OT: Lions @ Steelers Game Thread
Drops and bad tackling or the score would be reversed.
Yep, the Lions don't look sharp.
Lions playing like crap early on.
Brown is killing us!! Go Fire Up, Chips!
Same fucking thing we always see from this team.
Same bullshit we always see from this franchise. The team didn't come ready to play. So sick of this.
Oh and Gunther Cunningham is terrible.
Uh, it's early in this game and the Lions are in first place in the North.
Will the Lions ever be able to not be perfect without some sky-is-falling nancy saying "Same old Lions"?
We may never know.
There is no reason to have faith in the Lions.
Done what for years? Since 2000, the Lions have only had 5 seasons in which they finished with 6 wins. They already have 6 wins with 7 games to go.
They are decided not doing what they've done for years.
They're also driving to cut the score to 7. Why don't you wait a bit before letting sporting events effect your mood so negatively.
That's entirely against his Detroit sports schtick though. 1st quarter over, the forecast...DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
This team is doing what they always do.
Same Old Lions.
And you're doing what you always do, declare the game is over in the 1st quarter.
The Lions aren't coming back in this one. Oh, sure, they'll make it respectable in the second half, but the Lions are done.
I guess Megatron's gonna have to be Megatron again.
is the one killing us on offense.
Missing 2 sure TD's.
And yea....the defense looks pitiful so far.
Two picks of Dalton in the first quarter by Hayden and we're up 13-0.
WOO Brownies WOO
Nice to see you're still with us. I thought you may have stroked out watching Borges ball yesterday.
Thanks. I went hunting (belong to a deer hunting club near Alpena) so I was enroute back to Cleveland and listened to the first quarter on the radio, and then watched the game via DVR. At least the first OT I did - after that the recording ran out and I had to switch to the internet to find out we won.
You know what's funny and maybe a bit sad? I wasnt upset at what I was watching - I'm just numb to everything that's happening so while I wanted us to win I wasnt all that upset - I fully expected it.
And since I foolishly posted my "woo Browns" post we've thrown a pick that the Bengals converted into a TD and now just had a punt blocked. I KNEW I was sorely tempting the football Gods by actually calling attention to something GOOD happening with Cleveland.
Is your family originally from Ohio? I learned recently that a bunch of Ohio people have second homes on lakes in northeastern mi that have been in their families for generations. They would take a train back and forth.
No. Originally from Pontiac. Went to Cranbrook and then graduated from U of M in 1981. Lived out on the west coast till 87 then got transferred here with work in and lived here ever since. My dad belonged to the club, then my brother and finally me.
BTW...I had a shot at a nice 10 point and MISSED. That kinda sucked.
Not a hunter myself but I will eat a deer. My dad saw 50 does and 7 bucks opening morning but nothing he thought was worth shooting so be happy you could take a shot. He only shoots bucks, though.
Anybody got a link to a solid feed for this. NC doesn't seem to realize that this is an important game.
I'm not sure of the actual numbers, but just based on feeling it sure seems like reggie bush fumbles more than any player in the league thats not a QB
He's definitely a gamer. Hopefully he keeps the fumbles to a minimum and the turnovers to even less.
The Lions just cannot break free from orbiting Planet Mediocrity. Try as they might, Mediocrity's gravitational pull always manages to reel the Lions back in, preventing them from ever reaching that rarified air programs like the Giants and Steelers always seem to reach. They'll be down a few seasons, but then when they bounce back, they reach the top, unfettered by the gravitational pull of Planet Mediocrity that claims our Lions as a satellite.
Dang it, I wondered why the Steelers were 3-6 and now I'm wondering even more. The Lions need to get it together; lots of game time left but they are in danger of getting blown out of this stadium.
Lions are terrible. So much for having the easiest schedule left. Were going to go 2-5 the rest of the way
Who the hell comes out so poorly with so much on the line?
and that's coming from a guy who's about to distroy his 60 inch plasma with the remote...good hold for the FG, still plenty of time left in the game...
I just turned the game. What in the hell is Pittsburgh wearing? I hope to God DB isn't watching.
Hey Calvin you're not that type of receiver, just get in the end zone. Also Doooooom!
Lol, Megatron playing with the DB there at the end...
Doesn't matter, Lions are going to lose anyway
After the Dallas game, I will never put the Lions out of a game unless there's no Megatron on the field or no time left.
THE LIONS ARE CLEARLY TERRIBLE AND THE MOST OVERRATED TEAM IN THE LEAGUE AND WILL FINISH 5-11 THIS YEAR.
That was pretty odd Stafford standing there courageously and all, fearless of the pain moving close to him...
I think the Lions coaches and Michigan's coaches have the same weekly gameday prep routine. Meaning they have none.
Ohhh! Almost had that INT! Let's stop 'em for three, Go Lions!!!
Huge non-play there. Looks like NW's secondary yesterday.
Couldn't help but noticing the Raiders score. Is that THE Matt McGloin going off for 2 TD's in the 1st quarter?!
These are not the same old Lions, imho...
Down by 3....DOOOOOOOOM!
Stafford and the offense just shredded the Steelers.
Pittsburgh better hope for a first down, otherwise they might not still have the lead going into half.
That's what I'm talkin' about....
Tell their defenses not to dress today?
a Devin moment, lucky to not have that ball intercepted...
Hooray for defensive adjustments! Brown was killing us early in the game and Cunningham has changed things up to mostly good effects.
I kinda feel sorry for Ike Taylor. I hope someone gifs all of Calvin's catches with the shot of Ike shaking his head on the bench. Classic.
have been sorely exaggertated...
fuck Needed reggie to get that
Marching down the field to take a halftime lead after being down 14-0 immediately? Same old lions...
Rookie O lineman? They have been a very nice surprise this year.
Too much firepower to count the Lions out. My Browns on the other hand have now had their second punt blocked and are down 8.
Edit: Just fumbled and the Bengals ran it in. 28-13 Bengals. Boy did i put the jinx/whammy on the Browns with my original post. I feel bad.
I am. Watching both games right now (Browns & Lions). I grew up a Lions fan but have lived in Cleveland for over 25 years and been a season ticket holder to the Browns for the last five so I have divided loyalties.
Was very conflicted a few weeks ago when the Lions played the Browns.
Only up by 4 on the road, DOOOOOOOM!
Nice drive. Lions showing some heart!
I really hope the Lions pull this one out. SalvatoreQ may get a game ball personally signed by Jim Schwartz as a heartfelt gift.
Chance to score. I like it.
Same 'ol Steelers, GO LIONS!!!
How is that not holding the end zone?
I think the holding commenced outside of the end zone? That's the only justification I can see.
How dare the announcers talk about the space emperor like that!
Zoltan? They deserve a crappy season.
What a catch!
p.s. I"m not drunk (no actually I am) I'm writing Calbo on purpose; my grandson calls Calvin that.
I'll take the 3 bonus points, but a TD would've nice there. On the flip side, an INT would've been a dagger, and there were two legit INT shots in that last series.
Started out of the gate fronting Pittsburgh 14 points then finished the half on a 27-6 run, not too bad. Let's see if they win the battle of adjustments.
I'd like to propose that SalvatoreQuattro be forbidden from posting in this thread for the rest of the game. Same old Lions huh? The sky is falling!!
Notice how he hasn't posted since the Lions were down like 14?
Helluva punt by Pitt. That thing easily traveled 75 yards in the air .
that was a gynormous...oh wait...oh no, still a good stop by the Lions! Need to get some more points out of this though...
Nice stand by the defense to force the FG, the offense needs to pretend it's the 2nd quarter though.
and suddenly looked up from the computer when I heard the word "Lions" and saw the bumblebee prison jerseys and assumed it was a highlight shot. But no. Wonder what happened to the Philly game? Did the tornado move in from Chicago? Should I close my windows?
Not to say I'm disappointed. Already saw Avant make a nice catch and Brandon Graham get a sack along with encouraging word that the coaches are seeing progress after his switching to linebacker, and don't get to see the Lions often out here except on Thanksgiving.
Yuck, kick the FG Schwartz.
Wow. That sucked.
Yeah. I think the fumble was irrelevant. Needed 5 yards, and I don't think he would've gotten it.
No catches for Megatron in the 2nd half. No wonder they're stalling.
Like the call
that was along way to go for the first down, especially with that kicker. The steelers are really backed up, though...
The D has been VERY good today, although they should have a couple INTs.
I hate the Steelers. It's even easier to hate them with Bell as their RB.
It would be really swell if the vaunted Detroit pass rush actually....I dunno...got a FREAKING PASS RUSH please
I absolutely hate this broadcasting duo. Billick just loves to hear himself talk.
you take the damn FG and go up a TD on the road. Coaching fail just like Hoke yesterday not grabbing the tie.
Lions gave the Steelers (a HORRIBLE team this year) life they didn't otherwise have.
Well , looks like the Lions better get their head out of their ass.
we got the Steelers right where we want them!
on the cleat selection? We're literally skating all over the field.
Good job, Lions. Let a crappy team go 90+ yards in a driving rain storm.
Their inability to put games away on offense continously puts them in a position to have to pull out wins.
Good teams would have put this game already.
Oh and Gunther Cunningham sucks. He makes Al Borges look good.
Oh just shut up.
You're so awesome. I vote that you run the Lions.
Ahh now you show up.
. How can you not be incensed by this? This game ought to have been theirs. Yet, they are going to blow it because of terrible defense and questionable decisions.
The Lions are infinitely more infuriating than Michigan, Funk, and Borges.
You're right they should have this game, but it's hard for me to take anything you say seriously when you were claiming the game was over in the first quarter.
You're so rational when it comes to Michigan football, yet you're all doom and gloom and about any Detroit sports team. Honestly it feels like you have to distinct posting personalities on Saturdays as opposed to Sunday's.
Michigan doesn't have the legacy of blowin games like the Lions do. Yeah, there are some ugly games, but not to the extent the Lions have.
And the Steelers score again. Fuck this team.
The Lions drive everyone insane, that's a cop out for your Mr. Hyde like behavior in any Lions game thread.
When a team you root for continuously fails it gets to you. The Lions are doing the same things they have done since, oh, 1957. It's gets real old.
It's a bit of a cop out considering how flat out ridiculous you were in the 1st quarter, then not posting until we start to lose again puts on the veil of just trolling.
His deal is you're a troll. You show up only when things go bad and insufferably yell "told you so, they suck."
Nobody cares about your opinion, as you've proven to be a dolt.
to be as insightful as a sack of potatoes.
Now you'll disappear again when the Lions drive down and score the winning TD.
This shouldn't even be necessary. The Lions offense, like they did versus the Cardinals, went asleep in the 2nd half.If they sustained or even did half of what they did in the 1st half this game would be over.
This is a mediocre football team that is benefitting from injuries to the Packers and Bears. No pass rush from the end spot and horrid tackling in the secondary, inconsistency on offense...this team just isn't where it needs to be in Year 5.
Fire Schwartz and Mayhew.
Was it over when...oh, the Animal House meme is over used but it ain't over!!!
Until there's no time left , the game is open. They need to remember that Megatron is good, though.
with all the drops, man.
What a bunch of chumps.
You're the best poster on MGoBlog! Yay!
Ross dropsies ruined that drive.
the damn ball hit him right in the numbers. Also, the ND running back dropped the one before it.
Damn you, Lions.
...assuming we can't recover. Horrible decision that gave a DEAD Steeler team a pulse.
Also, can't be all that hard to cover Heath Miller. Hasn't happened YET.
That probably seals it.
As big a choke job in the second half I've seen in a long time by the Lions. That fake FG attempt Was beyond stupid. Why Why Why put the ball in the hands of a 175lb punter who has no expirence carrying the ball? What could go wrong there
very wrong; to hope that guy could take a shot and hold on to the ball was pretty risky...
We just made Roethlisberger look good. And that's hard to do.
the game is still on the coaches for the fake FG. The whole picture changed and we fired up the home team instead of squashing them, and upping the pressure.
Not over yet, but this wasn't a "gimme" win by any sense. You knew Pittsburgh was going to play better than their record and they were at home. The sky is not falling.
A mediocre team that hasn't made significant strides in three years on defense. Gunther Cunningham is a terrible DC. His DBs have been awful since he got here.
Not falling, but a terrible loss.
Terrible because of the FG decision = ok.
Terrible becaues of the opponent = not really. This wasn't anything near a unanimous "detroit" pick.
Worst 6-4 team in the NFL.
Gunther Cunningham is an appallingly bad DC. He needs to go.
You may be the worst poster on this blog. People like you are making this place unreadable.
You make the internet nearly unbearable.
Seriously, do you read the ingame posts or the posts during the week? Michigan has given its fars FAR LESS reason to do ANGAR! than the Lions have.
These are professionals doing this sort of crap. A person has better reason to be pissed about this than what college kids are doing or not doing.
Your just a dumbass fan that wants to complain. They are still 1st in the divisor dipshit
It would be nice if the receivers would catch the ball. Other than Calvin, anyway
CATCH...THE...FUCKING...BALL. Story of the game...Lion receiver fail.
It's a major need in the offseason. At least two are needed.Ross, Broyles(IR), Ogletree, Durham, Riddick...these are not good players. Burleson is a #3 at best in this stage of his career.
I have come to the conclusion thaat catching a pass thrown my Mathew Stafford might actually be THE HARDEST THING TO DO ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
I'm not kidding. Based on how well the Lions recievers hang on to the damn ball catching it must be the MOST DIFFICULT THING ANY HUMAN HAS EVER ATTEMPTED.
Unless your name is Calvin Johnson. They've forgotten he exists this half, though.
Seriously, just chuck it up for Calvin. Worst play calling in the 2nd half.
see you all in the UM ISU game...
if you told me schwartz won some sort of madden tournament to get his job i'd believe it. he's got a fan's mentality coaching an nfl team. if he could strip 60% of his emotion, he'd probably be a good coach. too bad that wont happen till he gets fired.
turning down 2 field goals is the story of the game, imo.
to and the Lions could not move it when they needed to. This is a 8-8, 9-7 football team that has made some strides, but still has a long ways to go in other. For starters, they need overhaul the defensive staff. Cunningham is garbage. He needs to go.
Secondly, they WR corps needs to be addressed. This is the number one need on the team right now. They have no one outside of CJ. They need a Marquis Lee or Allen Robinson as well as another veteran receiver. Ross, Ogletree, Riddick, Durham...these guys are forgettable players. They have no other receiver other than Megatron.
I wonder if they'd target someone like Jared Abbridaris, he seems like a guy that could fall to the 3rd or 4th round and just has that look of a solid #2 WR.
Marquis Lee would be a perfect complement to Megatron. Abbrederis is a superb player, but I see him more as a number 3. Not overly fast or big(6'2, 4.6) but great hands. and good athleticism. I could see the Lions drafting, but not as a #2. Ideally you want an #2 who can also take over a game or at least threaten the coverage deep. Anyways, since teams run so much three wides now he would still catch 60-70 balls a year.
I like the idea, but not for a #2. I think the Lions wll have to cut Broyles and most of their current WRs. Broyles is injuty prone and the rest are just not good enough.
In year five. Does that say more about him or the Lions?
I should have known better.
But they're not nearly as bad as those Pitt unis. Those things are ludicrous.
Secondary is horrible as is the pass rush, and linehan is just as bad as borges in regards to not doing wehat works,,,you put 27 pts up in one qtr..than stop going downfield the rest of the game.....the lions defense is bad..any of hose corners on another decent nfl team is a nickel,,houston has lost a step also....I don't know who is worse linehan or gunther
