OT - Lions vs. Giants Open Thread

Submitted by TheFrigz on

Lions take on the Giants at home today.  Still need a Bears and probably a Packers loss today, so feel free to discuss the Packers game in here too (they're playing the Steelers in GB).

My hopes are very low.  Go Lions though.

has been off in part because he is pressing. His receivers just aren't good enough. He forces the ball in because of that. Titus' implosion and Broyles constant injuries have really hurt the offenses development. That is two second round picks who have failed to develop.

The guys they have on the field at WR are retreads for the most part. Burleson is a #4 at this point in his career, yet he is the Lions #2. Next to CB this is the Lions greatest need. I'd also like to see them add a pass rushing end as well.

like a good point guard.  marino, elway, manning, even brady take mediocre receivers and make them productive.  the lions have the best wr, one of the best receiving rb, a solid (often injured TE), yet that isn't enough.  we need all pros at every skill position, but then it will be the O line's fault.

Oh lovely.  The dreaded punt from the opponent's 40 yard line.  I predict the field position we just gave up gets erased in three plays.

Edit: Boy was i wrong.  Wow.

One of the all-time strange plays in the Steelers/Packers game. Pittsburgh blocked a field goal, picked up the ball, lateraled it, fumbled the lateral, and a Steelers player illegally batted the loose ball out of bounds. It was going to be Pittsburgh's ball on downs, except...

The officials ruled that the Steeler that initially recovered the block had never actually had possession (he lateraled it as soon as he got it and I guess they thought he'd never gotten control), and the penalty when the defense illegally bats a ball is an automatic first down.

First and goal, Green Bay. Play not reviewable because change of possession isn't a reviewable issue and they can't use replay to decide which team was on offense at the time of the bat.

Someday, and I'm only 54 so there's still time, but someday I want to watch a game where there's an unbelievably bullshit call that makes people think the fix was in and have it NOT go against me.  Just once.  I'll bet i've seen somewhere around 78 or 79 such calls in my life and they always, always, always go against the team I want to win.

Congrats Green Bay.  You are Roger Godell's chosen team of destiny and as such will be be helped any way possible to victory.

Philadelphia doesn't need the game--it's winner-take-all against the Cowboys next week for them, no matter what happens tonight--so it isn't even certain they'll play their starters.

Which would be bad--I'm starting McCoy and D. Jackson in a fantasy championship this weekend.

The entire Lions team....added together.....plus the entire coaching staff.....would not get even an average Wonderlic score.  They are easily the dumbest collection of humans assembled to accomplish a task I have ever seen.

At this point it's almost as if this football season was supernaturally designated as being especially painful. This thing of screw ups happening at exactly the wrong time is getting out of control.
