As a fellow Browns fan, I want Manziel to fail without any on-field antics. I can't stand him and hate the fact that Cleveland drafted him. I'm a believer in Hoyer and hope the best for him this season.

in his ear constantly telling him to stay out of trouble, that cameras are always on him, what the NFL fines, etc. and yet he does this. Yes it could be youth but the picture of the bill rolled up in the bathroom, constant partying and other issues strongly imply someone out of control.
I hope he gets his act together and has a great career. I'm not optimistic at this point. ven less so with a team that has had other discipline problems recently.

I watched about 2 quarters of this game and the Redskins blitzed Manziel quite a bit. He doesn't seem patient or comfortable yet and tends to take off running most of the time. I think really good NFL defenses are going to give him a beating and I don't think he is going to have much fun this season. The bad thing for the Browns is that Brian Hoyer doesn't look great either, so Manziel may be their best option from the get go.

At least he hasn't stooped to adopting Michigan culture (ie punching people in the face and facing multiple assault charges) yet. I don't think a Michigan blog is in any position to be calling out lesser character issues in other teams' players right now.

Actually, Manziel is from Texas. He is the one who we are talking about adopting a culture not York. York is being used as the example of Michigan culture precisely because he is from Michigan.

He is still from Michigan, still played for Michigan and still represents Michigan culture.

If you're referring to the state of Michigan, since he grew up there, then the legal process against him for his deeds should be pointed out as the most official way for a society to renounce deeds, rather than accepting them.
That's not to say that there haven't been other members of those two entities, who have perpetrated misdeeds and remained in good standing. However, it seems to me that for every brawler, there are many more Devins and Denards on our team.

Society can officially denounce his deeds, but that doesn't mean it isn't part of the culture. And to your last point, don't you think that could be said of most schools' athletes (ie OSU and MSU)? Even this board has admitted that an MSU athlete, Adrien Payne, seems to be a pretty good guy.

It sucks to see him do this. I have no choice but to hope he succeeds for Cleveland-after Cleveland's awful history since 1999, most fans are putting their faith in Manziel or Hoyer to simply bring us a winning season. Johnny's attitude is an issue, but hopefully he can get it under control and not do..well..things like this. This type of behavior is embarrasing.

New to Northern Virginia, I made the decision to hop on the "most hyped up pre-season game in history" train. Needless to say, I found out even supposively exciting pre-season games are about as entertaining as getting a trancheotomy.
