OT: Lorenzo Charles passes away

The man that tipped in the game winning basket for NC St. and caused Jimmy V to run around the court is killed in accident.
Don Diamond, Fred Steiner, and Lorenzo Charles? The MGoBoard seems like it's turned into an obituary column full of obscure and random people. I have literally never heard of any of them in my life. Pretty sure they don't merit a new thread.
The guy hit one of the most famous shots in NCAA basketball history and did it to win a championship against a team that was favored to destroy them. Every March we see it 10,000 times.
Ypsituckyboy - I doubt you meant it to come off this way, but saying, "a persons life does not deserve its own thread", partly because you have not heard of them could be viewed as disrespectful and at the least a little self centered. The sanctity of human life is the most precious thing any of us have.
There are many important things we can rightly judge to not be appropriate for this board. Get off your high horse.
Famine in Africa, like the birth or death of a human being, is a big deal. But I don't post about on MGoBlog because, believe it or not, this is a blog about Michigan sports.
......I never get tired of watching the highlight reel of the 1983 NCAA Championship Game. LOL. Great game, spectacular shot by Charles.
Uh, right, Ypsituckyboy: shame on all those people for dying. Who in the bleep do they think they are, anyway?
AFAIC, every person threaded here deserved a thread. Besides, it's off-season. There are only so many ways to say "I'm excited about this class" or "I'm excited about this season" or "Hoke-a-mania is running wild."
A little bit of respect and compassion go a long way.
I'm just glad that Lorenzo's last name wasn't Snyder or Rosenberg because we know you can't type those names without dropping in your slurs.
He was a good man. Among the best. He will be missed.
He was a good man. Among the best. He will be missed.
My wife rode with him on a bus trip and he introdouced himself as Lorenzo Charles, yes that Lorenzo Charles, The one who hit the shot against Houston in the NCAA championship game. She said he was real nice and talked to anybody who wanted to about sports or whatever. Gone way too soon !!!!!
I can't believe that people are arguing about this thread. You have the choice to read it. The title was pretty self explanatory. This week there was two threads regarding TomVH's "buckle up" tweet. Did it warrant two? Probably not, but we all have the choice to read it or not. When you mention his name it meant nothing to me. Although, if you mention the winning basket in that NC State game I can see it clearly in my mind. Mr. Lorenzo Charles will be forever linked to a trivia question. That's more than most of us can say.
Don't be a living example of the structure in your avatar.
"Wittenberg....(Oh thats a long way.)"
Dunk
History.
Thank you, you will be missed.
At least it has the OT header. but...
I am in favor of letting the newspapers handle this. The community here is centered around Michigan. Lets not confuse the issues. Find a blog/community that really has a lot of info and insight about these great individuals. Talking to some random person on the street about it is not the right way to honor their memory.
If the newspapers handle it then at least they will have a reason to print (obits) and I will have something to wrap things in. Honestly the death of a person not related to M in any way should be discussed with people that are more informed about said person. The comments around this one should give you some idea how much we care (or know) about this subject. K THX BYE!
An American College sports figure, at that. A brief notice was within reason. I, for one, wouldn't have known of his passing or his significance apart from this post. This is exactly the right kind of OT post.
