On that forum they are talking about which school will go after Mike Leach. This is a forum about who Texas Tech should target.

HE'S CRAIG JAMES, B!TCH!

I was just thinking June Jones would be a good choice. Skip Holtz would be another good choice.

from Baylor. A former assistant for Texas Tech. Other choice, Kevin Sumerlin (sp) from Houston.

A lot of support is brewing for Kevin Sumlin...

He has a nice contract at Baylor that includes a 3 Mil buyout. TT Alums I know say TT won't play that for him when they can get Sumerlin much cheaper...

..that nobody with a very high profile would want to go there without an ironclad, non-negotiable buyout if they are suddenly terminated for BS like this.
When you treat coaches like crap, the rest of the "fraternity" takes notice. Unless the truth is a lot different than the video of the alleged "shed" and "electrical closet" makes it appear, Tech deserves to have its program go into the dumper for a long time.

I agree, coaches have to treat these players with kid-gloves now days.

If you can't handle big 12 D-1 football, go play intramurals brotha!

But that's too bad. I always rooted for them, it was fun having an underdog with a little bit of bite in the Big XII.

I mean, who cares?
December 30th, 2009 at 3:52 PM ^
Is it just me or does this whole situation seem a little overblown compared to the allegations of Leavitt assaulting a player?
December 30th, 2009 at 4:04 PM ^
Is Mangino still looking for work? I bet the James family would love that hire.
December 30th, 2009 at 4:09 PM ^
If they do hire Sumerlin and he brings his coaching staff they would immediately be put in the race for Jackson Jeffcoat. As his dad is on the Houston staff as a D-line coach, I believe.

Sonny Dykes, the current Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach for Arizona - he used to be on Leach's staff. I wouldn't be surprised if he took the job (if offered).
December 30th, 2009 at 4:42 PM ^
Texas Tech continuously lowballed Leach and seemed content with treating him badly. They deserve 7-win seasons as a result for a good while.

I see only three possibilities for the Tech job (in order of likelihood):
1. Sonny Dykes (Arizona OC) - Son of former Tech football coach Spike Dykes. He was an OC at Texas Tech under Leach, and has had reasonably good run at Arizona. According to this twitter account, he is willingly to go to Tech and bring a good defensive coordinator with him. http://twitter.com/ChrisLevel
2. Art Briles (Baylor Head Coach) - Used to coach at Tech as well. Proved himself at Houston and is trying to do the same at Baylor. Might be too expensive at 1.8 million, but he supposedly has a clause in his contract that will let him leave for one school: Texas Tech.
3. Dana Holgorsen (Houston OC) - They don't want Sumlin out of Houston. He has Texas A&M ties, not Texas Tech. They want Holgorsen who is also an ex-Tech OC. He molded Graham Harrell into what he was, and has done a great job with Case Keenum at Houston.
They won't go after June Jones for two reasons. One, he is way too expensive (2 million at SMU, and Leach had a standoff to get 1.75 million after last year). Two, while the offenses seem similar, they aren't. They both pass a lot, but the roles of the quarterback and the wide receivers differ greatly.
I would also say no to Skip Holtz because he doesn't have any recruiting ties to Texas, and his style is too different from what Tech currently is.
