OT: Kazoo bars for WC w/USMNT supporters

Submitted by Oberon on

I'm going to be in Kalamazoo for work and was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to watch the game Saturday.  I would prefer a place that's been getting good crowds of soccer savvy USMNT supporters rather than just any sports bar that'll be showing the game.  No offense to the casual or new fan, but watching games with knowledgeable folks is just so much less frustrating...just as it sucks to be surrounded by fratastic, halfway through the 1st quarter arriving "fans" at M games (think visors turned in directions not intended by the manufacturer).  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks.

Wayside. Biggest bar in Michigan (I believe), three levels, tons of TVs. I watched the UM - Purdue game there last year. Me and a group of M fans took over the poker room and made them change all of the TVs to the Michigan game. MSU was playing at the same time and their fans were pretty pissed that we got our own private room to watch the game.

EDIT: I'm not sure how many soccer fans will be there, but seeing as the World Cup tends to be earlier in the day,  I would imagine that most of the people there would be at least somewhat knowledgeable.

Here is a link which shows some pics of the inside of the bar...

Also, I've never watched a game there, but Big Deal's Sports Bar has some World Cup specials.

I watched US-England at Up and Under's at it was a great atmostphere.  It's a lot smaller than Waysides so it was pretty packed with soccer fans.  I've never really liked Wayside, to be fair.

At first I thought this was going to be a post asking for bars with kazoos 'honoring' the vuvuzela... guess that's what I get for not living in Michigan for a while.

I second Up and Under if you want the hooligan-ish crowd. Wayside is alright. I used to like Shakespears. Waldos if you like the smell of bowling alley and in on a Thursday.

for all the replies.  I'm actually orginally from Kazoo, so I'm familiar with all those places.  Where will you mgousers be at?
