but Crawford (XAV) and Clemente (KSU) are putting on a show right now. They are both ridiculously good.

This is March. This is Madness.

Looks like he signed at Indiana, then jumped ship to Xavier. He was only offered by IU, North Carolina State, Tennessee, and Xavier. How did we ever let kids like this go elsewhere?

Straight up dirty shot to send it to double OT!

I thought I heard they also have a kid from Frankenmuth...what are we doing wrong?
Brad Redford our shooting guard who has a nasty three point shot. It's not necessarily what we're doing wrong but what Xavier is doing right (3 Sweet 16s in a row now). Beilein is a cutting-edge recruiter though. Making the NCAA tournament will be a good start next year (pull in some more recruits), but Xavier is a consistently good basketball school that does well in the dance (2 Elite Eights in the last 10 years). We don't have football here.

Looks like old number 41 in the '89 tournament.

Not that we couldn't use a guy who can hit 3's from the lockerroom...but how did MSU let him get out of state too? How many phone calls DID he get from Indiana??

Literally every time a player from the State of Michigan turns out to be a good player AND plays for a school outside of Michigan, someone posts, "How did we ever let this guy get away?"
To the extent that one is really just curious about the back story, fine. I don't see the intrigue, but fine.
To the extent it is meant to imply that our coaches were just stupid for not recruiting some obviously great prospect, or lazy or inept... we get it already.
NOTE: Not accusing anyone in this thread in particular of doing that.

Crawford went to IU recruited by Sampson.
And Amaker never offered Redford.

Actually played against UK when his brother was still there in an interesting matchup.
Then they both transferred (in Joe's case, x2)... runs in the family? Guess given coaching situations, etc, you can't really fully blame either... but they seem to have a bit of a tendency to jump ship as a family.
played 4 years at Kentucky, he never transferred. He thought about it after his freshman year but decided against it. You're probably thinking of Alex Legion. And Jordan Crawford transferred after IU got blasted by the NCAA and everyone bailed, can't really blame the kid.
Mixed up Joe's transfer threat with Legion's actual actions.
Thanks for catching the slip-up; probably had one too many watching the tourney last night...
I am completely fine with him staying at Xavier.
for Joe or Jordan. I worked with their mom, Sylvia. They both wanted schools with major basketball programs, hence Kentucky and Indiana.

Is that why Joe was down to Michigan and Kentucky? And was a Michigan verbal at one point?
He wasnt that huge of a prospect. A solid three star.
He had a nice freshmen season at IU during 2007-08, his best game was the aforementioned game vs UK when he played his brother. You could see glimpses of this, but it was Armon Bassett, who looked like the clutch guy, willing to take the shot with everything on the line for future IU teams, but they would have made a helluva backcourt in Bloomington these last couple of years.
During the Sampson mess, Crawford actually stuck around. He didnt transfer until June. He was one of 2 players--the other was Eli Holman who is now at UD--that left on their own accord in the wake of the debacle. The rest, like Bassett, got kicked off the club because they basically stopped going to school, among other things, after the Sampson dismissal.
It was a mess and its too bad the school didnt handle it better.
Also: I dont think the NCAA came down hard on IU. Not at all. It was kind of a self imposed implosion. I dont even know if the NCAA even levied a postseason ban. I do know when the NCAA ruled, they basically were like, you just imploded your whole program and got rid of the dirty coach, you're ok in our book.
