OT: The last OT Friday Open Thread of the OT Season

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Well, we made it. This time a week from now there will be College Football to discuss. Tomorrow (or sunday, or whatever) starts Game Week.

As such, here is the last Friday Open Thread and I'm getting it started early. What was the best memory of your summer? What 1 play would make you happiest going into the season? Best new beer you tried this summer? Favorite Tailgate food?

And the big question that's a little more on topic:

Where will you be watching Michigan Football in 7 days and change??? (MGoShoe Countdown goes here)

a) Thank you for your service. We salute you.

b) Who could we speak to about sending a series of sorties about 30 feet above Alabama's hotel next friday night at half-hour intervals, starting around 1:00 a.m.?

It's my pleasure to serve.  To tell you the truth, I can't beleive they pay me to land planes on carriers.  I probably can't buzz the hotel, but I'm working on a flyover at Michigan Stadium sometime this year or next year.

 Don’t think you'll have a problem. Every carrier I’ve been on has had AFRTS broadcasting the big games, so you should get to watch it. Only question is time. Where ever you are located at the time the game is broadcast, so you may be watching in early morning. I rememer watching a couple of super bowls at 4 or 5am.

He's married.

/s

I don't think he's been picked up by any teams yet, but he still appears to have some football left in him. He's done another youtube video that was funny and he's done a lot of media appearences here in Chicago (Radio, TV, etc), he could be a network sports guy or ESPN Chicago host someday, he's good at it. But I think he still wants to play for a bit, he had a good year last year, the Bears let him go due to drafting a DT and not wanting to pay him his whole salary. He might still be able to help the Bears, but they're going the way they're going I guess

 I envy you, in regards to the game; I am STILL trying to figure that out. Family obligations will have me up in the northern California wilderness halfway between Redding and Eureka, Ca. In a real out of the way valley, surrounded by mountains and national forests called The Trinity Alps. The ultimate “dead-zone” for miles and even includes tv/radio. Only satellite works, which I don’t have access. The only hope I have is a small bar in a place called Hyampom. However, the indigenous population is mostly “football is too violent” ex-hippies, or other people wanting to avoid society, most try to live as much off the grid as possible, alternative energy, own generators, etc. To make matters worse this bar is having a Labor Day open-to-all music night starting at 6:30pm pdt, (9:30pm edt).

 What do you think are my chances of talking these locals into watching a UM college football game?? May be buying lots of “rounds” to buy them off! Wish me luck!

The first time I watched gangnam style;

Denard scoring the winning touchdown against Alabama;

The Hairy Eyeball, Lagunitas Brewery;

Bacon-wrapped brats;

Dallas, Texas.

Last Friday at work for two weeks -- I'll be at Gerald R. Ford International Airport a week from this exact time, checking my bags en route to Dallas for the game.

Best summer memory?  Lame - but smoking cigars on various patios on Friday evenings.  This summer has been outstanding for patio sitting.  Otherwise, seeing Darius Rucker was pretty awesome.

Best tailgate food?  Anything with buffalo (wings, pasta, chicken, etc.) sauce

Best new beer?  Short's India Spruce Pilsner

One play that would make me happiest going into the season?  Norfleet returning a kick or punt for six against Bama.

  • Either seeing Bob Dylan or celebrating two years with the girlfriend.
  • The Robinson to Roundtree fourteen second TD play against Illinois 2010.
  • Best new beer for me? Jinx Proof by Three Floyds.
  • A dip using ground venison, Velveeta, Manwich and jalapenos.
  • This one side of my couch that extends forward like a chaise lounge. I'll have food in front of me, beer in the minifridge under the TV, the game on the (kind of) big screen and surround sound hooked up to my iPod for music during pregame/commercials/halftime. Hopefully my playlist will not change and I'll be happy the whole way through.

I've heard his arthritis has made his concerts somewhat depressing.

I saw Clapton 2 years ago and he was absolutely amazing. Roger Daltry (the Who) opened for him and Daltry was good as well. This was right after the superbowl and I wasn't expecting much from the Who's lead man, but he was good. I think he can handle DTE Energy, but not a full football stadium anymore.

Like, best night of the summer high, so I hope I don't end up disappointed. It's been a dream of mine to see him before the Never Ending Tour finally ended.

I'll find somewhere to post my reactions either tonight or tomorrow, depending how everything goes. If I had my way, I'd be gearing up for tailgating already.

I am really looking forward to this season. It should be a tough one, but if we can get a few breaks we could have a heck of a season.

I will be at home watching (and hopefully not yelling) at the TV in my living room.

Summer memory:  Sipping cold beer on a beautiful evening on a pristine U.P. lake.

Play:   Ondre Pipkins man-handling the OSU offensive line to bust up a Braxton Miller read-option, causing a fumble, and rumbling in for the game winning TD.

Beer:  Can't remember name or brewery...too much to drink that day, but it was a northern Michigan craft brewer who released some brew to a few Madison, WI stores.   Need to track this info down for future drinking pleasure.

Tailgate:   Wings.  Hot.

UM-'Bama:  Man-cave environment with family.

So long, OT.   It's been fun.

Summer Memory? my dog getting healthy again

 Best future play? Denard scoring a winning TD to  beat ND in the last 30 seconds for a 3rd time would be sweet. (450+ yards again would be awesome too)

New beer? - Goose Island Marisol, great flavors with a lot going on

Tailgate food? - I make a mean chicken chili

And a week from Yesterday I'll be in Dallas. Can't wait

My ideal play.

Denard breaks a 90-yard scramble as the clock strikes 0:00 in the 4th against USC for Michigan to win the National Championship game 24-21.  A little far-fecthed.  Maybe. But it'd be awesome.

Best summer memory: Going to see the Avett Brothers with my girlfriend up at a little amphitheater in Virginia right after we'd gotten back together.

Best new beer? I don't know if it's new, but if we're counting "new to me," then Shotgun Betty by Lonerider Brewing.

(nevermind...figured it out)

The United States landing on Mars, again.  Even if we aren't as dominant in the economic or political realms anymore, at least we can meet the little green men first.

Running the ball between the tackles effectively.  I want to see our line simply beat the man across from them.

Druery Orachard White, I believe it was from somewhere on the left coast.

Hamburgers and kielbasa.  Onions on the kielbasa, with tomato, lettuce, and onion on the hamburger.  Medium rare.

Naples, Florida on a late summer vacation.  I will be planting myself at a sportsbar and only standing for the national anthem in the following hours.
