OT: Jordan Wynn Poinsettia

Submitted by WAMichFan on
Utah's freshman QB Jordan Wynn looked very composed yesterday overcoming an early pick-six and a 14-0 deficit to rally his team past Cal in the Poinsettia Bowl. Shows what a three-star athlete can do. Check out his ranking and photos http://purdue.scout.com/a.z?s=180&p=8&c=1&nid=3128960, some of which make him look like an eighth grader. You just know a few Michigan fans would have cried about a recruit like this, a la Vinopal and C. Johnson. On another note, why is the Pac-10 looking wholly incapable of repeating last year's bowl domination? And what's up with Utah schools, particularly Utah, winning every one of their post-season games this decade? Must be Joseph Smith, his magic hat, and the power of holy underwear. No offense to the LDS. I don't want any of those hit men in Pulp Fiction suits knocking on my door just because I said a few things on the MGoBoard. Love me some Mormons. Truly.

Utah gets most of its players from CA and TX. Only a small minority of the team is Mormon. Most LDS recruits end up at BYU. I don't know if they mentioned it last night, but Jordan Wynn's Oceanside HS teams actually knocked Tate Forcier's Scripps Ranch teams out of the California State Playoffs during their junior and senior years. Oceanside beat Scripps Ranch 42-14 in 2007 and 49-14 in 2008.

When I saw the topic, I thought some dude with the last name "Poinsettia" was announcing the birth of his child on the message board.

I like the kid. It helpd I was on Utah last night!! He arrived at Utah weighin 153 lbs. He's put on 40-50 lbs since spring ball and he's now bulkier than Forcier, I believe. Yes, it shows what a low rated recruit can do, but success was born from off the field work outs first and foremost.

When I see another "Hey, a THREE STAR made a great play last night! Vinopal for Heisman! Drew Dileo RULEZ!" But then I settle down and just realize that so many people think anomalies mean everything in the world. So I have another drink, a smoke, and watch another Seinfeld rerun.

I watched both Wynn and Forcier last year as seniors... Wynn made Tate look big a year ago. He has put on some weight, though I'm not sure about the 40-50 lbs. Wynn was a very good high school QB and although his team beat Tate's two years in a row in the playoffs, there really was no comparison - Tate was far superior as a QB. However, Wynn played on a team that had better talent all around on both sides of the ball. Oceanside has been a perennial state power forever (Junior Seau among most notable alums) and in fact won another state championship going undefeated a week ago. Clearly, Wynn has developed nicely in a very short time and hopefully we'll see the same with Tate going into his Sophomore year!
