What do Tour de France riders do if they have to go during those 120-mile stages? Uh, on second thought, maybe I don't want to know.
The sad thing is that there is no way the winner wins another match. It's hard to doubt them at this point, but realistically, there is no way the winner advances.
You're probably right but if the winner were to win his next match, talk about minerals. These guys are gassed. That would be unreal.
True, but for 2 players that would have never gone down in tennis history otherwise, they now posess so many single game stat records (duration, aces, winners, etc) that it's probably worth it to them.
Called game. I think this is a mistake for Mahut. Just looking at body language there's no way a 6-9 250 pound human is as conditioned at this point in the match. I think with the delay Isner rests up and ends it quickly tomorrow.
My guess is that he realizes he was giving up the advantage in terms of stamina, but he just couldn't see the ball well enough to continue to exploit that advantage. If tennis pros can do one thing exceedingly well, it's strategizing.
Sports history has been made today. People say that about things like the U.S. soccer game (first time we've won our group!), but this is on a totally different level. This match will be remembered forever. Fitting we'll get to see more of it tomorrow.
EDIT: And wikipedia is already on the story - in five different languages!

You would think that Mahut or Isner would be a walkover in the next round but Mahut won a match 24-22 in the qualifying rounds to get to this match... his fitness is absolutely phenomenal
