OT: Justin Bieber Roast

Submitted by ghostofhoke on
Is anybody watching this?? If you're not, set your DVR for the replay. The Comedy Central roasts are always fun just because it's so rare to see no holds barred comedy but this one is out of control. Martha Stewart took down the house. Holy Crap. Snoop is pretty damn good too.

The perfect excuse for white comedians to show their racist stripes under the guise of comedy.....I dont know. I guess I don't get it. Maybe I'm too old. And I know roasts are supposed to be mean about all involved, but I never understood why these comedians always went with racist jokes, I thought it was supposed to be personal, not general stereotypes. But hey, let's keep calling Shaq a gorilla, cuz you know, that takes a lot creativity. Now....get off my lawn.

All I'm saying is a roast is different than routines. Although I admit, I have not seen every single roast so maybe I'm out of line. But, my take. Someone made the joke where the punchline was something like- it would be like asking Shaq for his favorite poet. Okay, making fun of intelligence, that's roast material. But saying Shaq came to this country in chains? Pounding your chest and making ape noises saying your talking in his native language? Cheap racist jokes. Unoriginal and lame at best. Okay, saying white comedians showing their racist colors was wrong. I should have said white comedians trying to be funny rehashing old racist jokes. In my view, they're just trying to one up the last guy with being over the top crude. And it is interesting you mention Kat. Ask him how he feels about these roasts. Especially the Flavor Flav one.

Of course it's about race. Who told a joke about the white comedian in chains, or the white monkey? Now, if you want to say it wasn't racist until I came along, have at it. But these jokes were most definitely about race. Again, not saying jokes about race are off limits. I've never said that. I'm saying, I don't find jokes for the lowest common denominator all that funny. I like a little more creative wit in my humor. Like whoever said Jeffrey Ross's picture is what people use for the emoji when they have food poisoning. Delightful and mean. Good stuff. Teasing Shaq for making less three pointers than people Biebs has hit with his car, not funny. But not as overly used as black people are monkeys. So at least it was original. That's like, just my opinion.

Saying you don't enjoy lowest commn denominator humor of this kind is totally legitimate. I don't think it's legit to throw out the racist card like your first post did. I happen to believe roasts are by their very nature, fair game for absolutely everything, including racist and homophobic humor. Because all of the victims are right with you on stage and know exactly what they are getting into. There is an explicit permission simply by participating onstage.

complaining about comedians making jokes.

I guess I'm a little old school in that regard.  Nothing should be off limits when it comes to comedy.  Race, ethnicity, religion, politics, war, famine, whatever.  You can either laugh about it, or cry about it.

That was one of the reasons I respected Joan Rivers so much.  She'd tell a joke, the internet would get all SJW butthurt about it and demand an apology, and she'd tell everyone to go fuck themselves.

(you're right though, stale meme is stale.  I'll do better next time)

I just can't wait for the inevitable OD/DUI death of that little twit. Why the U.S. hasnt revoked his visa after he's committed multiplied crimes is beyond me. Guess this again proves that some are above the law.

For my money, these Roasts are the funniest thing on television. I laugh out loud more watching them than anything else. RIP to Greg Geraldo, who was one of the best roasters I've ever heard.
