OT- Lions to release Nate Burleson

Submitted by turtleboy on

Title says it all.

Great guy, good player, sad to see him go. Looks like the coaching change, and possibly the time off due to his car accident meant we weren't going to be spending the money on him at his age. If he had stayed healthy he would've caught near 1,000 yards last season, and might've had his contract renegotiated. I think he has a year or two left in him at a lower salary, I just wish it was in Detroit.

Love these moves.

Burleson: The Lions are in desperate need of positive veteran leadership. Burleson was the antithesis of that. Offering yourself up as the media spokesperson for the team does not make you a leader. It makes you a loud mouth. His attitude and team leadership skills (or lack thereof) have a direct relationship with Detroit being one of the most penalized teams in the NFL. The Lions can get the same production (or better) across from CJ with many other receivers in the league for cheaper. Plus, they don't have to put up with his "talk first" attitude. The only thing that worries me is how Detroit is going to live without Burleson's first down celebrations. God only knows they need more of that kind of crap on the team.

Delmas: Often injured and a rare sight on the practice field, Delmas is another Lion with more talk than game. Frankly, I'd MUCH rather have a safety who is known as a good tackler rather than a big hitter. He won't be missed...unless you like to watch the Detroit D give up big plays.

The Lions are the most undisciplined football team I've ever seen. By shedding these contracts and the negative leadership of these players, Detroit is on its way to maximizing the talent they currently have. I didn't expect much out of the new coaching staff, but, if this is any indication of what's coming - maybe...just maybe...things are looking up.

Can the Lions possibly get Jeremy Gallon?  That'd be awesome all the way around, which, now that I think about it, probably means there is no way they'll get him.  *sigh*
