass-kicking American citizen, not one of the Beatles, for Christ's sake!

It has an "OT" label.  The post is about college football.....and it doesn't mention anything about a coaching change.  Luck is one of the top 10 players in college football right now.  He's relevant to the game in general.

Would you request a "CC" if the post was about Cam Newton?  Terrelle Pryor?

he never was a 1st rounder to begin with.  I saw a preseason draft board when I came to Cincinnati.  Jake Locker was graded as a 2nd/3rd rounder so he never was a 1st rounder.  McShay is an idiot for thinking that he's a 1st rounder and even NFL people blasted him for filling his head with possibility of being a #1 overall pick.

Whenever a player decides to come back, it's usually because they weren't graded as a 1st rounder by the national scouting service.

I hope it's not the same service that Donovan Warren used last year.

It's all John Navarre's fault.

Still, I bet Snyder would have taken him
