OT--Lions in the Pro Bowl
Didn't see this on the board, and apologies if it is.
Two Lions, Calvin Johnson and Suh, are starters in the Pro Bowl. It's nice to see these guys didn't get snubbed for being Lions, but it's pretty hard to make a case that these two shouldn't be starting in the Pro Bowl. Congratulations are definitely in order, I think.

this should have been about former Wolverines in the Pro Bowl
congrats to Woodson and Brady. apologies to anyone i missed on my quick cursory look.

I love seeing them included as well, don't get me wrong. Added the OT tag because I suck.

And a Mr. Jake E. Long
December 28th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
knew i probably missed one but it's been such a long work day...
December 28th, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
it was way more important to get that post up super-quick than to finish checking out the pro bowl roster.
i kid.
December 29th, 2010 at 8:19 AM ^
i checked the roster 4-5 times and couldn't find a name other than those 2 in it and then failed to make a thread (about 2 hrs before this one) simply bc it would have taken too much effort?
December 28th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Woodley didn't make it?
December 28th, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
He did not. The outside linebackers that made it were Harrison + Wake and the backup was Suggs. I think he probably shouldve made the backup role over Suggs but even though I love Woodley its really hard to argue for Woodley over Harrison + Wake.

Suh-Perb!
December 28th, 2010 at 9:41 PM ^
The beauty of the draft: the Lions can obtain freaks of nature like Johnson and Suh.
December 29th, 2010 at 1:04 AM ^
We can also obtain freaks of nature like Charles Rogers and Joey Harrington
Just Sayin'

They are both absolute beasts who I hope can remain Lions their careers.
Now if we could just get Stafford to stay healthy we will really be cooking with gas!
December 28th, 2010 at 11:56 PM ^
He could be the best player ever but it doesn't matter because he never plays.
December 29th, 2010 at 12:36 AM ^
Am I the only person who thinks that Shaun Hill is better than Stafford? I've always felt Stafford was too inaccurate to be a great qb.
December 29th, 2010 at 2:50 AM ^
yes, you really might be.
December 29th, 2010 at 2:54 AM ^
You may be the only person that thinks that. Although Shaun Hill isn't too terrible, Stafford has looked like the clear starter when healthy. In the beginning of the season he looked crisp and made some spectacular throws. I'd be happy with him as the quarterback, but I doubt he will ever become a serious starter due to injury concerns. The team has some nice pieces now in Suh (along with the entire D-Line), CJ, Best, and the TEs, but the quarterback position needs to be resolved. I hope they draft a qb semi-early in the next draft.

I'm not writing off Stafford until they get a decent O-Line. Now if he keeps getting hurt behind a decent O-Line then we have problems.

the Lions OL are top 10 in pass protection. They have been great especially when you consider that they have a backup QB and 3rd string QB playing behind center.
December 29th, 2010 at 8:43 AM ^
Have u been smoking w derrel Johnson-koulianios? Cause it looks like you were at the time when you posted it.
December 28th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
When was the last time the Lions had two in the ProBowl? Herman Moore and Barry Sanders?
December 28th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
Through a cursory search it looks like 2004
Dre Bly and Eddie Drummond.
Edit: The last time for Moore/Sanders was 1997
December 28th, 2010 at 9:54 PM ^
Including Laurence Timmons (MLB), Casey Hampton (NT), and our man LaMarr Woodley (OLB).
Tell me how what's going to go down as the third-best rushing defense in the history of the NFL only sends two players to the Pro Bowl.
EDIT: I'm not taking away from the Lions, guys. Suh and CJ are beasts and I love watching them play and win the Lions games. If only Stafford could stay healthy...
December 29th, 2010 at 6:36 AM ^
There are a lot of great players defensive players in the AFC.
December 28th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Both very deserving. They both have played very, very well this year.
December 28th, 2010 at 10:04 PM ^
This will be their only probowl for a while considering the Lions are going to the next 3 Super Bowls at least
December 28th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
Gotta love it! ROAR.
Bring back the Silver Rush!
December 28th, 2010 at 10:43 PM ^
This team healthy may have given the Bears a run for their money with regards to the division, or at least I tell myself.

How did Logan Mankins make the pro bowl when he was a hold out for half the season?
December 28th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
I believe you misread. "Logan Mankins' beard" was actually the one selected.
December 28th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Also I recognize your picture. Album cover?
December 29th, 2010 at 3:58 AM ^
Damn good cd btw
January 3rd, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
Yup that's what I thought, I was just making sure. That album kicks ass. BTW, my response is late because I was in Jacksonville with no computer and just got back.
December 28th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
should've made it to the Pro Bowl. Dude has been good this season. He's playing better than Jordan Gross and Chad Clifton. No, it's not me being a homer.
Stefan Logan got snubbed. He's top 5 in the NFL in both KR and PR.
December 28th, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
Top 5 in both KR and PR isn't enough to unseat Devin Hester in the year he breaks the all-time record for return TDs. No other return man affects field position by his mere presence every time he's back for a return the way Hester does.
December 29th, 2010 at 2:34 AM ^
I agree he's played well but let's not forget that he let peppers by and stafford got hurt in game one because of it...
December 29th, 2010 at 8:41 AM ^
Backus gave up 3 sacks all season long. 2 of it weren't his fault because Stanton held onto the ball too long. He has been exceptional this season. Too bad his reputation precedes him.
December 28th, 2010 at 11:05 PM ^
Make it fun to watch the Lions again. Well deserved.
December 28th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
This lions franchise is headed full steam ahead in the right direction and it is great to see two guys starting in the pro bowl. Mostly happy for Calvin because he's deserved a spot on the pro bowl in years past
December 28th, 2010 at 11:39 PM ^
They're a much better team than their record suggests. Definitely going in the right direction. I mean, we're in a time where "next year is the year" could become a reality soon(we were sadly mistaken many times before). Big hopes for the future, and Suh and Johnson are big parts of that.
December 28th, 2010 at 11:28 PM ^
Also cool to see a rookie from Montana (Mark Mariani) make it...
December 28th, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
Maybe if Stafford stays healthy he'll make it there someday wearing Lions blue and grey
December 29th, 2010 at 9:26 AM ^
I like how there just playing football now. No West Coast O/Tampa 2 D. No Run and Shoot just hard nose football. If they could just keep Stafford healthy they will be dangerous in a few years…Finnally. Now tear off that fucking roof on that dome.
December 29th, 2010 at 9:58 AM ^
I liked the offense and the lions had a lot of success running this offense. In 93 or was it 92(?), the lions were in a rare company of having a 3000 yard passer, 2 1000 yard receivers and a 1000 yard rb. Wayne Fontes famously said when the offense is disbanded, the lions are scoring too fast. lol. Former Hawaii and current smu coach, June Jones was the oc for the lions at the time
