I'm in support of option 2
OT: Lock it down, this Sparty's fear sums it up.
God's punishment for not being able to get into Michigan. . .
people like me, who also could not get into Michigan, are not worthy of rooting for Michigan teams because we didn't get into the school? Get over yourself.
Yeah, I'm a little sick of that shit.
Marlon, you okay there? I'm just worried, ya know, because there's no CBS in Bolivian, and I hear you're thinking of buying a plane ticket there.
Using the word retarded to refer to something that is stupid isn't very bright either, smart guy.
You missed the point. Do you have a pathological hatred for Michigan because you didn't get in? No, and good on you for that. The post you responded to was clearly a joke. You might be the one who needs to get over yourself if you get so defensive.
Between your screen name and your defensive response, it appears that you are a little bitter.
I love all of their various "run ins" with comically over-the-top Walmart Wolverines.
You can file every single one of those stories under shitthatneverhappened.jpeg.
I also find it funny how nearly every one of those stories lacks complete self awareness, like...
"If Walmart is so horrible and beneath you, why are you shopping there?"
"What are you doing with your life that you're in the same social circles as a lot of these goons?"
"Why are you having so many of these awkward social interactions where people are randomly coming up to you and talking shit about State? Is there anything you're doing to instigate or spur these situations into happening?"
To be honest, I find a healthy portion of Michigan's fanbase absolutely insufferable. Some people have zero investment in the teams and seem to bathe in the glory when we're winning but quickly turn on the players and the coaching staff when we're not. We have never gone as far as ND did (when they pelted Weis and the team with snowballs) but we sure as hell have come close. Other fanbases see that and we get pissy when they point it out...
To make myself clear, I'm not accusing Michigan's fanbase of being the only fanbase with this problem... but it's definitely an issue. The "walvarine" persona represents a bandwagon fan who did not go to Michigan and has no investment in the team, if you don't think those fans exist and make up a large portion of our fanbase, frankly, you're not being honest with yourself.
"IF McJesus is a legitimate solid big
IF Little Dog is a legit scorer
IF Burke develops
IF Hardaway improves
This will be a good team. And by good, I mean they might actually win a tournament game or two. The returning core of this team played a sadly easy schedule, backed into a share of the B1G title, and lost in the first round of the tourney. And that core, along with a coach who has never been to the elite 8 as far as I remember, is supposed to lead this team to a FF? With a key recruit who is dropping like a rock and didn't start for his own team? The funny thing is, it seems to be the consensus. Real quick, name a player who had a nice year for John Belein and then got better the next year? I just don't see it. I really don't. And those ifs I listed? Not likely. This will be a very untested team who will probably win a bunch of games only to get ran by a better coached team."
Here's a 6 month old post from that thread. Lol
That's the best 100%-wrong-in-hindsight post I've ever read.
Either that post or Damefan1's video prediction about how Denard wouldn't run all over Notre Dame in 2010
That's perfect. Couldn't be further from what actually is happening.
I'm the one who bumped that thread. Yes im a troll and I find it fun.
If they have time to
My MSU friends have been eating crow for weeks. I love it.
Most I know haven't.. every game we keep winning they are trying to find ways to say the refs favored UM in every one.. Specially last night on such a "controversial" call that somehow "decided" the game
How is the 5th place team in the B10 in the NC?!?! Well Sparty, we are a half court shot and a few made free throws from winning the conference so there's that.
Yeah, how stupid can he be? If we don't miss 4 free throws in the final minute to basically hand the last game of the season to Indiana, we are co-champions of the Big Ten. Harping on a 5th place conference team this year to that magnitude only makes you look like a dumbass.
The fourth place team.
Indeed. And for its next act Michigan will be a top-tier program for a long, long time to come.
This is just the beginning. Sparty is gonna have to deal with us for a long time. No more will it just be Ohio and MSU contending for the Big Ten. They'll have us and Indiana to worry about
The best way to troll Sparty is not to be too excited actually. Basketball has been Lil Brother's sport where they were good and now they're suddenly Lil Bro. I had a Spartan coworker come by my desk to talk basketball and i was like "Yeah, yeah, what's his name is really turning the team around and that Gary kid is awesome. Here check out this Youtube video of the Michigan Drill, Kyle Kalis kills this guy!".
Poor Sparty was foaming about the mouth about how the Final Four appearance was wasted on Michigan because we "don't appreciate basketball properly".
Oh my god I haven't laughed this hard in a while. Well played, CRex. Well played indeed.
Every friend I have that goes to MSU said wait till VCU, M can't handle pressure. Then, wait till Kansas, Withey will dominate McGary. Then, wait till Florida, Burke won't be hitting 30 footers again. Then, wait till Syracuse, their zone will suffocate M. Now, I have been told if Louisville plays well, M will lose by 20. Who does M play after they win on Monday?
That Mitch McGary thread is gold. Some of those jokes were actually pretty funny- laughed out loud at a few of them. I get the feeling Mitch isn't going to be too popular in the coming years during Big Ten play....
"Mitch McGary remembers the Alamo"
"It has to be annoying for the rest of the team when McGary's Life Alert goes off every time he hits the floor, but he makes it up to them by letting the team take turns riding his hoveround."
At the one thread where this guy was saying how much of a joke it was that anyone thought Michigan would make the 2013 championship game. That was from 14 months ago
Where the hell did the "Mitch McGary is old" thing come from? And are they whining because he is older and that's somehow cheating? People take prep years all the time, and he's a freshman. It's not like when you have an older kid on a high school team and it seems fishy. Get over it, sparty.
It's especially strange for MSU fans to call attention to McGary being 20 when one of their own players, Adreian Payne, is a 22-year-old junior.
While I certainly enjoy taking pleasure in their misery, I'm going to just shut my mouth until tomorrow night. We still haven't won anything.
But if we manage to pull it out tomorrow, Sparty will go on suicide watch. We'll have taken their one fallback sport where they could claim any form of dominance over us and won it all. They will have nothing to fall back on anymore.
Except we have won something. I get sick of people who say Final Four teams don't win anything, especially Fab Five haters. Bob Knight (an OSU alum who is the basketball Woody) dismissed the Fab Five as having won nothing. While I hope the team wins on Monday night, I'm proud of them regardless. If they lose, it doesn't mean they've won nothing. They certainly have accomplished a great deal, especially since I had my expectations set on a sweet sixteen finish and anything else was gravy. I sure like gravy...
...those six consecutive High Kick Pompon championships?
What did Izzo do?
It's much ado about nothing. During an interview before the game with Syracuse he was asked if he would cheer for Michigan. He basically just said "no" but included some tongue in cheek responses as well. The video is here.
Edit: it is of course possible that inthebluelot was talking about some other comments Izzo made that I am unaware of.
How did this become a thing basically two years ago? There was never this many shit posts here on MGoBlog. What are you? Michigan State's little brother? Drawing your satisfaction from Michigan's acomplishments by the ire it draws out of Michigan State's fan base?
Oh his schadefreude posts that take a sampling of the entire country after a week of football? No, because that's clearly not directed at one team as some sort of way to gain satisfaction from Michigan winning, because aparently Michigan winning simply isn't enough.
Seriously, it's sports. It's fun to mock your rival. Spare me the we are above it crap
You'd have a point if this wasn't a daily occurence.
Look, my tolerance for schadenfreude is fairly low. After a while, it becomes tedious. This little nugget was just so far beyond the median, however, that it deserved its own shout-out.
I mean, how can you not chuckle at this guy? It's like the foreword to an Apocalypse novel. And trust me, I'm spending far, far more time celebrating how much Michigan has accomplished with my fellow fans and alums than I am trolling Sparty's message boards.
Lighten up. Winning is fun no matter what and laughing at your rivals makes it even better.
most alum do not think msu is a rival.
I'm with you. There's a lot of people here who talk about how "obsessed" MSU is with Michigan, but then go to RCMB to see their reactions.
I mean the biggest success for UM basketball in 20 years, and we're worried about what some Sparty brah said about Mitch McGary 6 months ago? Or what they think of us now?
Which school is obsessed with the other?
We're not worried, we're laughing. Besides, there aren't posts everyday on this board about MSU, while there are posts on RCMB everyday about Michigan.
Even I find all of this hilarious
I'm enjoying the first time in my memory (which for Michigan sports goes back about 14 years) that Michigan has done clearly better than Michigan State in all three of the biggest sports (football, basketball, and hockey).
It's possibly more amusing because we can't actually say the best in the state of Michigan at all three sports--our CCHA Tourney run, without the win, doesn't make up for Western's far better regular season.
Just swept them in baseball, too!
What idiots, I'd be rooting for staee if they were in this position.
In fact, I WAS rooting for them when they were in this position back in 2009.
I wonder if they even realize that 1st place thru 5th were separated by 2 wins? Whateva, Sparty's gon Spart.
Or by the flap of a butterfly's wings:
He doesn't hate them, they may hate Him though it seems...
In descending order:
1) where UM fans' diplomas are from
2) results of Michigan sporting events
3) effects of Michigan sporting events on spartan sports
4) praising coaches who are clearly imbalanced as "great leaders of young men"
5) all their Bros seeing them on tv in the student section
6) dog catching a frisbee
7) spartan sports
8) how crazy it was at Munn that one time
For this Michigan fan, except when we are playing them, Sparty is irrelevant. For Sparty, Michigan is always relevant. This is the source and symptom of their bonkers.
One argument being made by a few Sparty posters were that if UM and MSU traded spots in the tournament (MSU switched to 4 seed in the South and UM switched to 3 seed in the Midwest) that there would be no way UM would have made it out of the "tougher" Midwest Region. One of the posters went on to say that if UM played MSU tomorrow that Nix and Payne would make McGary their bitch. I love this logic. If UM beats Louisville tomorrow (the team that beat the shit out of Duke who beat the shit out of Sparty) those tools will probably still be spewing the same "logic."
They seem to be overlooking the fact that in all three rounds that both schools participated in, Michigan played the higher-seeded opponent. We played a #13, #5 and #1 seed in those three rounds while they played a #14, #6 and #2.
Not enough points to make a thread so I will ask my question here... What are the best bars in AA to watch this game. I am looking for the craziest environment that will be walking distance to the huge celebration if they win. (I did not say when because I am extremely superstitious)
When is state going to hang their Sweet Sixteen banner?
I love how they continue to shit all over McGary, calling him McGump, and saying how overrated he is as a player.
It's like, please, keep shitting on the guy as he carries us to a national title.
They are in total denial, and this is why they're little brother.
I haven't heard any bitching or moaning from OSU fans, they're mostly like, "Hey, go B1G!" or, "I really don't care."
Meanwhile, Sparty is on the verge of burning "this whole motherfucker down, Pookie!"
I recall that when Mitch commited to Michigan, there were posts about how they could have had him but Izzo said no to him, and that they were concerned about his grades. This is a recruit that was chosing between Michigan and Duke.
Blasphemy. When has a Spartan ever cared about good grades? Isn't that why they go to MSU in the first place.
Why can't Sparty simply honor the accomplishments of its big brother?
