OT: The Journey of the Ole Miss Goalposts
One ends up in a student's apartment. Student posts picture on Twitter, Ole Miss Athletic Director says to save him a piece and let him know if they need help cutting it up safely. This Ross Bjork dude for AD?

Did anyone follow the journey of the Rutgers goalposts?

It's quite possibly, although if the traffic wasn't bad on I-287, I would think they could have even made it to Perth Amboy by now. The big question is this - how to get them across the Kill Van Kull and into Bayonne once they get across Staten Island? Perhaps the scrapyard makes more sense after all.

Seeing those being taken down was sad on so many levels.

They didn't really tear down the goalposts for beating a 2-4 Michigan team did they?
This is worse than ultimate frisbee where everyone treats my team like we're six Mario Manninghams and gloats proportionally.

Here is a better look at the scene on the field following Michigan's loss to Rutgers last night pic.twitter.com/kkJgiSWZJ2

Actually, the events staff people folded down the goalposts as soon as the game was over and people were heading for the field. They're on a hinge at grass level.

When I saw people start rushing the field I actually thought it was hilarious. A game Rutgers was favored in, Michigan is an absolute trainwreck right now, and they rush the field. They might've rushed the field even if they lost.

Not to be snarky but why do people hate so much when fans rush the field?
We got a lot of hate in 2011 when we beat OSU but it was a win that sealed up a BCS spot and the first win over the big rival in a number of years.
This was their first Big Ten win and came against a program that at least has a national name.
If they want to be excited let them have their moment.

Bjork for AD!

after an uninspiring win against an uninspiring opponent my drunken dorm floor and I charged the field (along with a couple hundred other semi-confused but energetic fans) and tore down 1 set of goal posts. We dragged it 2 miles back to the dorm and had it duct-taped to our wall for a week before the campus police removed it. /coolstorybro

I think back to one night in 2005 after Michigan nearly beat Illinois when there was a giant stack of ripped-up Michigan Stadium bleachers sitting outside the stadium. Like a few other enterprising folks, I grabbed a 6-foot section and started walking briskly, taking every side street and back alley in a foot of snow from Crisler to East Quad.
The next morning, the Daily crime notes described a rash of seat-related arrests, because the Athletic Department apparently didn't see the discarded, half-broken bleachers as trash. I hid that bleacher under my bed, and snuck it back to my parents' house under the cover of night for fear of being arrested.
There's a way of handling this kind of stuff, and Ole Miss knows how to do it right. Hope those kids enjoy their souveniers.

It's an 8 seat piece that they removed when the seats were replaced. My neighbor got it for me by just driving in there some morning (when all the construction was going on). It's worth saving. If you pull up the fiberglass cover, you can see the original redwood bench. I plan to build it into a rec room some day soon. I never understood why the AD didn't sell those off as a fundraiser.

This also seems obligatory:
I mean, how Minnesota is it that an opposing team's fans could rush the field, tear down the goalposts, and run them up the stairs and out of the dome?
Also see: Northwestern "laking the posts."

On one hand
- Sad. As noted, their opponent was a 2-3 team and an underdog.
- Tearing down the goal posts used to mean something
On the other hand:
- This is their first win in the B1G.
- Last year, their only win over a decent team was Arkansas. In September.
- Their last good season was in 2006. That was a long time ago. Like Lloyd Carr Rose Bowl long ago.
- Their students are behind the program, even after some seriously bad PR involving coaches and the AD.
