OT - Lollapalooza tickets on sale now
www.lollapalooza.com - Early Bird and regular passes go on sale today.
No headliners or bands announced yet but they usually put together a good bill even if the headliners aren't so good.
Already got mine!
Anyone else going?
EDIT: Early Bird sold out as of 10:17am CST.
EDIT 2: April 11th is the lineup announcement date.

I would like to go, but I want to wait until they announce the bands. Being an outside festival, is it possible for them to completely run out of tickets?

yes.
Coachella sells out every year from my understanding and I'm not sure how Lolla goes but I know even smaller festivals like Pitchfork festival is already sold out for weekend passes. I wouldn't recommend waiting. Early Bird passes are already sold out. And they've been on sale for 17 minutes as of now.

Lollapalooza sells out annually. Grant Park can get crazy full for an event with the interest Lollapalooza generates. You should be able to find secondary market tickets, but plan on paying an arm and a leg (and it's an expensive festival in the first place).

Thanks, wasn't sure. I went two years ago and bought them well in advance but missed last year so I had no perspective on the selling out issue. I figured it would. Great festival..even if it is pricey.

I don't know how far back it goes, but I know it was sold out in 2007, 2008 and last year. I was looking for tickets on an off-day last year (no Eminem or Lady Gaga, I think) and they were still really pricey.
I think this year I want to find one-day passes, but I'm waiting for the lineups before even thinking about opening my wallet.

I'm with you. Why on earth would I spend money on a concert if I don't know for sure who's going to be playing. Clearly it works for Lollapalooza organizers seeing as they have no trouble selling tickets, but I go more for the performances than the overall festival ambience. That being said, if the rumors from back in February hold any merit, it's gonna be a hell of a lineup. Names mentioned were: Beyonce, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Goyte, Skrillex, Metallica, The Shins, Chromeo, etc.... As tempting as that is (I have a full fledged man crush on Brandon Flowers of the Killers, so whenever they're performing nearby, I'm there), I'll take my chances waiting until 4/11.
If you're referring to the @LollaLeaks twitter account and the resulting Huffington Post article (also from February) the Dude who was posting as @LollaLeaks admitted it was completely fabricated after Perry Ferrell and others called him out on it.

Yes. Lolla sold out last year. I made money selling 2 days of my three day passes
March 27th, 2012 at 11:30 AM ^
Depending on the lineup/day I might be looking for a pass or two.

Nope, just had a baby so we'll have to hold out until next year.

"Ever do the backseat mambo Craigie?
Now I'm going to haul ass to Lollapalooza!"
Too obscure?
From 2006-2010. I don't go anymore, because I think they've been doing a really poor job booking talent. Thanks to the two available weekend of Coachella, I'm finally coughing up the dough to go take it some top tier talent.
No festival will ever be able to sell me on Eminem, Coldplay, Muse, and the Foo Fighters as main attractions.
I guess it all depends on what you go to he festival for. If you're going for awesome headliners yea, Lolla isn't great at it. However I thought '10 was phenomenol and the only headliners I really cared for (or spent much time at) was Arcade Fire and The Strokes. The undercard was very deep and very strong, that's been the case as far as I can remember. I had a much better time 2 of the 3 days seeing the undercard acts (like Gogol Bordello) than the headliners. Arcade Fire was the best headliner for me only because they're one of my favorite bands and I hadn't had an opportunity to see them (they skipped Detroit for seven years).
Its a much bigger investment for us Midwesterners to go to Coachella than it is for Lolla, if the headliners aren't great again, no skin off my back...I'm sure the rest of the card will be stellar.
Because Coachella and Lolla do about the same when it comes to booking, in my opinion. Last years Coachella headliners: Kings of Leon (headlined Lolla 2009), Arcade Fire (headlined lolla 2010), Kanye West (headlined lolla 2009), and the Strokes (headlined Lolla 2010).
I fail to see a significant difference there. Deadmau5 and and My Morning Jacket are pretty damn spectacular from Lolla last year too. And as mentioned above, the line-up top to bottom is generally outstanding.
Booked my ticket this morning.
Anyone know if Nickelback is going to be there?
Also, is T-Pain or Soulja boy going to perform?
They were all assassinated in a drive-by clown shooting
Lolla has so much success every year, and it is so popular that you should be confident enough to go out and buy tickets. They have groups for all music interests, and even if one group dissapoints you another that you may not have expected can pick it up.
I hope they get the high school crowd under control this year. I've gone the past 6 years, and last year was the first that I felt annoyed by the large amount of Chicago high schoolers doing crowd suffering non-stop at one of the venues. I wasn't interested in most of the bands at the stage all three days, but when I was there I felt like I saved someone's neck or back by catching them as they fell to the ground. One of my friends suggested we get VIP passes to avoid it next year, but it is out of my price range as I assume for most people.
Shout out to Mayor Hawthorne who is an AA native that put on one of the best shows last year. I didn't know who he was before the concert, and I went to see him because of his roots. It was well worth it.
I went to see Rage a couple years back and it was absolutely EPIC. The festival sells out for sure, but not until closer to the event itself. I wait until I see if there are any bands I want to pay an arm and a leg to see, then make the call to buy tickets, but that's just me.
yeah, went back in 07 when Pearl Jam headlined and it was amazing. Got to see Modest Mouse, PBJ and a ton of other great bands. it was HOT as balls tho! clear sky and about 95 degrees. Still, amazing time.

From what I hear, it's all about Electric Forest in Michigan.

I haven't really been blown away with the lineups since 2008... The 2007 line up was incredible top to bottom. Started out with The Fratelli's, finished with Pearl Jam with dozens of great performances in between (Electric Six, The Rapture, Daft Punk, The Roots, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Muse, Iggy and the Stooges, Modest Mouse)... If I remember right only Sunday sold out in 2007 because it was Pearl Jam's only official live appearance all year. I really loved the atmosphere in 2007 as well, more so that later years anyway.
2008's lineup with pretty top heavy (Radiohead, NIN, RATM, Kanye West, Wilco) but I had a special place in my heart for a lot of the band further down in the line up. Namely Gnarls Barkley, Bloc Party, The National, Okkervil River, and Battles. Yeasayer put on a pretty great performance too, if I remember right. I spent all of Friday stage-camping for Radiohead so I was on the rail just to the right of the stage for that (house right, Jonny's side).
2010 did a nice job of piling most of the people I wanted to see (The Antlers, The National, MGMT and the Arcade Fire) into one side of the park on the same day. This was another stage-camp and the Arcade Fire's set was by far the best I've seen. Absolutely transcendent. Missed The National (other than a louder bits) to keep the spot, but man... worth it. I wanted to catch The Strokes as well, but it wasn't worth another day's ticket. I hope I catch them sooner or later.
I haven't kept track of the rumor boards this time around so I haven't a clue as to who is or isn't going to be there, but I have my doubts that they'll be able to draw me in this summer. I already have tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers with my family in Grand Rapids, The Shins in Detriot, and Radiohead at the Palace. I've seen Metallica before and don't really feel that big of an obligation to see them again and Beyonce, The Killers, Goyte, Skrillex, and Chromeo just don't have much pull on me. I'd be down for The Killers if they happen to cap a day with The Arctic Monkeys, Cloud Nothings, St.Vincent, Metric and Beach House without more than a conflict (1). Then I might have to get ticks for that day... :P
im going to coachella weekend 1 this year - anyone else?
Wow this kind of sucks. I went in 09 and 10, but the Childish Gambino concert at the Fillmore was reschedule from last night (supersadface) to Aug 3rd. That's the Friday of Lolla right? So I might have to miss either CG or 1/3 of the festival. I'm thinking Bonnaroo this year though.

Looks like you can have your cake and eat it too as CG is playing Lolla.
