OT - kid friendly bar/restaurants in Chicago for the game on Saturday

Submitted by Wendyk5 on

I want to watch the game with other Michigan fans on Saturday, and I know of many Michigan bars in Chicago, but I'll have my 9 year old son with me. Does anyone know of any Michigan bar/restaurants that would be ok with a kid? Much appreciated.

Not sure if you're definitely planning to be in Chicago, but if you're still in Evanston, the Firehouse on Chicago just south of Main has a bunch of tvs and the upstairs has pool tables and video games, etc. I'd take my 8 yr old son there, but we're actually heading to the Shedd with his Adventure Guides buddies and dads for the day. And, yes, the other UM dads agreed it was a better plan than watching the game together - better from a (positive) parent-son bonding point-of-view, at least...

The official list of "Michigan" bars are as follows:

1. Duffy's
2. Moe's Cantina
3. RockIt

There is another one in the suburbs, but is probably further than you want to travvel.

Duffy's is an obvious no because they are pretty much a frat bar - your kid will probably be asked if he rushed Beta at least ten times.

Moe's and RockIt are decent bars with good food and have more sit down places. RockIt was pretty empty when I got there and it started to get fuller as the day went on. Moe's I think would also be okay but it's in the middle of Wriggleyville, so there's a good chance you'll be surrounded by recent college grads who are drunk.

If I had to pick one, I'd say RockIt would be your best bet if you are looking for a specific Michigan bar. However, I've never seen a kid there before so you are better off calling ahead of time to see if they allow it. RockIt is also the priciest of the three.

I agree the Dave and Busters/ESPN Zone would be good places for a kid because if he ever gets bored, then there are other things to do. Also, knowing the game on Saturday, you might need a distraction or two as well. HOwever, as mentioned before, they'll show the game, but aren't really Michigan bars, so you'll get the belligerent OSU fans there too (and really, are there any other kind of OSU fans).

Hope this helps.

I've been to Moe's for 3 of the last four games, and it's been pretty empty since the Penn State game. There have been small children (including infants) there the last couple of times. I'd say that's probably a good bet, but it is Ohio State week so I can't guarantee anything.
