OT: Les Miles rips Gunner Kiel
Les has some balls on and off the field:

... he's a complete douche, but in a likeable kinda way. He really is mad (as in crazy).
Maybe he accidentally ate a little bit of the wrong kinda grass before that press conference.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:59 PM ^
I actually think it helps if you just think of him as a cartoon character.
February 2nd, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
When Les went to Michigan he once got in a fight with a guy at a party or something like that, but anyways he bit the guys ear off Mike Tyson style, and then he was dubbed the nickname Hester the Molester and it stuck with him through college. The guy is straight nuts.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
I'm pretty sure they cut it to make Les look bad. I'm sure he was using that to pump up the excitement for their QB commit, Jeremy Liggins who might be JaMarcus Russell 2.0. But whatever. Not really surprising from a SEC coach.
Edit: Apparently, you can't embed ESPN on this site or you need to do something different from Youtube videos...
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:19 PM ^
will move Jeremy Liggins to DL. His arm is mediocre at best. He's a freak athlete who can run for a guy in his size. He'll be a typical DT who has been converted from different position and becomes a beast at interior line.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
Ya can't reel them all in, Les. I know you have your whole bayou bengal brand thing going on, but the kid loves Indiana and Domers. He's not biting on your beignets...
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:13 PM ^
Off topic, but beignets are delicious.
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:15 PM ^
Agreed. And the Les Miles thing surprises me. Crazy, yes. But a douchebag? I didn't see that one coming.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
I don't know what promises Gunner made to Miles - it's possible he pinkie swore and Miles really takes that seriously, but even so - Miles is at the top of his profession. How can a coach, who spends a couple hours a week giving non-answer to reporters, just get pissed off enough to rip a kid for no reason.
This isn't Gundy ripping a reporter. He looked a bit silly there, but I see why he did it. Miles just looks like a child here.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
Les Miles has forfeited the right to rip recruits for as long as he lives.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:10 PM ^
And after watching the way he managed his QBs in the MNC game, he has definitely forfeited the right to rip QB prospects for not going there.
Edit: Although now that I think about it, Brian Kelly doesn't seem much more desirable from a QB perspective. Gunner Kiel knows how to pick em.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:28 PM ^
Stay classy Les.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:32 PM ^
Gunner Kiel and Jordan Payton are sort of the perfect examples of "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." If a kid commits somewhere, I feel that coach has a reasonable expectation that the kid isn't going to go back on his promise. But if a kid plays footsie with one school for a year (Oklahoma), then commits to someone else (Indiana), and then you convince them to break their word and come to your school (LSU), you cannot act surprised and aggrieved when they do the same thing to you and sign somewhere else (ND). You knew the kind of individual you were dealing with.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:52 PM ^
This analogy may be off, but:
It's kind of like the really hot girl with great breasts (i.e. 4.3 forty) that starts hooking up with you despite the fact that she has a boyfriend. Once the boyfriend finds out, he dumps her. Then after some more heavy petting and whatnot between you and the girl you make it Facebook official. Then she cheats on you. You mean it is kind of like that?
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
So Gunner Kiel has big boobs? I thought he didn't have the chest to lead a program?
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:44 PM ^
Wow. Well done. I lolled.
February 2nd, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
Very nice work. Very nice.
February 2nd, 2012 at 9:40 PM ^
4.3 forty. Sounds like some bodacious breasts.
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
To be fair, isn't part of the reason he changed from Oklahoma to Indiana because Kevin Wilson went from being Oklahoma's OC to Indiana's HC? Sounds like a reasonable enough reason for that first switch, at least.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:32 PM ^
- so thankful he's not coaching at M
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:19 PM ^
never really wanted Miles as coach. He's basically a low-class person who can coach pretty well.
February 2nd, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
LM is an awesome coach. There is no question about it. He is just too scatter brained for us. MSC and DB would be face-palm 24/7. The guy just doesn't quit.
What an @ss to say this about a high school senior. If I was Gunner's dad I would meet LM in the parking lot.
LM has a right to his opinion. He even has the right to speak his opinion. But why in public? Say this behind closed doors. Nice job Less
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
This is completely classless. I can understand his frustration at losing a commit, but making passive agressive negative comments about an 18 year old kid (which he knows full well will end up on the internet) is ridiculous. The reference to Gundy is a good contrast, because the kind of ripping that Les did is exactly the sort against which Gundy was defending his player. I never say this, but I hope Kiel plays them in a bowl game (a non-BCS, oddly-named-because-of-random-sponsor bowl) and "leads his program" over LSU. Glad we didn't get him. Hoke Uber Alles.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Agreed, but I can never root for Notre Dame in any context whatsoever. I wouldn't care if Notre Dame lost every single game it played. To hell with Notre Dame.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:55 PM ^
Yeah, I understand your point, but in no way can I cheer for ND, especially in a bowl game (regardless of how low the bowl is).
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
Stuff like this is just embarrassing.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:37 PM ^
like this!?! No Way! So glad to have a guy at the helm with CLASS! Go Blue!
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
Given the coach's rather, um, spotty history with medical redshirts and oversigning -- remember the poor recruit who signed, only to be informed that LSU had given away his spot -- Les has got a lot of nerve pulling shit like this.
Foolishly, I was among those who wanted M to hire Les. Now I'm embarrassed to admit it. The guy is pure SEC. Lots of skill. No integrity.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:46 PM ^
I took it more as Miles pandering to his base. It seemed like a strange pep rally in a way. Maybe trying to instill an LSU vs the world mentality with this class.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
Les reminds me of a buddy of mine's wife. She doesnt trust him at ALL when he's on the road and constantly accuses him of cheating on her.
Why you ask? Because he met her when he was married to his first wife and cheated with her! So now that he's her husband she knows what he's capable of and doesnt like it at all. I guess it's not as much fun when the tables turn Les now is it.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:03 PM ^
People tend to view things from a personal viewpoint to begin with. Add in some unsavory behavior and everything is clouded. I hope they enjoy him down there. It seemed to me as if there was a recent attempt to repair the Miles brand hereabouts. Imagine this press conference being held in A2 and count your blessings.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
I know a similar situation. If he does cheat, she won't deserve much sympathy.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:57 PM ^
Yes, a coach that takes away a kid's scholarship after he's already moved into the fucking dorm has the temerity to rip on a kid for not honoring a commitment.
Thank god this piece of shit isn't our coach.
February 2nd, 2012 at 2:59 PM ^
I wonder how Les would react if someone publicly questioned his son's heart?
Ironically, here's the last sentence on Les' wikipedia page
Miles is involved in churches with his family and has described himself as a "strong Christian.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:16 PM ^
Strong/Good Christian does not always equal Good Person. There are plenty of child molesters, rapists, murders, thieves and just general a-holes that go to church every Sunday.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
It could mean that he is both physically strong (or strong in some other way) and also a Christian, with the two being completely unconnected.
February 2nd, 2012 at 6:51 PM ^
tenets of Christ. Anyone can go to church. It takes someone of real faith to live life as Christ preached. Deeds, not words determine who is authentically moral and who is not.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:48 PM ^
He's a "damn strong Christian"
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:00 PM ^
douche baggery and if I'm not mistaken also a NCAA no-no.
February 2nd, 2012 at 5:48 PM ^
How is it an NCAA no-no?
February 2nd, 2012 at 7:10 PM ^
But isn't it against the rules for coaches to talk publicly about players before they commit or after they commit elsewhere? Apologies if I'm wrong.
February 2nd, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Isn't that only when they are possible recruits? Once Gunner enrolled with ND, he's not a possible recruit anymore, is he?
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:01 PM ^
Sort of like agreeing to be our HC the 1st time around Les?
Thank god he stayed at LSU, people are correct..he is just fracking crazy.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:04 PM ^
I lost all respect for him after he cut that QB; refused to speak to him face-to-face, than told the media in a press conference that he left the team on his own because he didn't have the desire to be a team player or the work ethic they wanted.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:04 PM ^
what a douche
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:13 PM ^
I don't ever want that guy coaching for Michigan.
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:23 PM ^
Down the road in the national eye, hoke > les. Being a dbag can only take you so far
February 2nd, 2012 at 3:25 PM ^
was seeming like his time as coach was coming to the end, I proclaimed to all my fellow M fans that the coach HAD to be Les.
Years of hindsight later, I am thoroughly embarrassed by this. I had no idea he was such a two-faced douche bag.
Thank God we hired RR (despite how that went - not trying to argue about that in this thread) and in the end got the man we all now know is the right one to lead our student athletes.
So glad to have Hoke.
Funny how things work sometimes.
I'll never root for ND, but I'm with that other guy... if ND ever plays LSU, I hope Kiel puts up huge #s against them.
February 2nd, 2012 at 4:30 PM ^
And into the future if he got the job.
I'm so glad he's not our coach. I'll take everything we suffered over that.
February 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 PM ^
I could not have said it any better.
