I think it's just a matter of time.

The homer in me says, "If they don't want us, I don't want them.  I'll take the schools that want to be here and appreciate being in the Big Ten.  **** ND."

The pragmatist in me says, "I don't care how they get into the Big Ten.  We all win in the end; higher TV revenue, greater profile, etc.  They belong in the Big Ten, and they'll join eventually."

Pragmatism usually wins for me.

I did hear  a counter argument to the ND  belongs in the B10 - ND is a relatively small private/Catholic university,  whereas OSU, UM, MSU, etc. are all very large public schools.  ND doesn't really fit from that perspective, at least from the ND grad I was listening to.

Either way, at this point I don't care too much if they join or not.    Sooner or later the B10 is going to expand to 16 teams I believe, and ND will be left out in the cold if they don't join;  and I won't exactly be shedding a tear for them if that happens.

Yes, ND would add a lot to the Big Ten, but it just comes off as desperate the way the conference keeps all but begging Notre Dame to join.  If they honestly think their mediocre football team is better off independent, I honestly don't  care that much.  They are just a rival of Michigan's that happens to be in Indiana.

Let them be independent- they will ask the Big Ten to join at some point in the future, but all this bowing and scraping to try to convince the Irish to join up is just pathetic and could wind up in giving them a sweetheart deal rather than entrance as an equal partner in the Big Ten.  I don't want Notre Dame to become the Texas of the Big Ten just because we are desperate for their money and brand.

The Big Ten can launch ahead in revenue and national exposure and wait for Notre Dame to come to them.

"However, two days ago was the first time I've ever said that I think Notre Dame ought to seriously consider joining the Big Ten. Because what I see happening, I see four or five superconferences."

If the last part is true then the ND AD appears to agree, but there isn't even 1 superconference let alone 4 or 5. With the big12ish now stable, the bigten is the most likely candidate to eventually push to a superconference but after adding NU it doesn't sound like it will happen anytime soon.

no not really, and I haven't noticed any split in the fan base over it either.  Though I haven't been to ndnation yet this year so I could be wrong.  Holtz isn't saying anything that hasn't already been said by Swarbrick, so its good to hear what is basically an endorsement of the AD and the school president's stance on it, but its not something I was ever really worried about to begin with.  Cart was about 3 miles ahead of the horse with all the speculation that went on; I didn't think any of it would change ND's status at the time and it hasn't.

Does anyone else see the irony of him naming his kid Skip and taking a job at South Carolina?

(or for that matter, that someone put the letter 'S' in the word lisp?)

Holtz made a similar comment on Rivals Radio today. I like Holtz and can't imagine why he would say this if it was not how he felt, but if he does why wait until the B10 has already taken Nebraska as #12 and conference expansion looks like it is on extended pause? If Holtz had made the comment a month ago, it might have mattered. Now, it seems more like a throw-away. But why make the comment now, even as a throw-away?

I dont know about money wise and all that, but i think it would be good for ND to join Big Ten. A lot of people (not me) pretty much see them as a Big Ten team anyway, they play a lot of our schools, they have more Big 10 rivals than any other non-conference team. I would be excited to see them join.

Lou sees the light. ND dosn't have an edge anymore, Stanford,Navy are not cupcakes. Half a USC roster is still enough to beat them. Losing to MSU when it's a trap game after UM.

They should just join the Big East 100% and be done with it.
