OT: Larry Munson and The Hobnailed Boot
Embed with video for those that want to see the play (and the lead up)...
is on my list of must watch rivalry games. Back then the teams were on pretty even footing, UGA's won 4 in row through Tennessee's rut the last few years.
That was one of only 2 losses that UT team had that year. The other was their upset loss to LSU in the SEC title game which sent a top 5 Tennesee team all the way down to the Citrus Bowl where they smacked Michigan around.
Tenn had beaten Florida 2 weeks before the SEC title game, but it was Florida that went to the Orange Bowl in the BCS instead of Tennessee. If I remember correctly Michigan was the 2nd best team from a very weak Big Ten that year. Michigan's 3rd trip in four years to the Citrus Bowl. This was one of the most lopsided matchups in bowl history imo.
"...and some stupid mircale could still happen."
I want someone from an ABC / ESPN crew to say that some day, as well as the remark about spending one's last timeout like "gold bullion". There is definitely some inspiration they could glean from this. That was a pretty cool lead-up and a great call though.
Edit: ShadowStorm33 beat me to it. Enjoy this gif instead.
OMG. F*CK. That got outta hand...
The call was good too.
lack of water motion from these supposedly high winds, there was little to no wind, meaning this video is fake. I give it 5 fakes out of 5
Nope. During early morning hours, land cools off faster than the ocean due to differences in their respective heat capacity. If land cools to a temperature below that of the adjacent water surface temperature, then the pressure over the water will be locally lower than that of the land. This sets up a land breeze which opposes the sea breeze, so long as the surface wind pattern isn't significantly stronger. It sets up a scenario where water remains relatively calm while winds can be gusty aloft.
Going to go hit my head on a concrete wall to correct this.
Could an announcer say that now and not get fired?
are covering? Sure.
I guess I am getting up there in age but the only way I'd find his comments offensive is if I was rooting for the other team.
"We just crushed their face!"
