OT- Kwame guilty on 24 counts
Finally the city did something right. It just stinks that the city loses either way...Kwame goes to jail and they will never see the money that he owes.
Oh well, I'm happy his smug ass is going to jail for hopefully a solid 15 years.

I thought we could not discuss politics on this blog!!

His dad came away relatively unscathed. It will be interesting to see what magic Kwame's lawyers will be able to work from here on out. Hopefully nothing too great, he deserves some long sentences.

Yeah, I saw that and responded a couple minutes ago. Thanks.

Run, or ruin? Ha! I guess it depends on your perspective. I just hope they get that city straightened out.

Oh good, snarky racial politics. I'm setting the over/under at 60 posts for when this thread gets locked or removed.

such as the OP get upvoted on here. People just can't resist posting it, and can't resist downvoting it

OP probably thought we all feel the same way about this.... but I can say for sure we don't.

this guy must have a different opinion, which is why he posted that. but even if you want him to share his opinoin, he shouldn't, because NO POLITICS PEOPLE WTF
March 11th, 2013 at 11:50 AM ^
"Kwame Kilpatrick guilty" is not politics, it is news, and the verdict of the trial. Sure, it can (and just might) be a foray into politics, but it's not inherently political.
March 11th, 2013 at 12:09 PM ^
Unless someone chooses to inject politics, the post itself is apolitical. Chance of no one injecting politics - slim to none, and I saw Slim packing to leave.

For someone that lived in Michigan during the Kwame era, but has been out of state for the last 7 years -
Did someone within Kwame's inner circle rat him out to avoid doing time, or was he the dumbest public figure to ever live? I can't see it being anything inbetween. Thanks.
March 11th, 2013 at 11:40 AM ^
I think he overstimated his intelligence, that he thought he was too smart to get caught.
March 11th, 2013 at 11:44 AM ^
Kwame is like the King of all Douches.
March 11th, 2013 at 11:55 AM ^
Do we like him now?? My understanding is that he has cost the city millions? Did not mean to "troll"....
March 11th, 2013 at 11:45 AM ^
Maybe there's at least a tiny, little, twinkling bit of justice in he universe.
March 11th, 2013 at 11:48 AM ^
Maximum sentences of 20 years for the more severe charges like racketeering, maximum of 10 for the lesser charges of extortion, etc. He was fould guilty on 24 of 30 counts, so I'd like to think he'll be going away for awhile.

but his self righteous indignation at being charged for them. He is a piss poor example of a politician, a public servant, and a human being.

...they need to start locking up some of the fucker in Washington & Brussels. Mayor of Detroit is just too easy of a target. Bit like busting Martha Stewart while Wall St runs amok and nobody there does jail time.
So, yeah, I'll say it; Free Kwame!
March 11th, 2013 at 12:14 PM ^
So because other political figures are criminals and not caught Kwame should go free? Have you followed this case at all?
March 11th, 2013 at 12:19 PM ^
I am a political junkie outside of mgoblog, but comeon, there is one goddamn rule on this site. It shouldn't be too hard to follow.
March 11th, 2013 at 12:21 PM ^
Detroit's got enough problems, they don't need this idiot damaging it any further
March 11th, 2013 at 12:27 PM ^
I'm glad someone else posted this: It is the OT season, and Detroit news is inherently relevant to UofM. I've been following this from a distance, and am glad to see justice served.
I'm curious about something tangential: what do you think will happen with Detroit? Will an emergency manager be appointed, and will they be able to right the ship? It seems like a horrible mess, with too many entitled civil servants.
Living in the Chicago area, we have our own problems, with incredibly underfunded teacher pension funds and huge amounts of debt state wide. There are no easy solutions, and the remedy is painful but necessary. The problem here is that politicians always want to avoid pain now, increasing the cost down the road. Eventually, that doesn't work as a strategy. I suspect too much of the same has happened in Detroit.
