OT: Keep seeing the word "turmoil" in posts. Really?

Submitted by pdxwolve on

I mean, do we really have turmoil? It seems most of the fan base is shitting itself because it has the perception that Michigan's football program is a rudderless ship. Objectively speaking, however, what has changed?

  1. DB said he was going to evaluate each coach at the conclusion of their seasons, and has stuck to his guns. He didn't hatch this plan two weeks ago, nor has he changed his course.
  2. I don't believe we've lost any recruits because of the alleged turmoil, despite the soft verbals and people supposedly looking around.
  3. I don't have premiums to Scout or Rivals, but I haven't seen anything that says Zettel would have come if the coaching issue was settled.

Seriously, am I missing something? While it would be nice to know (as a fan), I don't really think a lot has changed.

Happy New Year

There hasn't been anything new on the coaching search since at least October, but fools keep posting away.  Let 'em, I say.  I'm sure DB is getting a good chuckle out of all the tinfoil-hatters and fair-weather fans coming out of the woodwork now.

When this program is great again, there will be hell to pay at every level:  media, fans, ex-players, athletic department.  A lot of people cut up really badly to create a mess like this.

I believe that much of this turmoil that is spoke so frequently IS fan induced. You have two VERY passionate sides each spouting their own verison of events and throwing spears at each other, so YES there is turmoil. Now has it affected recruits?? YOUR DARNED RIGHT IT HAS!! Imagine a recruit stumbling onto this board and reading these passionate arguments for each side...the pros and cons...the alleged upcoming holocaust if either side wins...what would you want to do? Would you immerse yourself into this culture that tears itself apart when more stable schools are charging after you?? I think not!! Kids are more inclined these days to let public perception sway their decision making, more than any time in recent history. Plus a stable school with loyal rabid fans that are 100% behind the coach is the place where most would want to showcase their amazing talent to the world, and make their own history! I BLEED maize and blue, and yes it hurts at times to see us, the loyal rabid fans, hurting recruiting just as much as our CC issues. Sigh....

do i feel we have lost recruits because of the delay. No mainly do to the fact there is still a month between "the decision, michigan style" and signing day. we will know where we stand soon. Do I feel allot of the negativity of the fans that are bashing RR and DB might effect recruits more.. umm YEAH!.

I was sitting near the iowa parents and family during the game this year and I couldn't get a name but I heard them talking that their son took an unoffical during the whisky game in 08 and said it was one of the most exciting games they had ever been at but the fact that michigan was down 19 at half and the crowd boo'd them off the field was the biggest turn off and was a big reason their son wasn't as impressed with michigan for the flat out reason the fans were ready to bail with 30 minutes to go. I guess fans are huge part of a kids experience in visits and our fan base is great but some of the reactions are over the top. Point being, this isn't turmoil nor the end of football in AA, We are just making way to big of deal out of this and whatever DB says I will be 100% behind. I'm a Michigan fan not a RR or JH. I just want our boys competing at the top again. thats my wish and about every other MGOBLOGGER.  Happy new year everyone

Yeah well you can't please all of the people all of the time.  My point is that there will always be something that a potential recruit or donor or whomever could get bent out of shape about on a college gameday experience.  Wisconsin 2008 was hardly the first time a home team has ever been booed in the history of sport.  I just wanted to say where I, as a hooligan in the student section on that day, stood in my feelings about Michigan Football at the start of halftime.

I wasn't saying boo'ing has ruined our program. I was kind of going at the fact our fans do have this little tendency of overreacting (CC)  and people notice that and it might be hurting us more than helping, I just feel we need to take a chill pill and lay off the JH will bring us to the promise land and RR is  equal to cooper because nobody on the outside looking in likes hearing this. follow? yes no??

I wonder how the recruit felt about 110,000 people cheering so loudly at the end of the game that your ears were ringing afterwards?

The lesson that should have been learned is just how passionate Michigan's fan base really is.  I was at that game too, and my take was that the displeasure was directed toward the coaches, not the kids.

This bowl game isn't going to make a statement as to whether RR is doing a good job or not.  DB's time spent with the program, players, coaches and staff will inform his decision much more than any input this week.  Honestly if he wants to keep RR he should say it now.  There is no benefit to the program not to do that.  His silence is a sign of ...well...turmoil.  Not to mention the financial benefit of waiting until next year...oops I mentioned it.  Sometimes it is better for leaders to lie in the short term to prevent this sort of CC turmoil this diliberate process creates of itself.

Yes we have lost recruits to this "turmoil".  No I can't prove that.  Tom and Tim and others have said repeatedly that the CC is important to many recruits as are  the lack of wins.

Zettel makes me sad...but I know why.  Some dork of a fan accosts him at a game this season berating him for not committing.  Way to go dork.  Zettel was a Mich fan growing up.  He doesn't feel like Mich is the best place to prepare his game for the NFL.  That is TURMOIL in my book, in my heart.  Double Guh!  I know...he's just one recruit...I'm just not over it yet.

CC may not be the root of this turmoil, but to say there is no turmoil is denial.

The only way to get away from it  is to rise above expectations, to play with heart and beat the snot out of MSU.  If the players believe in this team and school and coach this game would be the time to show it.  That Zettels it...I'm over it now.

Let's Go Blue.

because of Zettel. PSU is the only school with a more uncertain coaching situation than Michigan. There are rumors of JoePa's retirement (or likely forced retirement) and no plausible replacement in sight.

Zettel's comments make absolutely no sense in terms of a coaching situation, he just said the politically correct answer that PSU was the right fit. Who knows his real motivations.

who might come in.  We are talking about playing a completely different style of ball...again.  The offense is executing on a very high level.  We are talking about messing with that big time.

PSU is not going to step outside the Joe Pa style of play regardless of whether Joe Pa coaches or not.  They recruit to the PSU tradition of position that obviously resonated with Zettel.  I don't have insight into Zettel's motivation however.

I also don't have insight into Joe Pa's replacement but I would wager my gold pants and my coveted sportsmanship award if I had any that he is already coaching at PSU.
