OT- LeBron calls Braylon 'childish'

I know the story got broke early today about Braylon allegedly hitting a club owner this morning outside a Cleveland nightclub. Seems like LeBron doesn't take too kindly to Braylon's actions.

Braylon seems to be somewhat high-maintenance in the Detroit tradition (Webber, Rose, et al.). Obviously LeBron has that tendency, too. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the Court of Public Opinion (for what that's worth).

I've never met Braylon personally, but know a handful of folks who have hung out with him. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to just sock some dude in the face for no reason. I'm curious about the details.

I also don't get the "Braylon is jealous" angle from Lebron. Both guys are multi-millionaire pro athletes so I don't get what Braylon would have to be jealous about. Did Lebron intimidate him by showing off those fancy high school championship rings he has?

Off the top of my head, and this is largely due to being in the ESPN spotlight 24/7, but thems the circumstances:

-The aforementioned confiscation of a tape of him being dunked on, ordered directly by LeBron.

-Being willing to leave Cleveland for Europe for cash. No one said that was a particularly mature move by Beckham when he did the almost exact same thing.

-Refusing to shake hands at the end of the series, then refusing to apologize for it.

-Not understanding what Darfur is, which like, come on, that is cause celeb numero uno these days. While you could say, "He's an athlete, he doesn't have to know that," I'd just say he's a dumbass.

Not saying I wouldn't do it either, but just trying to point out that LeBron needs to consider what his words are after some of his actions. In that way, going to Europe, where the competition is markedly worse isn't exactly the sign of someone who wants to be the number one player in the world or anything.

It's probably, at best, tangentially related to the whole childish idea, but I'm seeing a connection there. I understand if others don't.

How is lebron the last person to call some childish? LeBron is the best player in the league and pretty much is a good role model. Braylon has done nothing in his career.

What is the big deal of calling him childish? Just because someone famous says something bad about a Wolverine, doesn't mean the person is a bad person.

about either Kobe or Lebron, but Lebron is definitely the
bigger star and more dominant player.

The Lakers are esentially an all star team like the Celts are (when healthy) and the Cavs are basically a one man show with a piss poor coach to boot.

You are being quite definitive when even most experts can't say who is better. The fact that LeBron gets better stats is in large part because of the fact he has less talent around him. Put Kobe on the cavs and see what he does when everyone gives him the rock every play. I would think he blows LeBrons stats out of the water. Put LeBron on the Lakers and yeah, he'll win a champoinship like Kobe, but his numbers wouldn't be as nice.

The fact that someone is a "bigger star" or "most sought after free agent" doesn't mean they are a better player. IME Kobe is the better player at this point and that has nothing to do with the fact that he has championship rings for most of his fingers.

(In LeBron's situation, not the worst thing or stupidest decision by any means, but it makes him pretty much the opposite of a good role model for many communities that struggle with single parenthood everyday. I'm also channeling a 65 year old, silent majority-type, man.)

He's been pretty childish his entire career. He once called out his own teammate for a hard hit on an opposing WR. He also never has taken responsibility for all his dropped passes.

He will likely get a fresh start elsewhere next season, so maybe things will change. Bit given his track record, this incident isn't all that surprising.

For a team with an enforcer like Urlacher, it would probably be best for him. But he and Winslow were running the roost in Cleveland, with no leadership from the head coach and no veteran presence to keep him in line. Not the best situation for him.

What I know for a fact Lebron has done is resurface every park basketball court in the city of Akron. He replaces the rims on hoops that ignorant mother fucking assholes rip down to put on the side of their house. He pays to cover spray paint also. AND he gives a fuck ton of bicycles away to HIS charity event once a year. He hosts a basketball camp and signs every autograph.

My point is if you want to call him childish or what ever go ahead, but when you talk about his flaws you damn well should weigh them out with the positives and you will see that they are in favor of the positives. And yes that was a run-on sentence

Not shaking hands after a loss IS childish, it doesn;t matter how many basketball courts he fixed.

There is no denying that not shaking hands was wrong, unsportsmanline, and childish. But to say that "it doesn't matter how many courts he fixed" implies that

- Him shaking hands is MORE important than him hosting Thanksgiving dinner for 1000 people (he did this both in Akron and Cleveland) and giving them all gift cards to grocery stores and public transit vouchers?

- Him shaking hands is more important than him rebuilding city parks in Cleveland and Akron (which includes resurfacing courts)?

- Him shaking hands is more important than giving hundred of bikes away to impoverished children?

Look - I know how rich he is. I know that he can afford it. But sorry - him helping thousands of people a year, no matter how "easy" it is for him to do it is more than I, and I'm sure you do every year, and it's INFITINELY more consequential than whether he shakes Kobe Bryant's hand.

Your post borders on the pathalogical.

I didn't say that was more important but you can take from my post whatever you wish.

Also, lending context to a situation is far more important than you are making out in your post which makes it border on pathalogical IME.

A thanksgiving dinner for 1000 people probably cost $20,000.00 at $20 a head which is probably over pricing it. Let's say he bought 1000 bicycles at $100.00 a pop to total $100,000.00. Let's say he resurfaced and fixed 100 basketball courts at $2000.00 a piece (which again is more than likely a very gross over-estimation) you get $200,000.00. That is a grand total of $320,000.00 or 3 days worth of his annual income. Peanuts!

While I am at it, don't presume to guess how much I do for my community. As a Doctor I take part in many free health clinics put on in my community and also help in fundraising etc for our hospital and local charities. I have been to numerous Third World countries while working with Doctors Without Boarders as well. So while he may do a lot more in the realm of charity work than you, it doesn't mean he does more than everyone.

I will conclude by saying that given the context that I have added to your post, many people give (in a combination of their time and money) more than 3 days out of the year to charity and don't get near the recognition LeBron gets.

All that being said, I still didn't imply that not shaking hands negates what he has done, the same as his charity work doesn't negate the fact that not shaking hands is childish.

Let's take off the Maize and Blue colored specs for a second here. I loved Braylon as a player, too, but let's go to the tape:

He has an unknown disciplinary problem, leading Lloyd to sit down and talk to him. This leads to him joining the track team to stay focused in the offseason.

After the draft, he whines about not being picked first or second and makes claims that he was promised by the teams ahead of Cleveland that they'd take him.

After a horrible season last year, so bad he lost his endorsements, he decided to pull all of his charitable activities out of Cleveland because the fans booed him.

Is it at all possible that he's a bit childish? LeBron might be, too, that's fine. But let's not act like it's Saint Braylon who does nothing wrong ever.

When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing. -- Bo Schembechler
