Glad it finally happened, it was a long time coming.
OT: Lions release Titus Young
Laughable that it took the organization this long.
Honestly, I was hoping that they were waiting to see if they could get anything for him in a trade. Even if we moved up a spot in the 4th round, it would would be better than just cutting him.
That the Lions had to wait till after the Superbowl to cut him... Now should they have earlier in the year? Absolutely. But after his twitter blowup, they had to wait till after.
...the sky is blue.
He was a cancer in the organization.
It's the Lions. They have cancer, TB, heart disease, diabetes, ringworm, yaws, elephantiasis, leprosy, and they are owned by a zombie.
Other than that, they have a lot of potential.
Good, he was being a dick.
The only annoying thing about this is that this is exactly what he wanted. I hate when people get what they want by being total assholes.
I hate that too, but the next team that signs him, wont put up with any of his nonsense. He burnt up any freebies he had.
Also, his next contract won't come close to amount that he could be worth. He's just not a smart person.
I don't know the details of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, but could the Lions have just continued his suspension until his contract ran out? He plainly wasn't fulfilling the terms of his contract.
Solid 2nd round pick.
Seriously is there any sort of background/personality testing before drafting down in Allen Park?
IIRC, Mayhew had a hand in picking every single one of those guys.
It's about time!
Don't let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.
And so the great tradition of Lions WRs is continued
this is the second high pick of a wr, the other being fat mike williams, who deliberately sandbagged, to get out of detroit..... i guess they prefer the warmth.. but the funny thing is, those who stay end up loving living in michigan.
Think there's a big WR signing this offseason for the Lions? There's a few good ones out there right now
Aren't the Lions obligated to pay him since he was released rather than traded?
doesn't have guaranteed contracts so the Lions own him nothing. I just wish they would have let this turd squirm some more before getting rid of him.
Pennywise? The fucking clown from It plays for the Lions? Figures...he preys on your nightmares.
The only survivors of the 2011 draft are now Fairley and LeShoure....that's just sad.
light on one up to that?
yet another wasted pick by the lions......
Good talent but could never get it together.
Flash will be your huckleberry
He was a future hall of famer...all he needed was the ball and a chance!
I mean, come on.....it's not like the Lions had ever wasted high draft picks on bad character WRs bef - errrrr....I mean it's not like there were any red flags around Titus Young when he was at Boise Sta - ummmmmm......that is to say, it's not as if the Lions were really short on true positions of need like DB at the time Young was draf - errrrrr......hmmmmmm.....
You know on second thought, I'm pretty sure the Lions fucked it up again.
Was excited about the pick or about 3 seconds until his interview during the draft when I realized, this guy is a huge douche.
I would peg Titus for a more nefarious line of work than pizza boy...
Lions took less of a cap hit by waiting so it's not laughable it is smart business.
re: a wasted pick. He should have been able to split the field and open things up for their passing game (for the Lions), but his attitude is something we do not need more of. Glad they got rid of him.
Hope they grab up a CB, a CB, a S, an OL, an OL and repeat, this offseason.
Um it was wasted. He did way more harm than good for the lions.
I think I agree, but you are speaking in retrospect. During the draft, it was not a bad pick to compliment Megatron.
Doesn't matter how the pick was during the draft it matters what the player does on the field and he failed which means the lions failed on drafting him.
my own words, and it appears I did not explain myself fully, but I disagree. It was not a bad pick in the sense that it was a bad idea/move to take him. He did not pan out, which is a failure on the Lions' part, but I do not see how taking him on draft day was a bad idea.
He had the potential to stretch the field for Calvin and the entire offense. Spreading out the defense is always a good thing.
But we could really use some depth now at the position, so probably have to use a draft pick on it which isn't terrible, but I really wanted bulk up on the defensive side in the draft.
Titus: grow up and appreciate open doors or they'll close right in your MF face.
hopefully the first of many cuts,,,doubt it but hopeful, considering were over 4 million over the cap.
now they need to cut Raiola ( 6 mill) , KVB ( 10 mill this season due to restructuring - 5 mil cap hit ), Peterman ( 2.64 mill ), and Backus ( 7.8 Mill )
and not resign any free agents off their roster other than Durham, Bell, Muhlbach and Houston.
Nobody else worth the money
Take your beatdowns this year, and end this cap hell so were set to do some free agency damage in 2014.. I would try to move up all of the bonus money on stafford also to 2013. Take your beatdowns in 2013, to have a ton of cap room in 2014 and so on.
this team will be lucky to go 4-12 in 2013..
let me say this also,Mayhew ( what have you done besides no brainers like Mega, Stafford and Suh ---Nothing ) , Schwartz ( no composure ), Linehan ( how about a fullback or an H Back and horrible play caller ) and Cunningham ( the wide 9 especially ) all need to go.
It is about time they finally established an internal scouting department ( thus why Brian Xanders was brought in ). No wonder our scouting has sucked the last 20 so on years.
On a postive, they are putting new turf at Ford Field, probably to embrace all the times Raiola will be flat on his back in 2013...
So, you're saying they're on the right track, got it...
This is definitely good news that was a long time coming, but I still can't help but think that the long delay still sends a less-than-ideal message about the Lions and discipline, even if they finally doled some out in Young's case. However, as rosters were unfrozen today, this was the next possible day per NFL rules, I believe.
It seems like this leaves the Lions back where they were when it comes to WRs about two years ago basically, in need of someone who get yards when everyone is distracted by Calvin. I would be interested to know if they don't fill this position via free agency rather than the draft. I would think it is fair, from a business standpoint, to put this one on Lions' management for the mishandling of resources (e.g., draft picks and money).
Can not draft at all. Injuries are everywhere on this team. Do guys not show up to the weight room? I have a hard time with players taking jim seriously.
Does it seem like the Lions have bad more than their fair share of injuries since they moved to Ford Field? I know they're part of the game but man it seems we ALWAYS have a ton of major injuries...
fall camp to let him go.
Burelson and Broyles coming off injuries, what round are we going to draft a WR? What round is Tavon Austin projected to go in? He could sure as hell help out the return game as well.
Matt Mullen hired Mayhew. Enough said!!
"...a second-round pick in 2011 with obvious talent and significant maturity issues."
It would have been surprising if the Lions didn't draft somebody with significant maturity issues. It's what they do. If Stevie Wonder had been in charge of player personnel the last 40 years he wouldn't have done any worse.
I guess they needed another reason to draft a wide receiver in the first round.
Attempted to buy a fuck-lion.
The store refused the sale.
Said the Lions had been fucked too much already.
