Woooo, Can't wait for this game. Hopefully it isn't close, I'm not sure I can handle much more after this Tigs game.
OT: Lions MNF Open Thread
Harbaugh beats the Lions next week! Go Niners!
Is he really hating?
This is a Michigan site, not a Lions site. So there's going to be people who cheer for just about every franchise on here, and a lot of them will hate on the lions. So you can't overreact too much to that. If this was a Lions board (or someone hating on michigan sports) then that would be more understandable.
Wow buddy, I come to this site for the love I have for Michigan, not for the Lions. I absolutely respect what the Lions are doing, its great for football and what the niners are doing as well. I was only trying to make a funny with Harbaugh and his past when being a Wolverine. Im sure most Lion fans would love to see Harbaugh be successful, except for this Sunday.
So, maybe we can be friends again??? We have a big game Saturday!!
I don't wish ill will on Harbaugh, but I'm not exactly pulling for him. I just have a bit of a hard time with the jabs he took at Bo, the football program, and Michigan while the head coach of Stanford. Left a sour taste in my mouth, so much so that I wasn't really sure I wanted him as our next coach. Did anyone else feel the same way?
You're not much for being smart are you?
Fantasy football needs above all else!
I'm glad I've already won this week. B/c I have the Bears D. Score at will Megatron!
Are you doing on this thread right now when the Tigers are in a nail biter!? Get over to the ALCS thread (...or else you hate grandma's chocolate cake and Amurrrrica)!!!!
And trying to prevent a heart attack.
But this thread will still be here when the baseball game is over (if it even ends...can't take much more unless it ends up in a win).
because I am an avid supporter of the Bears and have no interest in Tigers baseball.
YOU'RE not even posting in that thread now...
He had that murderous look in his eye on ESPN's coverage. I like that from a DT.
I'm honestly shocked out O-Line is doing so well. I keep fearing a collapse in that area.
That intro was pretty bad. Barry's a beast tho!
I am stuck at work... anyone know where I can find a live feed of the game?
ESPN3 carry it? Or is the NFL holding online feeds till after midnight?
I'm sure there is some way to get it through ESPN, however I don't know Calvin College's provider so I can't use it.
Looks like the crowd is already making a difference.
Yeah, it's loud.
great start for the d.
Anyone find it weird that Calvin is doing an Acura commercial?
He's well loved here but yeah, it would be nice for it to be Buick or something.
Now the crowd is doing Seven Nation Army. Nice.
Yeah. That and after the 2 minutes of the hawkeyes @ PSU this week that I watched, I never want to hear it in the big house. I'd rather hear "the final countdown".
7 Nation Army at Ford Field?
Seven Nation Army everywhere. Doesn't matter what you turn on it seems the song is played.
Make it stop. Fergodsakes. Make it stop.
I hope the refs know they don't have to throw a flag on every play.
Is NOT the crew from the Michigan/Northwestern game
Anyone find it weird that not a single play has gone without being whistled dead?
At this rate, I'll watch the fourth quarter tomorrow morning.
Detroit's line is absolutely owning the Chicago offensive line.
Also, Nick Fairly sighting.
Let us play some damn football refs...shit.
The lack of flow to this game is maddening.
That is an absolutely abysmal call.
From the Northwestern game?
These guys seem to at least know what those yellow cloth things do.
I guess the only way that the Bears can gain yards down the field is through penalties. Geez!
At least you can't score on a penatly.
Cutler played soccer during the offseason I see.
I am just a step too slow tonight.
To be a great soccer player.
This is the most cobbled up start to a game ever!
With this D, they could go a long way this year!
Did I notice VandenBosch wearing blood-red contact lenses?! Awesome!
And regardless of your affiliation, I've never seen a game start as poorly as this.
on my end ... just IMO ;)
10 penalties already? This is crazy
Where did the nickname Megatron come from?
I mean.... look at him.... did you see that graphic?
That's very surprising considering Randy Moss/Jerry Rice.
He's more of a physical specimen than Rice, who was a better receiver. Moss was faster but Calvin is a good bit stronger.
I mean compare Calvin, physically, to Lebron James. Lebron is slightly crazier but it's pretty close.
Oh, sorry, you were talking about the Sports Science piece. I was talking about the 9 TDs in first six games.
Jerry has 8 TDs through his first six games...
Then had 14 TDs the next 6. The bar has been set, Megatron.
"Fellow teammate Roy Williams nicknamed Johnson "Megatron", due to his large hands being similar to that of the towering Decepticon."
Roy Williams gave him that name. It is the one positive part of Roy Williams' Detroit legacy.
And Megatron transforms the game. Now we're cooking with gas!
How the hell do you defend that guy? Merriweather launches to tackle him and CJ gives him the Hoke point and says, "NO."
That's why the Pats dropped him. He leads with the helmet, and whiffs on so many tackles.
Megatron is like Randy Moss with strength, TO with more speed.....
Is that you coach Jackson?!
Fuck....Fairley got held there on that pass to Sanzenbacher.
What's with Cutler's goofy footwork out of under-center? I've never seen a QB run straight backwards in a pass drop - usually they are running sidewaysish.
Most of it is stemming from the pressure. He's got less than 2 seconds most of the time to get rid of it.
The hardest part about being a Bears fan tonight isn't watching you guys crush us, it's having to root for Sanzenbacher.
I was thinking about that during the whole "Rooting for OSU b/c of the different divisions" argument. I thought to myself: "I'm so glad that I don't have to root for OSU players in the NFL" Let's keep this up.
I wonder if it helps that Tom Lewand is a Michigan guy.
Dad is from Chicago, and I don't have the hate that I have for, say, the Bulls, or even Blackhawks, but I think I'd have the hardest time rooting for Cutler.
And whoever turned all-time classic Soldier's Field into something from Close Encounters.
I have a hard time rooting for Cutler.
is that everytime a Lions player makes a tackle he has to flex his arms. HURR DURR, I HAZ MUSSLES, LOOK AT ME LOL
Would be impresses by the ability to flex their arms...
would be endowed with the ability to spell correctly...
I honestly don't expect Quitler to finish this game. He just might die and Suh, Fairley, Williams, and Hill will eat his body where it lies.
defense I have seen since the great D's of old. They will seriously hurt you and potentially ruin another teams season because of it!
But they play with a nastiness I love.
does john gruden think every player is amazing? maybe, its just me.
Both him and Jaws love everyone, especially quarterbacks. "What a great play by Stafford overthrowing Burleson/Megatron!"
"yeah, i dont know if he actually overthrew burleson...he kind of stoped his feet, you can't see it on the replay" lmao, Monday night crew is pretty solid though.
In all fairness, both of those passes were within garage distance of the receiver.
John Gruden thinks ever player is amazing.
John Gruden and Fred Jackson were childhood buddies.
All these flags are really killing me. I just want to see some clean football.
Delmas completely blew that play.
Fire up those Lions through electronic osmosis!
Cutler was solid on this drive. Go Bears!
The big 2nd half comeback again!
CFL stats DO NOT COMPARE to NFL football! You can't compare Favre and Marino to such people!
Bad job ESPN, bad.
Sorry fellow M fans. And as far as the earlier discussion about Cutler's footwork, it is as somebody said earlier, the result of him having less than 3 seconds every time he drops back...because you know the offensive line wasn't an issue last year.
Would kiss Suzy Kolber these days.
When did she turn 50?
That was terrible!
The majority of the force went to the shoulder but the crown of his helmet did strike the side of Scheffler's helmet from what I could see. Don't know that it should be a penalty.
Anyone else reminded of the glory days of Scott Mitchell. In all seriousness Stafford is looking like the real deal.
How many damn lives does Cutler have?
He's playing out of his mind.
That PlayStation commercial was awesome. To Michael!
Good vision, good speed, someone missed an assignment pretty badly there.
I imagine a Picture Page DERP!
Holy crap! Best can fly when he gets into the open. Not quite Chris Johnson fast, but I be like dang!
That was the Best play of the night. :p
He ver' fast.
Schwarz' little fist pump move kinda makes me giggle, but gosh I love seeing it.
Honest question: Is it "Schwartz' or is it "Schwartz's ? I would have used the latter but I have no clue which is correct.
Eric Wright had great coverage right there!!! If he can just put it all together and keep his mind from wandering the way it does at times. The sky could be the limit for him. Just needs to keep up his confidence and stuff. The whole mental thing.
Does anyone remember the last time a reverse worked at the pro level? Linebackers are just too smart and fast at this level.
It might've been an end-around, but DeSean Jackson had a long one last season I believe.
see that corntoolio with the makeshift "bad news bears" sign scribbled on a piece of construction paper? He needs to take that Denard jersey off pronto.
Leave the leg down and you get roughed there!
He's getting no help whatsoever from the rest of his team with the possible exception of Forte.
I am scared the Lions are going to try and run the ball to close out the game.
EDIT: Aha ha ha ha on me.
Really wish the Lions would have taken a shot in the endzone there. Rush up the middle accomplished nothing. An incomplete pass and FG would have taken the clock past the 2 minute warning, so I am not sure why they didn't take the shot to ice the ballgame. Poor decision, IMO.
I thought the same thing. Go for the kill shot. Still, I'm not complaining too much when we get the W. :)
Wasn't the line like Lions -5 in this game?
man, looking at the Lions schedule they could easily be 10 -0 heading intot hte Packers game on Thanksgiving. That's freakin crazy. Of course the schedule gets pretty tough at that point with 5 of the last 6 teams they face being pretty good and all. But if they can at least split them that's 13-3, not too shabby.
I like the idea, but I'm not going to book it just yet. The Niners are a darned good football team this year, and Atlanta didn't roll over against the Pack either. I'm content to keep taking it one week at a time and enjoy the process.
Best really showed out tonight. These guys really look like a dangerous team. And what better way to make a statement than on MNF? The rest of the NFL...you've been warned. On a side note, who would have thought that San Fran vs Detroit would be a potential game of the week?
Could Best be developing into one of the elite backs in the league? I always thought of him as too small, a transition guy until they draft someone better, but he looked unreal tonight. Ran with authority.
Best is a multipurpose back like Faulk was in New England. He is not a 20 carry a game RB. That was why they drafted Leshoure. But he can be deadly situationally as we saw tonight.
This game showed he can run through giant holes with no linebackers in them and pick up a ton of yards when he gets to the second level completely untouched. Aside from 2 runs for 131 yds, he was 10 for 32.
Generally speaking, the Lions OL needs to do better at run blocking, IMO.
Best is fast, but he's not bulling his way to a lot of yards.
That long TD run was a great example of scheming to create space, though. If you can get the LB to run out of the hole, you don't have to block him.
(RIP, Macho Man)
I'm glad we play them at home but it will be a tough win, if we do win. Jim has this team playing well.
I can't wait until Michigan D-Line becomes as dominate as the Lions!
we talkin bout dem lions!
We're never losing again
I was at the game last night. You may touch me, but not below the waist unless you fall into a demographic that's rare around here. Rarely has a football game been as much of good times as when the Bears false-started three times on their first drive. My God was that crazy. Hell, the Tigers were on the screen and the place was going crazy when Cabrera and Avila turned the double play to end the ninth and that was a solid hour before kickoff. I couldn't hear Michael Buffer at all. All offseason last year I'd been toying with the idea of getting season tickets and when this game was announced, that pushed me over the edge. The game and atmosphere did not disappoint. Everyone went nuts for the anthem, Michael Buffer, the MNF crew, Barry, Nick Fairley's debut, every false start penalty, every big play, the clock ticking down.....man. Anyone who says Boston and Dallas and Chicago or what the hell ever is the best sports town in the country has not been to Detroit. It's true what they say: ain't no party like a Detroit party.
beat up on the Bears (I live in Chicago) last night............
