OT - Kobe Bryant: Dahntay Jones ' Jalen Rose'd Me'

With the Lakers trailing by two points in the final seconds, Bryant rose up for a potential game-tying, fadeaway jumper from the corner. In a double blow for the Lakers, the shot bounced off the rim and then Bryant came down on defender Dahntay Jones, rolling his ankle on the awkward landing. Bryant didn't think it was merely bad luck that Jones got under him on that shot.

"He Jalen Rose'd me," Bryant told reporters after the game, alluding to a similar play in the 2000 NBA Finals that sidelined him with a sprained ankle.

Kobe was not accused of simply knocking up the Colorado cleaning lady.  He was accused (with substantial corroborating evidence) of raping the young woman.  (I don't think he impregnated her.)  Kobe, in my mind, admitted as much when he said in his public statement:

Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.

I understand the case was not ironclad, but holy shite: "I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter"?!?  Uhm, it seems you're not getting how this whole consensual business works Kobe.  The other details of the Eagle, CO case are pretty sordid and IMO make Kobe look like a bad person.

So, it turns out I'm not a fan of Kobe Bryant's and wouldn't really mind if he got Jalen Rose'd (or worse) on numerous occasions.

Did not see this until Friday a.m. - sorry for the late reply.  But it's my understanding that she had vaginal tearing consistent with forced sex (rather than multiple partners), and that her blood was found on Kobe Bryant's underwear.  Furthermore, that blood was not menstrual blood per forensic tests.

Her explanation for having another man's semen in her underwear was that after the rape she had not showered and grabbed a pair of panties from her laundry basket.  That doesn't strike me as unusual behavior for someone who already feels humiliated and is in shock, BTW.

And Kobe's statement ("I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter") is pretty damning.  In the minds of many (including mine) it's an outright admission of nonconsenual sex, i.e., rape.

There is evidence, as you note, that the case is not ironclad.  Rape cases seldom are, and rape cases against multimillionaires with access to aggressive counsel going up against housekeepers are more difficult than most.  But the blood/vaginal trauma in particular is damning evidence, especially when paired with her complaint and Kobe's oblique admission that she did not consent to sex.

Kobe may be a cold-blooded egotist who wouldn't even need a Sorting Hat to get placed in House Slytherin, but his gripe isn't without precedent - Dahntay (seriously, who spells "Dante" like that?) Jones did deliberately and flagrantly trip Kobe in the 2009 Western Conference Finals so that incident was probably foremost in Kobe's mind.

The fact that he has played dirty before doesn't prove that this play is dirty.  That's terrible logic.

Also, find a less annoying player to be a fan of.  Kobe's a bitch.

Kobe, you got hurt.  It happens in sports.  Take it like a man or retire.  But don't bitch about a rolled ankle.

He was asked his opinion on the play and he gave it. Hell the league even came out today and said it should've been called a foul

He sure seemed nonchalant after his dirty flailing while trying to draw a foul...which broke Manu Ginobli's nose. Haven't seen him do the flail lately, but it was so obvious that Adrian Wojnarowski (sp!?) wrote an article entitled "Kobe, the cheap-shot artist."

Can't sympathize with him one bit...

He doesn't have to retire because he can just go to Germany and have that operation done again.
