OT: Looking for a job?

Submitted by RedGreene on
Boeing, Charleston South Carolina, has announced plans to hire up to 5000 people due to the addition of new assembly lines. I have a relative who works in Human Resources and she said they are having trouble finding qualified employees. I know mgoblog probably isn't the place for this type of post, but with the economy the way it is I thought people might like to know. She also said it was announced that a new tire plant is being built (not sure of the name) and the plan is to eventually hire 7000.

I haven't had much luck with Boeing in the past but I'll keep checking their job board over the next couple weeks and see if they post any new entry level engineering jobs. Thanks for the heads up.

The goodrich Aerospace plant down here is hiring due to the plant's increase in business making brakes for the new Airbus super jumbo and the Boeing 7E7. http://www.goodrich.com/portal/site/grcom/JobSearch?GUID=34e55379566bd1… For an aerospace engineering job, don't discount Wright-Patt AFB down here as well. AFRL is hiring due to jobs being moved here as a result of the BRAC decisions. Check out USAJobs.com USAF work isn't bad... bank holidays off, competitive (but not top notch) pay, interesting work.

Wow, why can't the state of michigan be that lucky and have 12000 new jobs open up. I guess things are really that bad here.

Forced unionization state, confiscatory business taxes, political leadership missing from both parties at the state level to make tough decisions on state restructuring which would allow tax reductions... read Daniel Howes in the DetNews to get a perspective on why the State of Michigan is the way it is. I see the same things in Ohio now that I live here but to a slightly less extent.

Charleston is a really, really cool city. Awesome climate, on the ocean, beaches, etc. Not huge, but not rinky-dink small town either. Cool downtown area, some decent bars, LOTS of history. It's one of the oldest cities in the US. The city just has a really cool, interesting vibe to it. If you need a job and are open to relocation, don't write off Charleston just because it's in South Carolina. It's a great place. It's one of a handful of places in the US I'd consider living other than SE Michigan.

I'm not really looking for a job now but I just heard about a sports job website called TheField (http://www.thefieldjobs.com) that seems to always have all kinds of jobs with professional/amateur teams. Looks like they go out and search all the big sites for sports jobs and post them there for you to search kinda like Kayak does for airline flights. Might be worthwhile to someone here

I've always enjoyed Charleston as a weekend getaway location. I would definitely live there if I didn't have to take the S.C. bar exam to work.
