Nick, you can either pay your players or the refs but not both. Choose wisely.

It does pave the way for ND. Our last hope is USC. Fight on.
KSu and Oregon would go before ND and no game for ND is a guarenteed win. What sucks is it's nearly impossible to knock an SEC team out of the top 10.
Miami losing to Virginia today will hurt KSU in the BCS standings. Also, Collin Klein better rise from the dead and play well.
It would also hurt ND. Plus Pitt losing to Unconn this week did some more damage to ND.
It is Oregon/k-state, there won't be a month build up for that, no big 12 title game means note dame jumps kstate. Although I think it is entirely possible Bama gets back in discussion because I think Oregon, kstate, and Norte dame could all lose.
K-State plays Texas the last week of the year and Texas is better than USC. ND won't be jumping K-State without a lose.
If both KState and ND win tonight ill be extremely bummed if ND jumps them in the polls and then rolls on to the NCG.
I doubt ND would jump KSU if they win tonight since a win against Boston College isn't as impressive as a win over TCU. The USC game will be their best chance to jump KSU, especially with Klein healthy and getting a good deal of Heisman buzz.
USC may well have 4 loses by that point in time. K-State gets to play a Texas team that will likely be ranked top 15 buy that point and ahead of USC. There is no chance ND will jump K-State unless they lose.
NO SEC IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!! YESSSS!!!!!! CELEBRATION!
Not if ESPN can do something about it.
I hope this is true.
But two of the other undefeateds (Oregon, ND, KSU) could definitely lose. And you know Bama will get in with 1 loss if that happens.
I think ND will lose to USC. Oregon and KSU look like they will win out. But if they don't we will likely see an SEC team in the NCG again.
That made my weekend. I'm so tired of Alabama and the SEC. Nothing sounds better than ND getting smashed by Oregon in thermal nuclear yellow jerseys.
I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. The guy always looks gloomy, but to see him go from Normal Saban Sourpuss mode to whatever that was… priceless!
I think Saban found his next over signing victim after that play.
That lineman on the punt unit for 'Bama just lost his scholarship.
Scary to think that Georgia and Florida are the next closest SEC teams to the undefeateds... and we can be sure that ESPN and the national media will try to plug them and push them into the NCG. The SEC is not-that-good, ESPN just continues to push them down our throat and insist that one SEC team beating another is justification of how talented the teams are.
Looked like the right call, too. Johnny Football, as much as I hate the nickname, is damn good.
I still get the feeling that Alabama wins out and gets a spot in the NC game, though I'm rooting against it.
I'm not convinced they don't get a bid after the SECCG since neither KSU or ND are capable of playing in a CCG.
I would rather complain about ND trying to jump Kansas St. and Oregon than having another SEC championship! YAY!!!
Will finally have a reason to listen to that show for the wonderful tears this week.
Three quality unbeatens lock the SEC out of the NC game this year. Root for Oregon, K-State, and yes, ND. I would prefer Oregon-ND but K-State-Oregon is also acceptable.
Under no circumstances am I rooting for ND to win out. No, no, no, no, no...
The way I see it, the only team who could beat Oregon this season just lost. Oregon will most likely win it all. But I don't even want to see ND in the MNC at all.
If anyone can pull off a miracle in a one-off game, it is the domers this season. And that is my worse case scenario for this football season, considering Ohio isn't elligible.
USC may rout ND but I am prepared to accept--nay, embrace--the alternative, as long as it means the SEC is out of the NCG for a change. I'd rather the Domers get embarrased on the biggest stage possible but I understand where you are coming from. I would personally prefer three unbeatens to two to eliminate all possibility of further political wrangling supporting certain one-loss teams over others.
Plus the B12 does not have a conference championship game this year which adds to the uncertainty and weakens KSU's resume.
It doesn't , but the Big 12 was very smart in the fact that they have games on championship weekend. K-State plays Texas while ND is sitting at home.
Did you feel that way in '06, that Michigan and Ohio State's resumes were weakened because there was no championship game?
The Big 12 plays a full round robin. Who should KSU have to play twice, and why?
for a NC season? A team that plays a 13th game before the bowl season has more tests in the field to showcase talent, and more opportunities to look weak and foolish. 12-0 would be an impressive feat in today's age of relative parity between power conferences, but 13-0 is a greater resume still, barring massive injuries to key players of course, in which case I as a voter would support a team with a more complete roster.
As for KSU, your final question is moot as 10-team conferences cannot hold championship games. But if I had to pick for 2012, I would pick the top two teams by tiebreaks in the conference (no divisions!).
Big 12 teams play nine conference games; other conferences (except the Pac 12) play eight. If the difference between 13-0 and 12-0 is an extra game against an FCS or Sun Belt team I don't see why that should sway anyone.
That ND will have more of a chance to make it to the NC game. Why Bama, WHYYYYY?
I think if anything Alabama losing will widen the gape between Oregon/K-State in ND. Some voters will rank them 3rd I suspect.
If only I would have signed a couple MORE players, then this never would have happened...
Today we are all Aggies.
Gotta give it to Griese...the man called the upset
destroyed next week you guys.
And god help Auburn after that.
Ah, WCU - my alama mater - of sorts. They are going to get turned into a Jackson Pollack painting. Poor poor Western Carolina Catamounts. I truly feel for them.
Gene Chizik is awful.
Yeah, that sure was a smart move to run Gus Malzahn off wasn't it?
Don't get me wrong I hate nick saban and the crimson tide but this propels notre dame into the mythical national championship game. I wish it wasn't so but notre dame will jump k state. They have a "tougher schedule" and a bigger name so the voters will put them there. I was the only one in the bar cheering for bama just because I don't want to help out the Irish at all....
With Notre Dame really not being too successful in the last half decade before this season, I honestly would rather see them play for a NC than any SEC team(especially Bama). Besides, if they're as overrated as we think they are, Oregon/K-State will shred them on a national stage. At least it'll be a better NCG than last year.
They have to be the surprise team of the year. For essentially their entire existence, they have been also-rans in the Big 12, with fans who think they're God's gift to college football. I thought that they would get steamrolled in the SEC their first few years. Hell, I didn't expect them to walk into Tuscaloossa and leave with most of their body parts... let alone a W. Not bad.
I am really shocked by this. There is no way a team that has cheated to amass a roster such as Bama's current one should lose to anyone who isn't in the "club" of those who think rules are for "little people." I used to think that Saban was one of "those" coaches who won't win a game with his playcalling and strategy, but won't lose one that way, either.
Now, though, I am going to have to change my mind on fifty percent of that opinion. I don't know what Saban was doing on that last Bama drive that made it into the red zone, and I doubt that he did, either. There is no excuse for Bama not scoring on their last drive after they got the ball inside the five.
Sadly, the way everyone votes, Bama will probably get one berth in the "championship" game if any two of the top three after today lose. I can't imagine KSU winning out, and I'm not sure ND has what it takes to beat what will be a fired-up USC team.
I really wouldn't mind seeing ND make it to play Oregon and get beaten by about 50, though.
and that they play Oregon.
But they won't because they'll lose on the road to USC.
That's what everyone said about Stanford and Oklahoma
ND has had some luck, but I think it ends with USC
Its early but Miss St. is up on LSU. Have to think Tex AM will get that second SEC spot in a BCS game. They also helped Louisiana Tech alot. If they win out there is a good chance they will get to the top 16 and be above either the B10 or Big East winner.
At what point along ND's season does our Schadenfreude hit it's zenith?
Loss at BC
Loss vs Wake Forest
Loss at USC
Loss vs. Oregon.
They all sound great to me.
A personal favorite of an angry Nick Saban, if I may...the fly between his hands had no chance, and I am sure the offsides call late in the fourth quarter resulted in yet another needless fatality in the phylum Arthropoda....
Nobody likes Sarah, yaaaaaay.
that their is no college football national title tournament.
The bcs gets it right a lot of the time, a playoff ruins the only great regular season in sports.
I have a strange feeling that bama can still get in. I have a feeling it might be a situation like last year. I sure hope not. I don't want the SEC in the championship. notre dame needs to lose to USC and I will be happy!
My fear with ND is they have an "easy" path to the NC game - beat a somewhat down USC and they are golden (domers). Oregon/KSU have significantly more difficult paths.
KSU has to play Texas at home and then most likely Oklahoma in the B12 championship game.
Oregon has Stanford at home, at Oregon State, and then PAC12 championship game against either USC or UCLA.
The way this season has gone, I can just see KSU derping it up against OK. Oregon getting manballed by Stanford or Oregon St. Then watch FLA win bizarro world SEC championship game against Bama. Then FLA goes to the MNC against ND and lays an egg. Luck o the Irish returns them to glory...
I always feared Bama not making the championship game because if there is one team that would steamroll ND it would be them. Now they are on the outside looking in...
Being independent and not having a conference championship game is a major coup for ND this year in particular.
There's no big 12 champ game. Only 10 teams in the big 12.
There is no big 12 championship game anymore.
There is no Big12 title game. Florida is not in the SEC title game. And the way Florida played today I don't see them beating FSU. I think people may also be surprised how close Bama and ND are in the polls tomorrow.
Is there a Big 12 Championship game?
There is no Big XII Championship Game.
Best scenario is to see an undefeated ND team sitting on the outside watching a K State Oregon NCG. Then ND goes to a BCS Bowl game against SEC Champs Bama only to get smashed. No SEC or Irish in the NCG and smiles for everyone else.
ND is not going to jump someone when they aren't playing and they are not playing in the last week of the regular season. Beating a 2-7 BC team, or a 5-5 WF teams or a 5 loss USC team is not going to make voters change their minds.
I also forgot to mention... ND playing a 2-7 Boston College team in primetime. Show them blowing out an inferior opponent. Couple that with Bama losing.... F'ing perfert storm I'm telling ya... I won't be surprised to see ND #2 in the BCS list tomorrow.
The fact they are playing a 2-7 team makes that basically impossible. plus most of those voters will probably still be in shock over Bama losing and won't be watching ND.
I got home from Ann Arbor and then went to a birthday party. So sadly, I didn't get to see the end of the Bama game. I would have looooooooved to see the expression on Saban's face.
That look on his face said this:
Oh common ref what a BS call! You can't even begin to comprehend how many strings I had to pull and how much whining like a little b**** I had to perform to get into the NC last year! Please don't make me have to do it again! I'll give your son a scholarship and then pull it once he gets moved in on the campus if it'll help change your mind!
Okay okay lots of sarcasm just having fun here.
Saban also stole Hoke's terminology and credited Texas A&M for playing a "Tremendous" ball game.
They are terrible. They've been giving up 20 points to just about anyone who shows up this year
Althought I still don't know why Georgia would be #5
1. ND, Oregon, and KSU win out. ND gets left out of the MNCG. Oregon doesn't end up in the Rose Bowl to embarrass the Big TENNNNN.
2. ND plays an angry Alabama team in a BCS bowl and gets destroyed (is this matchup possible?).
I'd root for that.
and no SEC National Champ.
That look was almost the look on my face when it appeared Alabama might find a way to pull off that game. But the football gods were on our side this weekend.
