OT - Little Sam Gordon goes all "Denard" on the rest of the boys in Peewee football.

I searched and didn't see this posted and just wanted to share this little girl's highlight video.

Here is the link to the Huffington Post article

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/07/sam-gordon-girl-football-player...

And the highlight video link in question. My apologies, I can't embed to save my life.

It doesn't surprise me that Peewee football would run zone reads.  Run them "correctly" by leaving the playside end unblocked and reading them?  Maybe not but I see no reason why 8 or 9 year olds couldn't manage the snap and the hand off (or called fake).

There was a 7th grade girl on my son's team this year. And she was very good (you pretty much have to be, if you're going to stick it out as a girl.)

You can manage this in Pee Wee / / Pop Warner leagues, because the weight is approximately the same, and the hits, while hard, are only so hard. Once you are in open leagues (i.e., high school and college,) you are much less likely to see girls playing competitively on the field. But I'm sure it is happening somewhere (girls playing in HS at positions other than kicker.)

This was fun to watch really. It's Pee Wee League, of course, but she seems to be a natural at the game and has great instincts when running with the ball. She was fighting for yards and has pretty sound tackling technique for the age group too. Very cool find, and thanks for sharing, OP.

Does this video remind anyone else of DK mode/big head mode in the original Goldeneye 007 game?

She's getting a ton of yards despite running into a loaded box on every play. I'm not sure I've ever seen a good passing offense at that level, plus I'm sure that opposing coaches are doing everything they can to try and slow her down. Thanks for sharing OP.

Anyone know if there are any girls playing at the D1 level in college? The last I can remember was a kicker for New Mexico in the early 2000's, don't think there has been one sense.

Lisa Simpson: What position have you got for me?
[the kids gasps]
Lisa Simpson: That's right. A girl who wants to play football. How about that?
Ned Flanders: Well, thats super-duper, Lisa. We've already got four girls on the team.
Lisa Simpson: You do?
Ned Flanders: Uh huh. But we'd love to have you on board!
Lisa Simpson: Well... football's not really my thing. After all... what kind of civilized person would play a game with the skin of an innocent pig?
Ned Flanders: Well, actually, Lisa, these balls are synthetic!
Janey Powell: And for every ball you buy, a dollar goes to Amnesty International!
Lisa Simpson: [crying] I've gotta go!

...there was another pee wee football highlight reel from many years ago.  The undersized kid ran for touchdown after touchdown.  He was unstoppable as a pee wee.  One of the greatest pee wee football records in history.

By the time he got to high school, as an undersized and not-incredibly-fast RB, he became ordinary, and barely got any low-level offers.

Who is the kid I am thinking of?  I think he was from California; I can't find the name...

It is a blast to see her run around out there.  Kind of drives home the fact that everyone matures at a different rate, and that gender differences really have less to do with overall athleticism than just the size of men and women as they grow.
