OT: Little League WS.....Mich vs. Ohio on espn right now
Hey everyone, just thought I would put this thread up cause hey, it's Mich v Ohio, so why not. While the Tigers are playing Cleveland, and beating them consistently, I felt a thread was apropos. Hope our Mich. boys can take it!
Naturally, Michigan is red and Ohio is blue (on the ESPN scoreboard). They're both wearing blue shirt jerseys which also makes sense.

Ha..you got me there.
What city are the Michigan boys from?
I think Grosse Point
Specifically, Grosse Pointe Woods, according to ESPN.
For those near a computer but not ESPN, GameChanger has the live updates here - (LINK)
Grosse Pointe draws their little league boundaries weird, so there's three LL divisions for the 5 GPs. If we combined any or all of them the teams would be insanely good, every single boy in the community plays Little League, it's a rite of passage.
I don't think it's all that weird except that, yeah, it does cut down on the success of the area. The size of each LL is pretty impressive. They were three divisions when I was playing 20 years ago and they've doubled in size and participation since then. An all-star team of GPers would be pretty dominant in the state.
This year alone, Grosse Pointe Farms-City came within a tipped line drive catch of beating this Woods-Shores team in districts, and the Park beat Farms-City and I think either beat woods shores once or came close to beating them both times. It's incredibly competitive.

There are 8 teams in two divisions just here in the Park, and that's just for what's called '2nd Season' - 5 weeks of more relaxed baseball, very fun for the kids. Very fun to help coach and watch these kids be kids.
At least you didn't spell it "Gross Pointe"
Just a resident's pet peeve
Never was from Michigan, you should be impressed I even know the town! :)
But yeah, my bad. and now it's just stuck there. Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe .... got it committed to memory now.
Nobody knows how to spell it outside of us who live here. The French people decided to make it all complicated.
This Hamilton OH kid is dealing, and he looks like he might cruise in this game.
Michigan's SWAG DADDY is a 12 y/o and is 6'2, 200lbs? Offer him now!
the town (which is fairly blue-collar and goes by the not-so-nice nickname of Hamiltucky) is a little-league baseball dynasty of sorts.
I must be the only one that doesn't understand the popularity of the LLWS
I'm with you. It's awful.
My son hasn't been interested in it since he was 10. The bats are too hot and the field is too small for modern 12yo.
We go to the beach LLWS week to avoid the the traffic, crowds, and aggravation. This city is not built for traffic.
Now get off my lawn!
If there is anything worse than professional baseball (there aren't many things by the way), it's little league baseball.
It really takes a special kind of prick to go into a thread about things other people like and go out of your way to denigrate it.
+1. If you've ever played little league you'd get the love for LLWS. Imagine being 12-13 y/o on ESPN with opportunities to make SC Top 10 plays? And how awesome it would be to play against some of the best teams in the world.... that's cool stuff.
I used to play little league baseball but then realized how boring that sport is, so I quit.

posting on this thread? If you want to be an a-hole here, just go back to the Freep or Mlive.
I love the Dont Mess with the Mitten shirts the fans are sportin lol
Score?
Michigan - 1 Ohio - 0 Bottom of the third. Michigan batting.
You're asking for a score on a blog that isn't in real time? I bet you could have used Google or ESPN to find the score with the absolute minimum of difficulty.
man you are kind of a dick
He's not kind of a dick. He IS a dick and has been consistently a dick since he joined.
This makes me want to watch Grosse Pointe Blank again!
#thoroughlyunderrated.
Saw it once. Can't watch it again. Not a bad movie, I just get pissed off that it was never actually filmed here, and more or less the only reason for that is that the school superintendent at the time refused permission to use GP South for filming. Grrrr.
So instead of my school taking a starring role in one of the better cultish flicks of the decade, it gets one in Miley Cyrus's shitty teenybopper romance. FFFFFUUUUUU-
at the mess that the film crew left behind. Various things like not returning classrooms to their previous state and left in chaos. And with the movie being so bad it was a pretty awful situation.
Graduated from South in '05, and the whole time I was there I was thinking "John Cusack would have fit in here ten years ago." Now I just cry inside when I think about films there.
Go blue...oh wait
HAIL
BEAT OHIO! Funny how that is appropriate in many instances. I went to Grosse Pointe North so yay Grosse Pointe!
For the Michigan team Jason Hill is a GPN Freshman football coach
A second ago, on the mound the Ohio manager had a team meeting...he said 'listen to me, listen to me, listen to me...we are obviously gunna wawk heem...he's a big son-of-a-buck'
Them, there, Ohio folk...they country
They're off from I-75 between Dayton and Cincinnati (closer to Cincinnati area, but the town is in the middle of nowhere). Nothing but farm in the area

WALK OFF DINGER!!!!!
Walk off...BEAT OHIO!
Walk off home run. I see you Michigan
that felt so much like the Tigers v Indians series so far all week! Still no one out in the inning, didn't need them!
What a great indeed. Walk off homer and Michigan takes down Ohio!!!
Don't get to mad at me. I just watched that whole game between Michigan and Ohio and I must say the walk off was awesome "BUT" I coached a 12 year old all star team in Southern Cali this year and we lost in the Sectionals and my team would have mopped the damn field up w both those teams. District and Section here in So Cal is damn HARD to get by and win that it's a shame we have to beat each other up in our area year in and year out. I was shocked at the drop in talent from those 2 teams to the team I coach and the teams we faced in Sections. But congrats to them and hopefully they continue on.
About how big is the pool of kids that you select your All-star team from? I ask, because I coach in a nearby small district to the mich team and our 12 went pretty far a couple years ago only to run into a couple teams that were much better than us. There is no way with our pool of talent to make it all the way to Williamsport, and if we did, well I would have to agree with you... Unfortunately. So I was just curios if it was mostly a numbers thing or just better players. Or a whole lot of both.
I don't know about Woods-Shores, which is the team that played today, but the Park LL has I think six teams on the top level where the all-star team comes from, each with 11 or 12 players. It's probably similar in each of the Grosse Pointes.
Farms-City typically runs 6-8 teams at the 11-12 year old division depending on the year. Woods-Shores can't be that much bigger
But we have 5 separate little leagues. And I'm telling you that our league has about 2kids total. This includes T Ball, Rookie, Minors and Majors. With about 50 kids to choose from for the 11-12 yr old team. I'm still just shocked at the drop off in talent. Our District Tourney I'm confident in saying that all 5 of the teams in my bracket would if beat those two teams tonight. My team in particular would of mercies both of those teams. I'm just saying this so people understand that the first 2 rounds in a Southern Cali tournament in my area is way harder then anything I've seen on TV. Also the Western Regional here in Sam Bernardino the teams are good but not great. Just saying
Is a GREAT Day!
