OT - Jordan Jefferson has 49 pairs of shoes seized by police

Submitted by white_pony_rocks on

wonder where he got the money to buy 49 pairs of shoes?  if those shoes were all around $80, which isn't unreasonable to think, then he spent close to $4000 on shoes.  and its probably safe to assume he has a fair amount of dress shoes (maybe, not sure if there is any place to wear dress shoes in baton rouge)  i doubt the NCAA will read this and look into it though.

edit: here is the link, they are looking for evidence of the fight he was in

+300 if I could.  Misuse of "begging the question" is rampant, but I never have the balls to point it out.

EDIT - A bonus imaginary +100 to M Thrax below.  The trepidation associated with correcting others' usage/grammar (especially when (A) mine's far from perfect, and (B) James B A seems like a good egg) is generally a good thing, but this recurring error begs to be underscored.

For the record, I also give a f*ck about an Oxford comma, but try to keep such feelings to myself.

"Begs the question" is used so often that it now has the meaning everyone who uses it the "wrong" way intends.  As in the use of "myriad" as a noun, or myriad "slang" expressions that become "correct" every year, the grammar should be corrected to reflect common use.

After all, the purpose of language IS communication.  "Begs the question" communicates what the user intends as well as "raises" the question.

but this is the english language. You can't simply say that because someone used a phrase in a certain context that it can't be used in another context if the definitions of the words are suited. By definition, these three words can be used to describe what the person intends. Whether someone else used those words to mean something different previously is irrelevant.

This is my first time criticizing somebpdy's grammar/phraseology...so I am a little nervous, but as a UM philosophy grad I must point out that you are misusing the phrase "beg the question".  Here is a link that explains it much better than I can.

Now be sure to pass that on everytime somebody incorrectly uses "beg the question".  They will love you for it.  My boss really loved it when I corrected him (after hearing him make the same mistake about 400 times in the course of 3 years).

I'm a 21 year old male. I have:

2 pairs of sperry's

2 pairs of flip flops

1 pair of tennis/court shoes

2 pairs of running shoes

1 pair of winter boots

That's 8. I think I own about an average amount. Then again I didn't grow up in a culture where owning tons of fly shoes makes you cool, which could be the case with Jefferson.

I'd assume some of the shoes are legally provided via LSU. Don't players get some gear? Shoes, t-shirts, sweats, etc?

I mean, 49 is insane, but he'd have 11 from LSU if they gave him a new pair for the weight room each semester (summers included).

I cant believe I had to scroll this far down the page to find someone who understands big time college football. Nike give these plays A CRAP-TON of free gear, add in 10 pairs of $5 flip flops (its is Baton Rouge after all) and it all adds up. The EVERYONECHEATS MOAR CHEATZ PLZ  thing is getting old...

the article only said athletic shoes, flip flops and dress shoes are not athletic shoes.  also, they may have only taken some of his athletic shoes, say if the witness said he was wearing white one or red ones.  he obviously has over 50 pairs, i would say he probably has closer to 70
