Should Jim Caldwell wind up getting the #Lions HC job, don't be surprised to see him look to add Jim Tressel to his offensive staff.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
Just when you think the Lions cannot get even worse they go ahead and lower the bar some more.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:40 PM ^
Cripes!
Is Lloyd Carr available?
January 13th, 2014 at 10:25 PM ^
on sweater vests.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:24 PM ^
Urbz!!!!!
January 13th, 2014 at 8:28 PM ^
How are we now down to Caldwell supposedly. I am shattered.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:38 PM ^
Baltimore was 29 of 32 in scoring this year. Bottom five in the league. Only the Lions.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:30 PM ^
We have been disappointing, to say the least, for a long time. Now we have a the added stigma that once you get shit canned here, you don't get a chance to be a HC in the league again.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:34 PM ^
Maybe it's just time to dig a really big hole and bury the Lions in a time capsule. In 75-80 years people can dig them up and be able to get a glimpse of one of the greatest forms of torture in human sport.

A baffoon. He fits right in with the Mornhinwegs, Marinellis, and Rogers.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:37 PM ^
Reports now that Caldwell has been offered the job and the rumor posted above might be true. Jim Tressel just said he wants to work in the NFL. Caldwell is a good friend of Tressel and rumors are gaining traction that Caldwell will bring in Jim Tressel for offense.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
I'm at work on my phone. Can't post any, just google it real fast. It comes up at the top.
January 13th, 2014 at 10:09 PM ^
Caldwell I might be able to accept. Tressel there is no way.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:39 PM ^
I'd hit that.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:42 PM ^
This franchise is doomed
January 13th, 2014 at 8:55 PM ^
He was not good with a qb because he never drafted one to be a starter. Completley ignored the oline and only got where he did because of Denny Greens drafting. We got worse every year and that was because he didnt draft well and was very bland with a bad offense.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:56 PM ^
If Jim Tressel winds up as a coach in Detroit than I'm done. Serious. All my Lions stuff goes to Goodwill and I'm switching to the 49ers.
January 13th, 2014 at 10:54 PM ^
Who cares if we win some games? You realize Michigans most revered coach is a former OSU assistant? One of the best players for the lions in the last 20 years on Spielman is an OSU player?
January 14th, 2014 at 1:22 AM ^
Yeah. I don't get it. Jim Tressel is a good football coach. I know, he's a lying, no good, dirty, rotten, cheating bastard, but he's still a good football coach. I'd take him in some capacity for any non-University of Michigan related football team.
January 14th, 2014 at 2:21 AM ^
Huge difference between Tressel, who personally contributed about as much as anyone to the laughingstock that the NCAA is today, and Spielman, who happened to play at a rival.
I wouldn't root for the Lions if they hired Tressel either.
January 13th, 2014 at 8:58 PM ^
Holy shit where's the tylenol?
I thought the lions were actually comitted to winning for once. I guess I was wrong. I'm done rooting for them. I'll watch them, but I'm indifferent about them. I refuse to ever buy a ticket to sit in that factory of sadness.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:01 PM ^
If the lions missed on wisenhunt that they would have lucked into going after tony dungy HARD. Alas, it is our lot in life and we are made to suffer... With Jim Caldwell.
Btw- I miss Wayne Fontes.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:07 PM ^
While I believe the Lion's organization can be complete bafoons, I am thinking they are holding out for one of the coordinators on the AFC/NFC championship teams. Would make more sense in my opinion. I DO NOT WANT CALDWELL. He inherited Dungy's build, and sunk the ship after Peyton sat the season. Not a proven head coach!
January 13th, 2014 at 9:12 PM ^
We're talking about the Lions.
January 13th, 2014 at 11:42 PM ^
It will be a disaster! Much like the Tampa Bay DC we hired! 0-16 here we come! I just hope Michigan football improves, so I can ignore the Lions once again!
January 14th, 2014 at 12:22 AM ^
Rod wasn't even a DC at Tampa Bay. I think he was the DL coach. The Lions will hire somebody bad because nobody good wants to join the graveyard of coaches.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
To the lions? Ha its only fitting.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Well, how did the Lions screw that up? Never mind. Its the lions.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:37 PM ^
How about Luke Fickell? He's got head coaching experience.
January 13th, 2014 at 9:44 PM ^
Sandusky.
January 13th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
Jack Del Rio as there coach. He will fuck these youngsters up if they disrespect the coaches or the game! He's just what they need. Personally I would go get Shanahan if I were the Lions.
January 13th, 2014 at 10:17 PM ^
If the Lions don't hire Kubiak now, forget the next 3 years....
January 13th, 2014 at 10:25 PM ^
Blues......
January 13th, 2014 at 11:38 PM ^
Yuck, here we go back to 0-16 again. What a disaster!
January 14th, 2014 at 12:15 AM ^
would hire Jim Tressel to coach OFFENSE? Tressel won despite his offense, not because of it. I think his favoite play is to punt.
January 14th, 2014 at 1:23 AM ^
I might be biased but Lions should hire Jon Hoke, DB's coach in Chicago. At least it would help Brady recruit with his bro being a HC in the NFL.
January 14th, 2014 at 2:19 AM ^
Ultimately, though the Lions offered a better front office, a better team, better facilities, and more money, the Titans were able to offer not being the Lions.
January 14th, 2014 at 7:22 AM ^
How do the Lions have a better front office?
January 14th, 2014 at 8:24 AM ^
Both are turrible.
January 14th, 2014 at 6:56 AM ^
Good for him. No man deserves to coach the lions. It's a failure that is inevitable.
January 14th, 2014 at 7:21 AM ^
Whether or not you believe that Whisenhunt was a good choice, this is a huge slap in the face to Mayhew, considering how long he's known Whisenhunt.
It's also a refutation of the notion that the Lions were of course the best NFL job that was available.
"This morning, one of Ford’s planes was scheduled to depart for San Diego at 6:30 a.m. The flight was delayed until noon and again until 12:15 p.m., and is now set to take off at 4 p.m."
LOL SOL. Left at the altar again.
January 14th, 2014 at 8:27 AM ^
Jim Caldwell tells us how ineptly lead this franchise is. The man is incompetent so it's a match made in heaven.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:06 AM ^
There were too many shaky drafts before Xander got here and my feeling was Xander was the one who brought in the talent last year although no one really knows. That being said, it is either the Ford meddling or Mayhew that caused this embarrassment. You can't fire the owner so Mayhew has to take the fall for this. If I was a coach, I wouldn't want to come in to a situation where I could be broomed with the GM. I don't really know what they do now. Taking the time to hire a GM and a Head Coach after the top candidates are gone isn't the optimal situation by any means.
Same fucking Lions.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:17 AM ^
Go Lions!!!
I don't think Caldwell would be too bad. Now if they don't get Caldwell, I think they could be in trouble. They are already in "meh" territory.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
second, third, or maybe fourth choice.
They should never have let the press continue with the idea that Whisenhunt was the guy until it was guaranteed to happen. It's botched and pretty much unfixable at this point.
January 14th, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
This is going to go down as one of the worst hires in their history. The man is not HC or even OC material.
January 14th, 2014 at 12:28 PM ^
Nothing inspires confidence like grabbing a guy from the CFL
Becuase he will groom our franchise QB
January 14th, 2014 at 5:45 PM ^
Apologies for the Freep link. Apparently the Titans offered him a million more a year.
If the Lions really wanted him, this was pretty stupid to let him go over money.
