OT: Junior Seau's mother & Marcellus Wiley reflect on Junior

I know that there's already a thread discussing Seau's death, but it's already quite long and has quieted down, and I believe that everyone should see these two videos.

Junior Seau's mother speaks to the media, and is obviously emotionally distraught.  Amazing that she continually thanks everyone for all their love for Junior when she's just found out such horrible news.

Marcellus Wiley, an ex-teammate and close friend of Junior, was interviewed on ESPN tonight, and it is an absolutely heart-wrenching interview.  He has some great stories about Junior, breaks down throughout the interview, and even reflects on Junior's past car accident and how he and his teammates desperately wanted to help Junior (but Junior never wanted to "bother" his friends).  Marcellus confirms how caring Junior was, and how beloved he was by his teammates and friends.

....Junior Seau was simply a great person. I know he had the Junior Seau Foundation, which is a pretty successful  youth organization, and he was very active in the Samoan community in the San Diego area, I believe. He is also the driver for the "Linebacker U" at USC, I think, so everywhere he went, he was a positive force and has given  back to people.

Those videos were incredibly difficult to watch - I cannot even imagine what they are going through.

There are some ethical questions about whether that interview with his mom should have ever occurred or be online though.

just shows you another example of someone that has a seemingly perfect life: success as a pro athlete, philanthropist and business man. loved by all and always seemingly happy. And yet, that person can still be deeply troubled.

there are suicides that are meant to shock and awe. Almost a revenge thing. Junior couldnt even do that to his family so he did it in a way to preserve a possible showing. Sounds horrible but that says volumes. Even the car crash now likely a suicide attampt was the same. He probably wanted nothing to be found. When people choose how to end their lives, the way they do it speaks volumes about whether its about revenge or hatred ot just genuinely having troubles you feel nobody could understand and you want out without hurting those you love more than needed.
I'll admit to having thought about it at times and how I would do it to keep it as painless as possible because I know Im deeply loved and Junior did as well. So sad.

I think all pro sports leagues and the NCAA should have psychiatrists avaialable all the time. Concussions aside, a lot of these guys come from nothing, are suddenly worshipped by fans everywhere, and when they retire are forgotten. That can take a huge toll on a person's mind, and that is before any sort of injury or head trauma.

Ghosts are scary.

This may sound a bit callous, but if a person genuinely can't handle the normal, expected path of progressing through their chosen field, maybe they should swallow a bullet.

Aging is natural. By the time a person retires, they should have fully come to grips with that fact.

So often you see these "associates" give statements that are a chance to get on tv, and you never feel like they feel as bad as their "tweets" make it out to be, but you could tell Marcus was sincere, and hurting.

And saw him mom later on the news...and man...there is no greater curse than burying your own child. It's hard enough to have a parent pass on. It shouldn't be the other way around.
