OT- Lester signs with Cubs
Per everywhere, Jon Lester has signed with the Cubs. 6 years, 155 Million. Now the Offseason can begin in earnest.
Mothers, raise your sons to be Left handed pitchers.

I don't think he's going to get that amount. But if we sign him, we're stuck with 6 SPs so one of those pitchers would have to go. I wouldn't be surprised if any of them outside of Verlander, and that contract, are traded.

I would rather keep Price and get the two first round picks for Scherzer. At this point(with the Cabrera and Verlander deals) it's too risky for the Tigers to sign him to a long-term contract.

Not really. Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, Javy Baez, Jorge Soler on top of Rizzo and Castro. Joe Maddon managing. They have offensive potential no one else has and are starting to shore up their rotation. Jake Arrieta put up King Felix numbers last season on top of that. They will be good in the near future.

If Lester only got 155 for 6 years, no way Scherzer gets 200. He'd neet to get at least 8 years for that and I don't see any team making that kind of move for Mad Max.

no number is too obscene for Boras--who as usual is really representing himself. Reality will kick in--but Max will likely see marginally more than Lester.

Those numbers don't surprise me considering who his agent is. The Lester signing should help the Tigers avoid bidding against themselves again for a free agent. They know what Max won't accept (anything less than $150mil) and Max knows what is unrealistic (anything in the ballpark of $200mil).

This Red Sox fan had some hope.
Thanks Lester for the rings.

Baseball has lost its mind with the kinds of salaries they're paying players.

Which somehow correlates to how TV has lost its mind with the kind of money they're paying MLB.

And everyone in Boston thought he was coming back. Cubs look like they might be competitive this year.

I suppose Wilbon will be even more insufferable now. I didn't think that even possible after he discoved the Blackhawks.
